Book Cruise Shipping in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park

Download or read book Cruise Shipping in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cruise ships are permitted to access a number of cruise ship anchorages in the Marine Park, however at present, the majority of ships only visit Cid Harbour in the Whitsundays and only once or twice per year, typically in the months of January, February and March. In addition, some cruise ships use the anchorages at Cid Harbour and Hardy Reef some 8 to 10 times per year. These visits are usually between March and December. In 1998 there were 12 cruise ships that anchored in the Whitsundays for a total of 16 visits. In 1999 it is expected that there will be 11 cruise ships and 19 visits. For 2000 there are already bookings for 8 cruise ships and 18 visits. A local cruise ship company has operated weekly 3 and 4 night cruises from Cairns for the past 7 years. Other 'expedition' class cruise ships, typically carrying up to 200 passengers, would prefer to use a range of anchorages throughout the Marine Park. There are only a small number of these cruise ships but it is a growing sector of the cruise industry. This type of cruise ship is currently seeking new cruise destinations in the Far Northern Section of the Marine Park.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Time did not exist; or if it did it did not mater. Our world then was both wide and narrow—wide in the immensity of the sea and mountain; narrow in that the boat was very small, and we lived and camped, explored and swam in a little realm of our own making...” This is the fascinating true adventure story of a woman who packed her five children onto a twenty-five-foot boat and explored the coastal waters of British Columbia summer after summer in the 1920s and 1930s. Acting single-handedly as skipper, navigator, engineer and of course, mother, Muriel Wylie Blanchet saw her crew through exciting—and sometimes perilous—encounters with fog; rough seas, cougars, bears and whales, and did so with high spirits and courage. On these pages an independent woman with a deep respect for the native cultures of a region, and a refreshing wonderment about the natural world, comes to life. In The Curve of Time, she has left us with a sensitive and lyrically written account of their journeys and a timeless travel memoir not to be missed.
