Book 2009 Petrel Bank Red King Crab Pot Survey

Download or read book 2009 Petrel Bank Red King Crab Pot Survey written by Robert Kerman Gish and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents the methods and results of the 2009 Petrel Bank pot (trap) survey on the distribution and relative abundance of red king crabs Paralithodes camtschaticus in the central Aleutian Islands waters of the Petrel Bank area. The primary purposes of this survey were to provide information needed by fishery managers to consider a fishery opening in the 2010/11 season and to address the need discussed by the North Pacific Fishery Management Council Crab Plan Team (CPT) during their September 2008 meeting for stock assessment data from the Adak red king crab stock. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) conducted the survey aboard the chartered F/V Arctic Fury, a 44.2-m commercial crab-pot-fishing vessel from November 6 to December 5, 2009. Results on the catch and sex-size composition of only the red king crabs encountered during the survey are presented. Most red king crabs captured during the survey occurred in a limited portion of the surveyed area and were predominately larger, matured-sized crabs. Size distribution of captured males provided no expectations for near-term recruitment of legal males. In comparison to results from the same stations fished during the 2006 ADF&G Petrel Bank pot survey, the catch of red king crabs during the 2009 survey occurred in a more limited area and the catch of legal males was lower.

Book Heritage Regimes and the State

Download or read book Heritage Regimes and the State written by Bendix, Regina and published by Universitätsverlag Göttingen. This book was released on 2013-07-02 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happens when UNESCO heritage conventions are ratified by a state? How do UNESCO’s global efforts interact with preexisting local, regional and state efforts to conserve or promote culture? What new institutions emerge to address the mandate? The contributors to this volume focus on the work of translation and interpretation that ensues once heritage conventions are ratified and implemented. With seventeen case studies from Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and China, the volume provides comparative evidence for the divergent heritage regimes generated in states that differ in history and political organization. The cases illustrate how UNESCO’s aspiration to honor and celebrate cultural diversity diversifies itself. The very effort to adopt a global heritage regime forces myriad adaptations to particular state and interstate modalities of building and managing heritage.

Book The Social Life of Poetry

Download or read book The Social Life of Poetry written by C. Green and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-11-23 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Jewish publishers to Appalachian poets, Green s cultural study reveals the role of "Mountain Whites" in American racial history. Part One (1880-1935) explores the networks that created American pluralism, revealing Appalachia s essential role in shaping America s understanding of African Americans, Anglos, Jews, Southerners, and Immigrants. Drawing upon archival research and deft close readings of poems, Part Two (1934-1946) delves into the inner-workings of literary history and shows how diverse alliances used four books of poetry about Appalachia to change America s notion of race, region, and pluralism. Green starts with how Jesse Stuart and the Agrarians defended Southern whiteness, follows how James Still appealed to liberals, shows how Muriel Rukeyser put Appalachia at the center of anti-fascism, and ends with how Don West and the Progressives struggled to form interracial labor unions in the South.

Book Coastal Management in Australia

Download or read book Coastal Management in Australia written by Nick Harvey and published by University of Adelaide Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The coast is one of our most valuable assets but how is it being treated and what is being done to look after it? COASTAL MANAGEMENT IN AUSTRALIA is the first book to provide a comprehensive overview of this important subject. Interesting case studies are used to illustrate human impact on coastal processes as well as demonstrating the global significance of the coast and the international imperative to manage it properly. COASTAL MANAGEMENT IN AUSTRALIA introduces the background to the various coastal management systems operating in Australia and illustrates these with 'real world' examples from the different states and territories. Since this book was first published yet another parliamentary inquiry has been added to some 30 years of national inquiries into coastal management, with further calls for national co-ordination. In addition, the Australian government has focused attention on the potential risks of climate change for the Australian coast. Both authors have national and international coastal expertise; significant academic teaching experience in coastal processes and coastal management; coastal planning and policy skills; and have extensive government expertise in coastal management.
