Book An Overstress Model for Solid Polymer Deformation Behavior Applied to Nylon 66

Download or read book An Overstress Model for Solid Polymer Deformation Behavior Applied to Nylon 66 written by E. Krempl and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extensive experimental investigations at ambient temperature on commercial Nylon 66, PEI (Polyetherimide) and PEEK (poly(ether ether ketone)) have shown that the overstress model developed for viscoplasticity should be, in principle, capable of modeling for solid polymers the rate-dependent behavior, including creep, relaxation and cyclic motions. The viscoplasticity theory based on overstress was modified accordingly to allow for the modeling of typical solid polymer deformation behavior. Included are nonlinear rate sensitivity, curved unloading, significant strain recovery at zero stress and cyclic softening. The visco plasticity theory based on overstress for polymers (VBOP) is introduced in uniaxial formulation. It is shown that VBOP can be thought of as a modified standard linear solid with overstress-dependent viscosity and nonlinear, hysteretic equilibrium stress evolution. VBOP consists of a flow law that is easily adopted to cases where the strain or the stress is the independent variable. The flow law depends on the overstress, the difference between the stress and the equilibrium stress with the latter being a state variable of VBOP. The growth law of the equilibrium stress in turn contains the kinematic stress and the isotropic or rate-independent stress, two additional state variables of VBOP. The material constants of VBOP are determined for Nylon 66 at room temperature and various tests are simulated by numerically integrating the set of nonlinear differential equations. The simulations include monotonic loading and unloading at various strain rates, repeated relaxation, recovery at zero stress that is dependent on prior strain rate, and cyclic strain-controlled loading. Finally, the stress-controlled loading and unloading are predicted with very good results. The simulations and predictions show that VBOP is competent at modeling the behavior of Nylon 66 and other solid polymers.

Download or read book Time Dependent and Nonlinear Effects in Polymers and Composites written by Richard Allan Schapery and published by ASTM International. This book was released on 2000 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation Improved reliability in commercial and military applications requires improved understanding of and predictive models for the time- dependent and nonlinear mechanical behavior of polymeric composites. The May 1998 American Society for Testing and Materials symposium sought to fuse the efforts in this direction of specialists in polymers and composites; these 18 papers are therefore grouped under the subheadings of polymers and composites. Primary polymer topics are chemical and physical aging, nonlinear viscoelasticity, and viscoplasticity. Composites' issues include: the effect of physical aging on time-dependent behavior, multiaxial nonlinear effects, compressive behavior, nonlinear viscoelasticity and viscoplasticity, failure mechanisms, hygrothermal effects, durability, and accelerated strength testing. Schapery is affiliated with the U. of Texas at Austin, and Sun is at Purdue U. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Conference on Mechanical Design and Production has over the years established itself as an excellent forum for the exchange of ideas in these established fields. The first of these conferences was held in 1979. The seventh, and most recent, conference in the series was held in Cairo during February 15-17, 2000. International engineers and scientists gathered to exchange experiences and highlight the state-of-the-art research in the fields of mechanical design and production. In addition a heavy emphasis was placed on the issue of technology transfer. Over 100 papers were accepted for presentation at the conference. Current Advances in Mechanical Design & Production VII does not, however, attempt to publish the complete work presented but instead offers a sample that represents the quality and breadth of both the work and the conference. Ten invited papers and 54 ordinary papers have been selected for inclusion in these proceedings. They cover a range of basic and applied topics that can be classified into six main categories: System Dynamics, Solid Mechanics, Material Science, Manufacturing Processes, Design and Tribology, and Industrial Engineering and its Applications.

This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent investigations into blast-resistant properties of polyureas and other multi-phase polymeric elastomers indicate that they can dissipate broad bands of frequencies such as those encountered in blast events. In this unique book, Elastomeric Polymers with High Rate Sensitivity, Dr. Roshdy Barsoum and expert contributors bring together the cutting-edge testing methodologies, material properties, and critical design data for engineers seeking to deploy this technology. Book Effects of Prior Aging at 274 Degree C in Argon on Inelastic Deformation Behavior of PMR 15 Polymer at 288 Degreee C Experiment and Modeling

Download or read book Effects of Prior Aging at 274 Degree C in Argon on Inelastic Deformation Behavior of PMR 15 Polymer at 288 Degreee C Experiment and Modeling written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inelastic deformation behavior of PMR-15 neat resin, a high-temperature polymer, was investigated at 288 deg C. The experimental program was designed to explore the influence of strain rate on loading and unloading behaviors. In addition, the effect of prior strain rate on creep, relaxation, and recovery responses was evaluated. The material exhibits positive, nonlinear strain rate sensitivity in monotonic loading. The creep, relaxation, and recovery responses are significantly influenced by prior strain rate. The experimental data were modeled using the Viscoplasticity Based on Overstress for Polymers (VBOP) theory. The effects of prior aging in argon at 274 deg C on the time (rate)-dependent behavior of the PMR-15 polymer were evaluated in a series of stress and strain controlled experiments. Several of the VBO material parameters were expanded as functions of prior aging time. The resulting model was used to predict the behavior of PMR-15 subjected to prior aging at 274 deg C for 2000h. The effects of aging at 274 deg C were compared to previous research in which aging was conducted at 288 deg C.
