Book Petrographic and Physical Characteristics of Utah Coals

Download or read book Petrographic and Physical Characteristics of Utah Coals written by Brigitte P. Hucka and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 1997 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The petrographic database consists of 705 maceral analyses, reflectance measurements, and density and porosity determinations from Utah coal samples. These data were collected by the Utah Geological Survey from 1982 to 1995. Samples were collected from seven of Utah's 22 coal fields. Coal fields sampled are the Book Cliffs (182 samples), Wasatch Plateau (262 samples), Emery (41 samples), Sego (27 samples), Henry Mountains (173 samples), Kaiparowits Plateau (12 samples), and Coalville (four samples). The data are sorted by coal-field names; within each field the analyses are arranged alphabetically by coal-bed name to facilitate comparison. The aim of the database is to provide the industry with information on petrographic properties of Utah coals. In addition, it should help the coal operators and purchasers to determine the best uses for Utah coals.

Book Annual Review and Forecast of Utah Coal Production and Distribution 2006

Download or read book Annual Review and Forecast of Utah Coal Production and Distribution 2006 written by Michael D. Vanden Berg and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 2007-08 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Utah coal production in 2006 increased for the second straight year to 26.1 million short tons, 6.4% higher than 2005’s production total and 20% higher than the 10-year low experienced in 2004. This year’s increase was the result of renewed longwall mining at the Skyline mine and significant production increases at Aberdeen,West Ridge, and SUFCO. In addition, Utah achieved record production in the Book Cliffs coal field, record production in Carbon County, and record production on State lands. In fact, in 2007, coal production on State lands is expected to out-pace federal coal production for the first time in history. Despite this recent surge in production, many coal mine operators are experiencing increasingly difficult mining conditions, resulting in a higher ash product.

This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Utah coal production for 2009 dropped 9.7% to 21.9 million tons, mostly due to the decreased demand as a result of the world-wide economic downturn. In fact, all of Utah coal mines, except the Emery mine, recorded production declines. Data for this report were gathered were gathered directly from coal producers and consumers, and comparisons were made to national data, news and company reports, and data from industry experts.

Book Coking Properties of Selected Utah Coals and Blends

Download or read book Coking Properties of Selected Utah Coals and Blends written by William Samuel Landers and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nin high-volatile bituminous Utah coals were carbonized singly and in blends with low- and medium-volatile bituminous coals. Of the 9 coals, 2 are in commercial use as the base coals in blends that produce industrially acceptable metallurgical coke, while 7 are regarded as weakly coking and are not used commercially in coking blends. The carbonization tests were made in a 10-inch diameter, cylindrical retort, using 50-pound charges.
