Book excerpt: This supplementary report to the 2009-10 SLATS report examines clearing within the context of the vegetation management framework. It provides information about why and where clearing under the framework is authorised, but does not seek to analyse clearing which is outside the Acts remit, such as in State forests and national parks, non-woody vegetation and mangroves.

  • Pages : 687 pages

Download or read book Austral Ark written by Adam Stow and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-12-22 with total page 687 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Australia and New Zealand are home to a remarkable and unique assemblage of flora and fauna. Sadly though, by virtue of their long isolation, and a naïve and vulnerable biota, both countries have suffered substantial losses to biodiversity since European contact. Bringing together the contributions of leading conservation biologists, Austral Ark presents the special features and historical context of Austral biota, and explains what is being conserved and why. The threatening processes occurring worldwide are discussed, along with the unique conservation problems faced at regional level. At the same time, the book highlights many examples of conservation success resulting from the innovative solutions that have been developed to safeguard native species and habitats in both New Zealand and Australia. Austral Ark fills an important gap regarding wildlife gains and declines, and how best to take conservation forward to keep this extraordinary area of the world thriving.

Book Valuing Remnant Vegetation in Central Queensland Using Choice Modelling

Download or read book Valuing Remnant Vegetation in Central Queensland Using Choice Modelling written by Russell Blamey and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Desert Uplands region of Central Queensland, many pastoralists are clearing vegetation in order to improve cattle grazing production. A choice modelling study was undertaken to provide estimates of the benefits of retaining remnant vegetation that are appropriate for inclusion in a cost benefit analysis of tighter clearing restrictions. Attributes included in the choice model were reductions in the population size of non-threatened species, the number of endangered species lost to the region, and changes in regional income and employment. A nested logit model was used to model the data in order to avoid violations of the independence of irrelevant alternatives condition. The estimated benefits are reported for several tree clearing policy regimes that are more stringent than those currently applied.

Book Ecological Thresholds for Vegetation Management in Southern Queensland

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Clearing remnant vegetation for agricultural development has lead to habitat loss, fragmentation and the disruption of important ecosystem processes. This project aims to improve the knowledge of ecological thresholds for habitat retention and management in Southern Queensland." -- Page 3.

Book Science Supporting Revision of Accepted Development Vegetation Clearing Code for Managing Regulated Regrowth Vegetation in Queensland

Download or read book Science Supporting Revision of Accepted Development Vegetation Clearing Code for Managing Regulated Regrowth Vegetation in Queensland written by V.J. Neldner and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Queensland Herbarium provided scientific advice to the Department of Natural Resources and Mines and Energy to assist them in revising the Vegetation Management Act (VM Act) Self Assessable Codes (SACs), now re-named Acceptable Development Vegetation Clearing Codes (ADVCCs). This has included ADVCCs for managing thickened (thinning) vegetation and fodder harvesting between January 2016 and January 2018. This document provides brief reviews of the scientific literature and evidence base relied upon in formulating QH response to the consultation draft ADVCC for managing regulated regrowth vegetation.
