Book Spectral Decompositions and Analytic Sheaves

Download or read book Spectral Decompositions and Analytic Sheaves written by Jörg Eschmeier and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rapid developments in multivariable spectral theory have led to important and fascinating results which also have applications in other mathematical disciplines. In this book, various concepts from function theory and complex analytic geometry are drawn together to give a new approach to concrete spectral computations and give insights into new developments in the spectral theory of linear operators. Classical results from cohomology theory of Banach algebras, multidimensional spectral theory, and complex analytic geometry have been freshly interpreted using the language of homological algebra. The advantages of this approach are illustrated by a variety of examples, unexpected applications, and conceptually new ideas that should stimulate further research among mathematicians.

Book New Approaches in Spectral Decomposition

Download or read book New Approaches in Spectral Decomposition written by Ridgley Lange and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1992 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aimed at a general mathematical audience, this book provides a careful exposition of developments in the theory of spectral decomposition. Bringing the reader from the basics up to the level of current research in the area at the time of writing, Lange and Wang present an accessible account of the techniques used in the theory and applications of decomposable operators and related classes of operators. The book begins with a discussion of criteria for decomposable and related types of operators, and an analysis that relates and distinguishes among them. Perturbation theory of decomposable and other operators, applications to classical Hilberty space operators, quasisimilarity, and a new class of weakly decomposable operators are also discussed. The book closes with an exposition of some classical theories on invariant subspaces for subdecomposable and hyponormal operators, and a presentation of the parallel spectral theory of commuting systems.

Book A Local Spectral Theory for Closed Operators

Download or read book A Local Spectral Theory for Closed Operators written by Ivan N. Erdelyi and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1985-08 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, which is almost entirely devoted to unbounded operators, gives a unified treatment of the contemporary local spectral theory for unbounded closed operators on a complex Banach space. While the main part of the book is original, necessary background materials provided. There are some completely new topics treated, such as the complete spectral duality theory with the first comprehensive proof of the predual theorem, in two different versions. Also covered are spectral resolvents of various kinds (monotomic, strongly monotonic, almost localized, analytically invariant), and spectral decompositions with respect to the identity. The book concludes with an extensive reference list, including many papers published in the People's Republic of China, here brought to the attention of Western mathematicians for the first time. Pure mathematicians, especially those working in operator theory and functional analysis, will find this book of interest.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an elegant and concise fashion, this book presents the concepts of functional analysis required by students of mathematics and physics. It begins with the basics of normed linear spaces and quickly proceeds to concentrate on Hilbert spaces, specifically the spectral theorem for bounded as well as unbounded operators in separable Hilbert spaces. While the first two chapters are devoted to basic propositions concerning normed vector spaces and Hilbert spaces, the third chapter treats advanced topics which are perhaps not standard in a first course on functional analysis. It begins with the Gelfand theory of commutative Banach algebras, and proceeds to the Gelfand-Naimark theorem on commutative C*-algebras. A discussion of representations of C*-algebras follows, and the final section of this chapter is devoted to the Hahn-Hellinger classification of separable representations of commutative C*-algebras. After this detour into operator algebras, the fourth chapter reverts to more standard operator theory in Hilbert space, dwelling on topics such as the spectral theorem for normal operators, the polar decomposition theorem, and the Fredholm theory for compact operators. A brief introduction to the theory of unbounded operators on Hilbert space is given in the fifth and final chapter. There is a voluminous appendix whose purpose is to fill in possible gaps in the reader's background in various areas such as linear algebra, topology, set theory and measure theory. The book is interspersed with many exercises, and hints are provided for the solutions to the more challenging of these.

Book Spectral Analysis of Differential Operators

Download or read book Spectral Analysis of Differential Operators written by Fedor S. Rofe-Beketov and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first monograph devoted to the Sturm oscillatory theory for infinite systems of differential equations and its relations with the spectral theory. It aims to study a theory of self-adjoint problems for such systems, based on an elegant method of binary relations. Another topic investigated in the book is the behavior of discrete eigenvalues which appear in spectral gaps of the Hill operator and almost periodic SchrAdinger operators due to local perturbations of the potential (e.g., modeling impurities in crystals). The book is based on results that have not been presented in other monographs. The only prerequisites needed to read it are basics of ordinary differential equations and operator theory. It should be accessible to graduate students, though its main topics are of interest to research mathematicians working in functional analysis, differential equations and mathematical physics, as well as to physicists interested in spectral theory of differential operators."

Book Mathematical Analysis and Numerical Methods for Science and Technology

Download or read book Mathematical Analysis and Numerical Methods for Science and Technology written by Robert Dautray and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advent of high-speed computers has made it possible for the first time to calculate values from models accurately and rapidly. Researchers and engineers thus have a crucial means of using numerical results to modify and adapt arguments and experiments along the way. Every facet of technical and industrial activity has been affected by these developments. The objective of the present work is to compile the mathematical knowledge required by researchers in mechanics, physics, engineering, chemistry and other branches of application of mathematics for the theoretical and numerical resolution of physical models on computers. Since the publication in 1924 of the "Methoden der mathematischen Physik" by Courant and Hilbert, there has been no other comprehensive and up-to-date publication presenting the mathematical tools needed in applications of mathematics in directly implementable form.

Book Operators and Function Theory

Download or read book Operators and Function Theory written by S.C. Power and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the modern study of Hilbert space operators there has been an increasingly subtle involvement with analytic function theory. This is evident in the analysis of subnormal operators, Toeplitz operators and Hankel operators, for example. On the other hand the operator theoretic viewpoint of interpolation by analytic functions is a powerful one. There has been significant activity in recent years, within these enriching interactions, and the time seemed right for an overview ot the main lines of development. The Advanced Study Institute 'Operators and Function Theory' in Lancaster, 1984, was devoted to this, and this book contains ex panded versions (and one contraction) of the main lecture prog ramme. These varied articles, by prominent researchers, include, for example, a survey of recent results on subnormal operators, recent work of Soviet mathematicians on Hankel and Toeplitz operators, expositions of the decomposition theory and inter polation theory for Bergman, Besov and Bloch spaces, with applic ations for special operators, the Krein space approach to inter polation problems, •• and much more. It is hoped that these proceedings will bring all this lively mathematics to a wider audience. Sincere thanks are due to the Scientific Committee of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation for the generous support that made the institute possible, and to the London Mathematical Society and the British Council for important additional support. Warm thanks also go to Barry Johnson and the L.M.S. for early guidance, and to my colleague Graham Jameson for much organisational support.

Book Spectral Theory of Hyponormal Operators

Download or read book Spectral Theory of Hyponormal Operators written by Daoxing Xia and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 1983 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spectral analysis of linear operators has always been one of the more active and important fields of operator theory, and of extensive interest to many operator theorists. Its devel opments usually are closely related to certain important problems in contemporary mathematics and physics. In the last 20 years, many new theories and interesting results have been discovered. Now, in this direction, the fields are perhaps wider and deeper than ever. This book is devoted to the study of hyponormal and semi-hyponormal operators. The main results we shall present are those of the author and his collaborators and colleagues, as well as some concerning related topics. To some extent, hyponormal and semi-hyponormal opera tors are "close" to normal ones. Although those two classes of operators contain normal operators as a subclass, what we are interested in are, naturally, nonnormal operators in those classes. With the well-studied normal operators in hand, we cer tainly wish to know the properties of hyponormal and semi-hypo normal operators which resemble those of normal operators. But more important than that, the investigations should be concen trated on the phenomena which only occur in the nonnormal cases.
