It represents a valuable resource for any research laboratory using budding yeast as their experimental system in which to identify new yeast gene functions. The chapters are written in a readable style with useful background information, technical tips and specific experimental protocols included as appropriate, enabling both the novice and the experienced yeast researcher to adopt new procedures with confidence. New chapters on: Strain construction; genome-wide two-hybrid approaches; use of microarrays for transcript analysis; real-time analysis of chromosome behaviour and FRET; synthetic gene array technology and protein arrays; chemical genomics and yeast prions; RNA gene analysis and mitochondrial gene function analysis; phylogenetic footprinting; discovering human gene function and predicting yeast gene function

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This diverse collection of research articles is united by the enormous power of modern molecular genetics. Every author accomplished two objectives: (1) making the field and the research described accessible to a large audience and (2) explaining fully the genetic tools and approaches that were used in the research. One fact stands out - the importance of a genetic approach to addressing a problem. I encourage you to read several chapters. You will feel the excitement of the scientists, and you will learn about an area of research with which you may not be familiar. Perhaps most importantly, you will understand the genetic approaches; and you will appreciate their importance to the research.

Book Protein Homeostasis

Download or read book Protein Homeostasis written by Richard I. Morimoto and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proper folding of proteins is crucial for cell function. Chaperones and enzymes that post-translationally modify newly synthesized proteins help ensure that proteins fold correctly, and the unfolded protein response functions as a homeostatic mechanism that removes misfolded proteins when cells are stressed. This book covers the entire spectrum of proteostasis in healthy cells and the diseases that result when control of protein production, protein folding, and protein degradation goes awry.

Book Characterisation of the yeast RNA helicase Prp43

Download or read book Characterisation of the yeast RNA helicase Prp43 written by Annika Heininger and published by Göttingen University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: RNA helicases have many important roles in cell metabolism and are involved in numerous pathways, e.g. translation, pre-mRNA splicing and biogenesis. Interestingly, an increasing number of RNA helicases have been shown to be required for more than one cellular pathway. Therefore, protein cofactors have been suggested to recruit multifunctional RNA helicases to their substrates and regulate their activity. The best characterised family of helicase cofactors are G-patch proteins, which all contain a glycine-riche domain. This work focuses on the characterisation of the yeast RNA helicase Prp43 and its G-patch protein cofactors. Additionally, a new G-patch protein cofactor of Prp43 was identified and characterised. Together, the data suggest that protein cofactors can regulate the distribution and activity of RNA helicases in different pathways.
