Book Microanatomical Aspects for Neurosurgeons and Neuroradiologists

Download or read book Microanatomical Aspects for Neurosurgeons and Neuroradiologists written by Wolfgang Seeger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern diagnostic imaging and operative approaches have witnessed significant improvements in our times. Computerassisted methods are in use in all microsurgical fields. Neuronavigation, novel stereotactic methods, endoscopic procedures, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound and the progress in pre- and intraoperative epilepsy diagnostics must be mentioned in particular in this connection. However, the insights of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology have not become obsolete thereby, on the contrary: such knowledge is imperative and a prerequisite for all neurosurgeons, nowadays more than ever before. Otherwise, excellent modern approaches are liable to fall into discredit if microanatomical aspects are neglected. The goal of this book is two-fold: first, to guide the resident towards a fruitful application of anatomical basics in visualizing and operative techniques. Second, to draw attention to as many anatomical norm variants as possible to forestall complications during surgery. Standard methods, such as the pterional approach, often confront the surgeon with a range of anatomical variants.

Book Standard Variants of the Skull and Brain

Download or read book Standard Variants of the Skull and Brain written by Wolfgang Seeger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author describes in his unique style the anatomical variants of the brain and skull. This atlas is a continuation of his last work on "Neuronavigation and Neuroanatomy". Most anatomical reference volumes show a large number of common and rare variations. This atlas concentrates on well known and little known variants which are especially important for the clinicians, in particular the neurosurgeons and the radiologists. The variants have been grouped after areas of trepanation. The author presents also a number of so far unknown variants gathered from his personal theoretical and clinical experience of 50 years. Exact knowledge of anatomical variations which the surgeon may encounter helps to plan operations and to avoid unexpected complications. Variants of no clinical relevance, even rather common ones, have not been included.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The management of vascular and tumorous lesions of the parasellar region still remains one of the most demanding tasks in neurosurgery. It is only a short time ago that the major concepts of the anatomy of the so-called cavernous sinus were described in detail. Surgical interventions in this region are very complex, they are time-consuming and require an extensive back ground of experience in surgery of the cranial base. Pioneer anatomical studies of the parasellar region done by Taptas, and the daring direct operative approach introduced by Parkinson pro moted the development of modern neuroradiological intervention proce dures, which were initiated by Serbinenko and further refined by Debrun, Vifiuela and others. The technique of the detachable balloon catheter stimulated surgeons to proceed with the direct operative approach to lesions of the parasellar region. Today, it is hard to imagine a successful man agement of vascular pathologies of this region without a complementary use of the two techniques.

Book Microsurgery of Intracranial Tumors

Download or read book Microsurgery of Intracranial Tumors written by Wolfgang Seeger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preoperative Magnetic Resonance Imaging allows now a better analysis of the relationship between intracranial tumors and the surrounding brain tissue. Even very small deepseated tumors can be identified during the operation by intraoperative ultrasound. These technological advances have had a great influence on indications, planning strategies and microsurgical techniques. The author shows the functional anatomy of the brain with the eye and the mind of a microsurgeon and demonstrates well known topographical relationships under the aspect of an utmost gentle operative approach.

Book Keyhole Approaches in Neurosurgery

Download or read book Keyhole Approaches in Neurosurgery written by Axel Perneczky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-18 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technological progress in neurosurgery - preoperative investigation of the exact anatomy of the patient, detailed planning of the procedure, and use of endoscopes and videosurgery – have made approaches for intracranial microsurgical procedures smaller compared to historically standard neurosurgical approaches. Building on the previous works "Endoscopic Anatomy for Neurosurgery" and "Keyhole Concept in Neurosurgery," this book offers a systematic overview of keyhole approaches in the daily work of a neurosurgeon. The approaches, strategies, indications and technical details described here are complemented by anatomical pictures, schemes, and artists’ illustrations, and analyzed with regard to geometric boundaries and the topography of the target structures.

Book Anatomical Basis of Cranial Neurosurgery

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This didactic book clearly and systematically describes the anatomical-surgical fundamentals of cranial neurosurgery, relating them to norm variants, imaging modalities and interdisciplinary aspects. All illustrations, hand drawn in ink by the first author, are simple and self-explanatory. The book reflects the first author’s lifetime experience as an academic neurosurgeon and teacher, as well as the second author’s theoretical and practical knowledge of neurosurgical subspecialties such as epilepsy surgery. In addition to its core audience in neurosurgery, it provides all connected disciplines, in particular neuroradiology, neurology, neuropathology, ENT surgery, maxillofacial surgery and eye surgery, with unique anatomical insights into the neurosurgeon’s perspective.

Book Primary and Secondary Brain Stem Lesions

Download or read book Primary and Secondary Brain Stem Lesions written by György Csecsei and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the first to describe all clinically and experimental relevant aspects of primary and secondary brain stem lesions important to clinicians. It contains a detailed description of the computer-tomographical and morphological changes of the cerebral cisterns in acutely and chronically increased intracranial pressure. The prognostic value of clinical parameters of primary and secondary brain stem lesions is demonstrated. The possibilities of assessing the clinical course by computer-aided evaluation are presented. In addition to that, comprehensive view of morphological, radiological and clinical findings, extensive investigation concerning blink reflex (BR) and auditory evoked brain stem potentials (BAEP) supply highly relevant functional aspects of those lesions. The effects of raised intracranial pressure upon BR, BAEP as well as upon cerebral blood flow and focal flow in different brain areas were studied in animal experiments and reveal new and fascinating conclusions. Based on these investigations, a mathematical model following modern concepts of system analysis was developed. The model includes the intracranial system, autoregulation of cerebral flow (cardiovascular components) and the short-time behaviour of arterial blood pressure regulation.

Book Endoscopic Anatomy of the Third Ventricle

Download or read book Endoscopic Anatomy of the Third Ventricle written by Wolfgang Seeger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-01 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An illustrated atlas of anatomical aspects important for combinations of microsurgical and endoscopic approaches. The basis for Professor Seeger’s renowned drawings has been anatomical preparations, cadaver dissections and intraoperative pictures. The correct proportions are derived by measuring the distances of anatomical landmarks of cranial preparations and from CT and MR Images. A concise text supports the understanding of the anatomical figures. Numerous common anatomical variants are demonstrated with reference to their impact for the surgical technique.
