Book excerpt: For Centuries, the Christian world and the scientific world have supposedly been at odds. Those who strictly believe that God created the universe have had difficulty accepting such scientific concepts as the speed of light, the immense distance of astronomy, and the long ages of radioactivity and earth science. "I am incredibly pleased and relieved that God allowed Geoffrey to publish such a well-structured, non biased, factual book, explaining how Science and Christianity coexist in our world. If everyone read this book, of course, after having read and understood scripture, we would have a lot less pointless, narrow minded opinions of persons defending biased viewpoints based on ignorance. Not a very Christian thing to say I know, but having read a lot of strange material published on the internet, I can quite honestly understand why there is such so much confusion regarding Christianity and Science. This is by far the most down to earth, unbiased, factual piece of writing I have read in a very long time. Geoffrey is clearly a very qualified and talented Scientist, and also a very fine example of a Christian. He is very careful not to judge people in situations, as a Christian must do, and with great knowledge, explains everything one needs to know based on Truth. I sincerely hope that this book is read and understood, by as many people as possible." Reviews from Stefano, Amazon

Book Science and the Eastern Orthodox Church

Download or read book Science and the Eastern Orthodox Church written by Daniel Buxhoeveden and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-01 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science and the Eastern Orthodox Church explores core theological and philosophical notions and contentious topics such as evolution from the vantage point of science, Orthodox theology, and the writings of popular recent Orthodox critics as well as supporters. Examining what science is and why Eastern Orthodox Christians should be concerned about the topic, including a look at well known 20th century figures that are considered holy elders or saints in the Orthodox Church and their relationship and thoughts about science, contributors analyse the historical contingencies that contribute to the relationship of the Orthodox Church and science both in the past and present. Part II includes critiques of science and considers its limitations and strengths in light of Orthodox understandings of the experience of God and the so called miraculous, together with analysis of two Orthodox figures of the 20th century that were highly critical of science, it's foundations and metaphysical assumptions. Part III looks at selected topics in science and how they relate to Orthodox theology, including evolution, brain evolution and consciousness, beginning of life science, nanotechnology, stem cell research and others. Drawing together leading Orthodox scientists, theologians, and historians confronting some of the critical issues and uses of modern science, this book will be useful for students, academics and clergy who want to develop a greater understanding of how to relate Orthodoxy to science.

Book Beyond These Horizons

Download or read book Beyond These Horizons written by John Breck and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "From the electron microscope to the Hubble space telescope, modern technological advances have broadened our horizons - macroscopic and microscopic - beyond anything imaginable prior to the 1930s. One of the most important discoveries of the past few decades is the fact that everything, beginning with subatomic particles and including star systems and conscious human life, emerges from an underlying, transcendent Reality that brings all things from nonexistence into being through a continuous act of creation. All things are essentially interconnected in an entangled unity, which obliges us to view the world as a great hologram in which every aspect contains information of the Whole. This book raises the question of the relationship between that Reality and the Christian understanding of God. Written in the form of a simple novel, it begins by offering an overview, in lay terms, of quantum theory as it has developed since the early twentieth century. Gradually it lays the groundwork for an exploration of the relationship between quantum mechanics and certain key aspects of traditional Christian teaching. Its aim is to make clear that our usual conception of God and the world, in the words of the English theologian J.B. Phillips, is far 'too small.' With the help of insights drawn from quantum theory, we can now see that Creation is more intricate, more interconnected and more beautiful than our forebears could ever have imagined."--Publisher.

