Book Analyse avantages couts de la mise en oeuvre de systemes intelligents de transport SIT au Canada rapport sommaire

Download or read book Analyse avantages couts de la mise en oeuvre de systemes intelligents de transport SIT au Canada rapport sommaire written by Jouko Parviainen and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes and presents the rationale for the selection of eight intelligent transportation systems (ITS) that could be implemented in Canada, assessing the benefits and costs of ITS implementation in specific localized urban, interurban, and rural areas. The benefits and costs of these local implementations are then extrapolated to provide estimates at the national level. The ITS systems examined include electronic clearance at inspection stations and border crossings; automated roadside safety inspection; rural traveller information systems; rural vehicle electronic transactions (toll collection, customs clearance); construction zone traffic management and intersection or railway crossing collision avoidance systems for rural areas; a traffic management, operations and control package; a travel and traffic information services package; and a travel demand management system, including differential pricing for road users.

Book Introduction to Sustainable Transports

Download or read book Introduction to Sustainable Transports written by Bernard Favre and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-02-19 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transport systems have to meet the mobility needs of people and commodities on all scales, from the local to the global level. Concerns about the energy, fumes and sound emissions produced, and about the safety, service quality, intelligence and lifecycle of the systems, etc. can all be included in a systemic approach. This approach can contribute to the development of sustainable solutions, for individual vehicles as well as for transport systems. Derived from an approach combining the social and physical sciences, these solutions result from the integration of physical objects, services and organizational processes, which involve several actors. Their harmonious organization contributes to the development of more virtuous transport systems for the future of urban and inter-urban mobility.

Book Intelligent Transportation Systems

Download or read book Intelligent Transportation Systems written by Richard Zavergiu and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The identification, measurement, and allocation of benefits and costs for intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are critical areas of investigation that influence the decision making related to ITS implementation. Traditional methods have concentrated on safety improvements and congestion relief, where time savings and reduction of incidents have generated the bulk of ITS benefits for transportation users. This approach limits the scope of a benefit-cost analysis and an underestimation of ITS benefits. This report develops an alternative approach that identifies four separate beneficiaries of ITS. It proposes a hierarchy of costs and benefits identifying and classifying benefits in relation to relevant costs. This framework will allow policy makers to understand how the financing of ITS deployment could be structured. To demonstrate how such a framework would work in a real-world ITS application, the report includes two case studies: one on border crossing and one on congestion charging.

Book Inland Maritime Waterways Ports

Download or read book Inland Maritime Waterways Ports written by G. Willems and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-02 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inland & Maritime Waterways & Ports: Design, Construction, and Operation covers the proceedings of the technical sessions in the 25th Permanent International Association of Navigation Congress, held in Scotland. This book is organized into two sections encompassing 10 chapters. The first section deals first with means for the protection of banks and bottom waterways against the attack by currents and waves, including those generated by ships. These topics are followed by discussions on methods of increasing waterways capacity and safety; sedimentation reduction and improving and maintaining navigable depths in alluvial channels; integration of ocean-coastal-inland navigation; and improvements of maritime ports and inland terminals. The second section starts with discussions of the developments in the construction of ships, navigational aids, waterways and harbors, traffic management and installations, with particular emphasis on risk analysis and safety criteria regarding transportation, unloading, and storage of liquefied natural and petroleum gases. Other topics covered in this section include economic optimization of the whole dredging cycle; cargo handling systems and equipment; design and construction of port facilities and arrangement of quay platforms; and coastal erosion caused by harbor works and corrective measures. This book will prove useful to design and navigation engineers and researchers.
