Book Analysis of Water Quality Conditions and Trends for the Long term River Network

Download or read book Analysis of Water Quality Conditions and Trends for the Long term River Network written by Thorsten Hebben and published by Alberta Environment. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past fifty years, major rivers throughout the province of Alberta have been undergoing regular monthly sampling for a wide range of water quality variables. Known as the Long-Term River Network (LTRN), this monitoring program has resulted in an extensive database of water quality information for the Province. Due to the broad temporal coverage and continuity of many of these data, they lend themselves particularly well to statistical trend assessment - a very useful way of examining changes in water quality over time. Where detected, statistically significant trends in various aspects of water quality can be used for several purposes, including the evaluation of human impacts on water quality, the development and assessment of watershed management initiatives, and the prediction of future conditions. The purpose of this report was to provide both a general summary of water quality conditions in the Oldman River and to subject the extensive long-term dataset to a thorough series of trend assessments.--Document.

This book was released on 2009 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this report is to provide both a general overview of water quality conditions in the Athabasca River, in the form of summary statistics and time series graphs for all four Long-Term River Network (LTRN) sites, and more in-depth statistical trend analyses on long-term data for the Athabasca and Old Fort monitoring stations. Sampling actvities on the Athabasca River have frequently examined a wide range of trace organic contaminant (e.g. pesticides, priority pollutants, chlorinated phenolics, PAH). However, due to limited sampling frequency and relatively few detections, most data associated with these trace contaminants are inappropriate for statistical trend assessment. Analysis of these data is limited to basic summary statistics in this report."--Document.

Book Analysis of Water Quality Trends for the Long Term River Network

Download or read book Analysis of Water Quality Trends for the Long Term River Network written by Thorsten Hebben and published by Environmental Monitoring and Evaluation Branch, Alberta Environment. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past thirty to fifty years, major rivers throughout the province of Alberta have been undergoing regular monthly sampling for a wide range of water quality parameters known as the Long-Term River Network (LTRN). The purpose of this report was to assess water quality conditions and trends in the North Saskatchewan River from 1977 to the end of 2002. Two LTRN sites are situated on the North Saskatchewan River. Results of trend assessment on these two sites suggest that a number of variables have undergone significant changes over the years. On the whole, data collected from the North Saskatchewan River reflect good water quality.

Download or read book Opportunities to Improve the U S Geological Survey National Water Quality Assessment Program written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2002-03-05 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) established the National Water Quality Assesment (NAWQA) program in 1985 to assess water quality conditions and trends in representative river basins and aquifers across the United States. With this report, the NRC's Water Science and Technology Board has provided advice to USGS regarding NAWQA five separate times as the program evolved from an unfunded concept to a mature and nationally-recognized program in 2002. This report assesses the program's development and representative accomplishments to date and makes recommendations on opportunities to improve NAWQA as it begins its second decade of nationwide monitoring.