Book An Old Testament Theology

Download or read book An Old Testament Theology written by Bruce K. Waltke and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2011-04-19 with total page 1042 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Old Testament is more than a religious history of the nation of Israel. It is more than a portrait gallery of heroes of the faith. It is even more than a theological and prophetic backdrop to the New Testament. Beyond these, the Old Testament is inspired revelation of the very nature, character, and works of God. As renowned Old Testament scholar Bruce Waltke writes in the preface of this book, the Old Testament’s every sentence is “fraught with theology, worthy of reflection.” This book is the result of decades of reflection informed by an extensive knowledge of the Hebrew language, the best of critical scholarship, a deep understanding of both the content and spirit of the Old Testament, and a thoroughly evangelical conviction. Taking a narrative, chronological approach to the text, Waltke employs rhetorical criticism to illuminate the theologies of the biblical narrators. Through careful study, he shows that the unifying theme of the Old Testament is the “breaking in of the kingdom of God.” This theme helps the reader better understand not only the Old Testament, but also the New Testament, the continuity of the entire Bible, and ultimately, God himself.

Book The Physics and Philosophy of the Bible

Download or read book The Physics and Philosophy of the Bible written by James Frederick Ivey M.D. and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2017-12-05 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Albert Einstein taught that imagination is more important than knowledge, probably having come to this conclusion through a realization that almost all science represents belieffaithas opposed to knowledge. It should come as no surprise, then, that scienceespecially modern physics with its theories of relativity and quantum mechanicshas revolutionized thinking about the likelihood of the existence of God. In The Physics and Philosophy of the Bible, author and physician James Frederick Ivey explains how science, particularly quantum mechanics and relativity, aided by Platos philosophy and the history of Jewish people, can be utilized in order to virtually prove that God exists, that he is unique, and that he is the biblical deity. Ultimately an exploration of Christian philosophy and apologeticsincluding discussions of Christian history, secular retorts, the intersection of science and faith, and the relationship between physics and ultimate truthThe Physics and Philosophy of the Bible demonstrates that apologists are very close to the non-necessity of having to deal with whether God exists or not. From Platos earliest philosophical insights to the most groundbreaking discoveries in contemporary physics, we can find the fingerprints of God that prove He is with us. And. God seeks us just as we seek him, for he desires cognitive individuals with whom he can enjoy mutual love and intimacy.

Book Energy in Orthodox Theology and Physics

Download or read book Energy in Orthodox Theology and Physics written by Stoyan Tanev and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-08-29 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is well known that energy is a fundamental concept in physics. Much less well known is that it is also a key concept in Eastern Christian or Orthodox theology. This book from Dr. Stoyan Tanev—a physicist, innovation management scholar, and theologian—provides a comparative analysis of the conceptualizations of energy in Orthodox theology and in physics, and demonstrates the potential of such comparison for a better understanding of these two quite different domains of human enquiry. The book explores the rediscovery of the Byzantine Church’s teaching on the Divine energies in twentieth-century Orthodox theology, and offers new insights about the key contributions of key theologians such as Sergius Bulgakov, George Florovsky, John Meyendorff, Christos Yannaras, and Thomas Torrance. Where do the understandings of energy in theology and physics meet? The author argues that the encounter between theology and physics happens at the level of quantum physics, where the subtle use of words and language acquires a distinctive apophatic dimension. His comparative approach focuses on the epistemological struggles of theologians and physicists. According to Tanev, this focus on the struggles of knowing offers a new way to look at the dialogue between science and theology.

This study reveals how God, the master scientist, used His created laws of science to manifest His triune nature to us. Scientific plausibility is revealed for a literal six day creation and a young Universe. This book builds Christian faith for a new Heaven, new Earth, and immortal bodies. This work demonstrates how the Bible gives credibility to current scientific theories and vice versa. Reading these pages you will discover how bible scripture supports many scientific assertions. People who read this novel are pleasantly startled and exclaim that they have never thought of life in this way before. This is an inspiration of the divine because it presents scientific based hope of life forever with miraculous purpose. This novel will open the flood gates of discovering exciting new ways of thinking and speaking that will usher in a new era of doing greater works than Christ Jesus did (John 14:12). Creation evidence is scientifically verifiable and mathematically sound. Christianity is evidence-based not blind faith. All of creation displays order and pattern that is intelligently designed, and does so with purposeful super complexity that defies human understanding. This textbook uses the same body of techniques used in the scientific method of investigation. Pure science and easy to understand. A learning teaching tool.
