Book Hints for Six Months in Europe

Download or read book Hints for Six Months in Europe written by John H. B. Latrobe and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-31 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hints for Six Months in Europe: Being the Programme of a Tour Through Parts of France, Italy, Austria, Saxony, Prussia, the Tyrol, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, England and Scotland, in the Summer of 1868 The voyage was longer than had been anticipated. The Europe was a slow ship, even with the assistance of a heavy north-wester from the edge of the Gulf Stream to within twenty-four hours of the French coast. But she was staunch and comfortable, having much less motion in a sea-way than the faster-going propellers of the same line: the discipline and service were admirable, and the table was all that could be de sired. The eleven and a half days of the voyage soon slipped by, therefore; and during the latter part, the writer, with the aid of Bradshaw's Continental Guide and the recollections of two previous tours, completed in minute detail the Itinerary, which was subsequently followed with scarcely a deviation. Download or read book The Tour De France 1903 2003 written by Hugh Dauncey and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-08-02 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the Tour de France over its long history both as France's most prestigious and famous sporting event and as a European and, increasingly, a world cycling competition. This study provides interdisciplinary and varied perspectives on the sporting, cultural, social, economic and political significance of the Tour within and outside France, giving a comprehensive and authoritative investigation of up-to-the minute thinking on what the Tour means, now and in the past, to competitors, to France, to the French public, to the cultural history of sport, and the sport of cycling itself.
