This book was released on 2013-12-16 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies some of the groundbreaking advances that have been made regarding analytic capacity and its relationship to rectifiability in the decade 1995–2005. The Cauchy transform plays a fundamental role in this area and is accordingly one of the main subjects covered. Another important topic, which may be of independent interest for many analysts, is the so-called non-homogeneous Calderón-Zygmund theory, the development of which has been largely motivated by the problems arising in connection with analytic capacity. The Painlevé problem, which was first posed around 1900, consists in finding a description of the removable singularities for bounded analytic functions in metric and geometric terms. Analytic capacity is a key tool in the study of this problem. In the 1960s Vitushkin conjectured that the removable sets which have finite length coincide with those which are purely unrectifiable. Moreover, because of the applications to the theory of uniform rational approximation, he posed the question as to whether analytic capacity is semiadditive. This work presents full proofs of Vitushkin’s conjecture and of the semiadditivity of analytic capacity, both of which remained open problems until very recently. Other related questions are also discussed, such as the relationship between rectifiability and the existence of principal values for the Cauchy transforms and other singular integrals. The book is largely self-contained and should be accessible for graduate students in analysis, as well as a valuable resource for researchers.

This book was released on 2002-11-26 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a graduate course given by the author at Yale University this book deals with complex analysis (analytic capacity), geometric measure theory (rectifiable and uniformly rectifiable sets) and harmonic analysis (boundedness of singular integral operators on Ahlfors-regular sets). In particular, these notes contain a description of Peter Jones' geometric traveling salesman theorem, the proof of the equivalence between uniform rectifiability and boundedness of the Cauchy operator on Ahlfors-regular sets, the complete proofs of the Denjoy conjecture and the Vitushkin conjecture (for the latter, only the Ahlfors-regular case) and a discussion of X. Tolsa's solution of the Painlevé problem.

Download or read book Linear and Complex Analysis Problem Book 3 written by Victor P. Havin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-12-08 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2-volume-book is an updated, reorganized and considerably enlarged version of the previous edition of the Research Problem Book in Analysis (LNM 1043), a collection familiar to many analysts, that has sparked off much research. This new edition, created in a joint effort by a large team of analysts, is, like its predecessor, a collection of unsolved problems of modern analysis designed as informally written mini-articles, each containing not only a statement of a problem but also historical and metho- dological comments, motivation, conjectures and discussion of possible connections, of plausible approaches as well as a list of references. There are now 342 of these mini- articles, almost twice as many as in the previous edition, despite the fact that a good deal of them have been solved!

Download or read book The Hardy Space H1 with Non doubling Measures and Their Applications written by Dachun Yang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-01-04 with total page 665 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book offers an essential but accessible introduction to the discoveries first made in the 1990s that the doubling condition is superfluous for most results for function spaces and the boundedness of operators. It shows the methods behind these discoveries, their consequences and some of their applications. It also provides detailed and comprehensive arguments, many typical and easy-to-follow examples, and interesting unsolved problems. The theory of the Hardy space is a fundamental tool for Fourier analysis, with applications for and connections to complex analysis, partial differential equations, functional analysis and geometrical analysis. It also extends to settings where the doubling condition of the underlying measures may fail.

This book was released on 2020-09-28 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fix $dgeq 2$, and $sin (d-1,d)$. The authors characterize the non-negative locally finite non-atomic Borel measures $mu $ in $mathbb R^d$ for which the associated $s$-Riesz transform is bounded in $L^2(mu )$ in terms of the Wolff energy. This extends the range of $s$ in which the Mateu-Prat-Verdera characterization of measures with bounded $s$-Riesz transform is known. As an application, the authors give a metric characterization of the removable sets for locally Lipschitz continuous solutions of the fractional Laplacian operator $(-Delta )^alpha /2$, $alpha in (1,2)$, in terms of a well-known capacity from non-linear potential theory. This result contrasts sharply with removability results for Lipschitz harmonic functions.

Download or read book Policy Capacity and Governance written by Xun Wu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-29 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides unique insights into the role of policy capacity in policymaking and policy change, as it is being uncovered at the research frontier in contemporary policy studies. The book is structured into a series of sections on policy capacity in theory and practice, each focusing on a specific aspect of policy capacity and its influence on policy formulation, decision-making, implementation and evaluation. In addition to making a significant contribution to the body of literature on the theoretical approaches to researching the role of capacity in policymaking, it also provides practical examples of the application of these approaches through a variety of national and sectoral case studies. Including contributions from authors working in a wide variety of disciplines, the book demonstrates, across the various topics investigated, many commonalities and consistencies in relation to the study of policy capacity and policy-making. This work has interdisciplinary appeal and will engage scholars in fields ranging from geography to communications, health, social work and political science, amongst others with an interest in public policy.

Download or read book Encyclopaedia of Mathematics written by Michiel Hazewinkel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF MATHEMATICS aims to be a reference work for all parts of mathe matics. It is a translation with updates and editorial comments of the Soviet Mathematical Encyclopaedia published by 'Soviet Encyclopaedia Publishing House' in five volumes in 1977-1985. The annotated translation consists of ten volumes including a special index volume. There are three kinds of articles in this ENCYCLOPAEDIA. First of all there are survey-type articles dealing with the various main directions in mathematics (where a rather fine subdivi sion has been used). The main requirement for these articles has been that they should give a reasonably complete up-to-date account of the current state of affairs in these areas and that they should be maximally accessible. On the whole, these articles should be understandable to mathematics students in their first specialization years, to graduates from other mathematical areas and, depending on the specific subject, to specialists in other domains of science, en gineers and teachers of mathematics. These articles treat their material at a fairly general level and aim to give an idea of the kind of problems, techniques and concepts involved in the area in question. They also contain background and motivation rather than precise statements of precise theorems with detailed definitions and technical details on how to carry out proofs and constructions. The second kind of article, of medium length, contains more detailed concrete problems, results and techniques.

Download or read book A Real Variable Method for the Cauchy Transform and Analytic Capacity written by Takafumi Murai and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research monograph studies the Cauchy transform on curves with the object of formulating a precise estimate of analytic capacity. The note is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is a review of the Calderón commutator. In the second chapter, a real variable method for the Cauchy transform is given using only the rising sun lemma. The final and principal chapter uses the method of the second chapter to compare analytic capacity with integral-geometric quantities. The prerequisites for reading this book are basic knowledge of singular integrals and function theory. It addresses specialists and graduate students in function theory and in fluid dynamics.
