Book The Location of Critical Points of Analytic and Harmonic Functions

Download or read book The Location of Critical Points of Analytic and Harmonic Functions written by Joseph Leonard Walsh and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1950-12-31 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with the critical points of analytic and harmonic functions. A critical point of an analytic function means a zero of its derivative, and a critical point of a harmonic function means a point where both partial derivatives vanish. The analytic functions considered are largely polynomials, rational functions, and certain periodic, entire, and meromorphic functions. The harmonic functions considered are largely Green's functions, harmonic measures, and various linear combinations of them. The interest in these functions centers around the approximate location of their critical points. The approximation is in the sense of determining minimal regions in which all the critical points lie or maximal regions in which no critical point lies. Throughout the book the author uses the single method of regarding the critical points as equilibrium points in fields of force due to suitable distribution of matter. The exposition is clear, complete, and well-illustrated with many examples.

Book Composition Operators on Spaces of Analytic Functions

Download or read book Composition Operators on Spaces of Analytic Functions written by Carl C. Cowen Jr. and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-03-04 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of composition operators lies at the interface of analytic function theory and operator theory. Composition Operators on Spaces of Analytic Functions synthesizes the achievements of the past 25 years and brings into focus the broad outlines of the developing theory. It provides a comprehensive introduction to the linear operators of composition with a fixed function acting on a space of analytic functions. This new book both highlights the unifying ideas behind the major theorems and contrasts the differences between results for related spaces. Nine chapters introduce the main analytic techniques needed, Carleson measure and other integral estimates, linear fractional models, and kernel function techniques, and demonstrate their application to problems of boundedness, compactness, spectra, normality, and so on, of composition operators. Intended as a graduate-level textbook, the prerequisites are minimal. Numerous exercises illustrate and extend the theory. For students and non-students alike, the exercises are an integral part of the book. By including the theory for both one and several variables, historical notes, and a comprehensive bibliography, the book leaves the reader well grounded for future research on composition operators and related areas in operator or function theory.

Book excerpt: The past several years have witnessed a striking number of important developments in Complex Analysis. One of the characteristics of these developments has been to bridge the gap existing between the theory of functions of one and of several complex variables. The Special Year in Complex Analysis at the University of Maryland, and these proceedings, were conceived as a forum where these new developments could be presented and where specialists in different areas of complex analysis could exchange ideas. These proceedings contain both surveys of different subjects covered during the year as well as many new results and insights. The manuscripts are accessible not only to specialists but to a broader audience. Among the subjects touched upon are Nevanlinna theory in one and several variables, interpolation problems in Cn, estimations and integral representations of the solutions of the Cauchy-Riemann equations, the complex Monge-Ampère equation, geometric problems in complex analysis in Cn, applications of complex analysis to harmonic analysis, partial differential equations.

This book was released on 1978-08-15 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation covers both the theory and practice of estimating the spectrum of signals in noise using digital data. The theory of describing some of the signal processing concepts for digital data are given and various spectral estimation methods are given. The theory of MEM is described in detail using approaches from estimation theory, communication theory, and statistics. The work was intended to give researchers the theory and practice of practical means of spectral estimation using communications or scientific data. The Maximum Entropy Method by John Parker Burg is explained from what was known in 1974-75. KEY WORDS: Calculus-of-Variations, Data Systems, Noise , Spectrum Analysis, Time Series Analysis, Autocorrelation, Computer Programs, Data Windowing, Ergodic Process, Maximum Entropy Method (MEM, Fourier Transformation, Optimum Order of Estimation, Sampling, Spectral Resolution, Statistical Significance Test, Systems Analysis, Wiener-Khinchine Theorem. From The Smithsonian/NASA Astrophysics Data System -- The practical aspects of spectral analysis are contrasted with the mathematical theory. Treatment is limited to ergodic processes and emphasizes data window and noise effects. The Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) and Maximum Entropy Method (MEM) are covered extensively both in theory and application with FORTRAN programs and many examples being provided. Several of the chapters are tutorial and discuss the important topics of sampling theory and system analysis. Topics on MEM include a complete calculus-of-variations solution, relationship between MEM and the Wiener-Khinchine relations, spectral resolution, and choosing the optimum order of the estimation. Keywords: Data Systems, Noise (Sound), Spectrum Analysis, Time Series Analysis, Autocorrelation, Computer Programs, Ergodic Process, Fourier Transformation, Sampling, Systems Analysis [less]

Book Finite or Infinite Dimensional Complex Analysis and Applications

Download or read book Finite or Infinite Dimensional Complex Analysis and Applications written by Le Hung Son and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is almost no field in Mathematics which does not use Mathe matical Analysis. Computer methods in Applied Mathematics, too, are often based on statements and procedures of Mathematical Analysis. An important part of Mathematical Analysis is Complex Analysis because it has many applications in various branches of Mathematics. Since the field of Complex Analysis and its applications is a focal point in the Vietnamese research programme, the Hanoi University of Technology organized an International Conference on Finite or Infinite Dimensional Complex Analysis and Applications which took place in Hanoi from August 8 - 12, 2001. This conference th was the 9 one in a series of conferences which take place alternately in China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam each year. The first one took place th at Pusan University in Korea in 1993. The preceding 8 conference was th held in Shandong in China in August 2000. The 9 conference of the was the first one which took place above mentioned series of conferences in Vietnam. Present trends in Complex Analysis reflected in the present volume are mainly concentrated in the following four research directions: 1 Value distribution theory (including meromorphic funtions, mero morphic mappings, as well as p-adic functions over fields of finite or zero characteristic) and its applications, 2 Holomorphic functions in several (finitely or infinitely many) com plex variables, 3 Clifford Analysis, i.e., complex methods in higher-dimensional real Euclidian spaces, 4 Generalized analytic functions.
