Book Analysis of Three fluid Crossflow Heat Exchangers

Download or read book Analysis of Three fluid Crossflow Heat Exchangers written by Noel C. Willis (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The detailed behavior of three-fluid, crossflow heat exchangers has been investigated. The equations governing the two-dimensional temperature distributions of the three fluids have been derived and nondimentionalized. Performance characteristics have been determined for a wide range of operating parameters for single-pass heat exchangers. The performance of two-pass heat exchangers for both cocurrent and countercurrent flow has been studied for selected operating conditions. Results have been presented graphically in terms of the temperature effectiveness of the two outer fluids as functions of heat-exchanger size for sets of fixed operating conditions. Nondimensional operating parameters have been defined which allow an efficient presentation of the large volume of performance data required to represent a practical range of operating conditions. Sample problems are included to illustrate the use of the performance graphs for design applications.

Book excerpt: Explains the mechanisms governing flow-induced vibrations and helps engineers prevent fatigue and fretting-wear damage at the design stage Fatigue or fretting-wear damage in process and plant equipment caused by flow-induced vibration can lead to operational disruptions, lost production, and expensive repairs. Mechanical engineers can help prevent or mitigate these problems during the design phase of high capital cost plants such as nuclear power stations and petroleum refineries by performing thorough flow-induced vibration analysis. Accordingly, it is critical for mechanical engineers to have a firm understanding of the dynamic parameters and the vibration excitation mechanisms that govern flow-induced vibration. Flow-Induced Vibration Handbook for Nuclear and Process Equipment provides the knowledge required to prevent failures due to flow-induced vibration at the design stage. The product of more than 40 years of research and development at the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, this authoritative reference covers all relevant aspects of flow-induced vibration technology, including vibration failures, flow velocity analysis, vibration excitation mechanisms, fluidelastic instability, periodic wake shedding, acoustic resonance, random turbulence, damping mechanisms, and fretting-wear predictions. Each in-depth chapter contains the latest available lab data, a parametric analysis, design guidelines, sample calculations, and a brief review of modelling and theoretical considerations. Written by a group of leading experts in the field, this comprehensive single-volume resource: Helps readers understand and apply techniques for preventing fatigue and fretting-wear damage due to flow-induced vibration at the design stage Covers components including nuclear reactor internals, nuclear fuels, piping systems, and various types of heat exchangers Features examples of vibration-related failures caused by fatigue or fretting-wear in nuclear and process equipment Includes a detailed overview of state-of-the-art flow-induced vibration technology with an emphasis on two-phase flow-induced vibration Covering all relevant aspects of flow-induced vibration technology, Flow-Induced Vibration Handbook for Nuclear and Process Equipment is required reading for professional mechanical engineers and researchers working in the nuclear, petrochemical, aerospace, and process industries, as well as graduate students in mechanical engineering courses on flow-induced vibration.

Book Heat Exchangers

Download or read book Heat Exchangers written by Holger Martin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a text/reference illustrating thermal and hydraulic design of heat exchangers. The book shows how to apply the fundamentals of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics for a systematic analysis of the phenomena in heat exchangers, important to energy effective operation in process plants. Beginning with illustrative examples detailing applications of fundamentals, the text then shows the influence of flow configuration on the performance of heat exchangers. Here the equations to calculate mean temperature difference and efficiency for stirred tank, parallel, counter-and cross flow and their combinations are derived and put together in a new and very compact way. In some cases, short computer programs are given to evaluate more complicated formulas or algorithms. Chapter 3 is comprised of seven fully worked out examples showing application of the fundamentals to thermal and hydraulic design, i.e. sizing of heat exchangers. It includes problems and worked examples and is written in a self study format. The text should be useful to practicing engineers and also graduate students in chemical and mechanical engineering.

Book Three fluid Heat Exchanger Design Theory Counter and Parallel flow

Download or read book Three fluid Heat Exchanger Design Theory Counter and Parallel flow written by Tor Sorlie and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A design theory for two flow arrangements of three-fluid heat exchangers has been developed. The dependent performance of the heat exchanger has been expressed in terms of two dimensionless quantities, termed temperature effectivenesses. The temperature effectivenesses are expressed as functions of five independent dimensionless exchanger variables, three representing operating conditions and two design conditions. This situation contrasts with one dependent and two independent dimensionless parameters for the two-fluid exchanger, a very much less complex problem. Graphs are presented showing functions of the five exchanger variables. The practical application of the design theory is shown in three examples. Insight into the problems arising in designing three-fluid heat exchangers can be achieved by inspection of the temperature effectiveness curves. (Author).

Book Evaluation on Performance of Three fluid and Four fluid Heat Exchangers

Download or read book Evaluation on Performance of Three fluid and Four fluid Heat Exchangers written by Héctor Soriano Alfonso and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to study the effectiveness of multi-fluid type heat exchangers, where more than two fluids are involved at the same time, three-fluid, four-fluid and double two-fluid heat exchangers have been studied using various methods. Using general definition of maximum heat transfer rate, which can be considered as a single definition of Qmax, the single effectiveness of multi-fluid heat exchangers can be developed. The maximum heat transfer rate (Qmax) depends on heat capacity rate of each fluid and theirs initial temperatures. It is found that effectiveness is strongly depended on the variables such as flow arrangement, initial temperature, number of heat transfer unit, and fluid properties as well. The optimum heat exchanger and flow arrangement in all cases is determinate by numerical analysis using and comparing different mathematical methods, like LMTD method, NTU method, Runge-Kutta Method or Cranck Nicholson method. It is seen that the best heat exchanger depends on variables such as ratios of initial medium temperatures, length, and fluid properties as well. In this paper, only plate heat exchangers are studied, leaving apart tubular heat exchangers.
