Book Application of the Electrical Resistivity Method in Groundwater Exploration

Download or read book Application of the Electrical Resistivity Method in Groundwater Exploration written by Joseph Amadi and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Geography / Earth Science - Geology, Mineralogy, Soil Science, grade: 3.91, , course: Geology/Mining Technology, language: English, abstract: The Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) technique was carried out in Alode Community of Eleme Local Government Area in Rivers State to determine the geo-electrical and hydrogeological characteristics of the aquifers present in the area, and to delineate the geo-electric stratigraphy of each VES station. A total of three (3) VES were carried out with the ABEM Terrameter SAS 300C, using the Schlumberger Configuration. Maximum half-current electrode spread (AB/2) of 1m up to 150m was used, while the half potential electrode separation (MN/2) was maintained between 0.5m and 7.5m. The VES curves were quantitatively interpreted by partial curve matching and computer iteration techniques, using the IP1 WIN computer software. The results of the interpreted VES data confirm the following stratigraphies: top soil (40.2-65.2Ωm), shale (32.2-86.3Ωm), fine-medium sand (172-204Ωm), medium-coarse sand (532Ωm), and medium sand (417Ωm). Geo-electric sections reveal that the aquiferous units are mostly confined, with depth to aquifer range of 47m for VES 1 and 2 and 21m for VES 3.

Download or read book Seeing into the Earth written by Committee for Noninvasive Characterization of the Shallow Subsurface for Environmental and Engineering Applications and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2000-05-10 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just below our feet is an environment that supports our infrastructure, yields water, provides for agriculture, and receives our waste. Our capacity to describe, or characterize, this environment is crucial to the solution of many resource, environmental, and engineering problems. And just as medical imaging technologies have reduced the need for exploratory surgeries, a variety of technologies hold the promise for rapid, relatively inexpensive noninvasive characterization of the Earth's subsurface. Seeing into the Earth examines why noninvasive characterization is important and how improved methods can be developed and disseminated. Looking at the issues from both the commercial and public perspectives, the volume makes recommendations for linking characterization and cost savings, closing the gap between the state of science and the state of the practice, and helping practitioners make the best use of the best methods. The book provides background on: The role of noninvasive subsurface characterization in contaminant cleanup, resource management, civil engineering, and other areas. The physical, chemical, biological, and geological properties that are characterized. Methods of characterization and prospects for technological improvement. Certain to be important for earth scientists and engineers alike, this book is also accessible to interested lay readers.

Book Hydrogeophysics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Yorum Rubin
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2006-05-06
  • ISBN : 1402031025
  • Pages : 518 pages

Download or read book Hydrogeophysics written by Yorum Rubin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-05-06 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ground-breaking work is the first to cover the fundamentals of hydrogeophysics from both the hydrogeological and geophysical perspectives. Authored by leading experts and expert groups, the book starts out by explaining the fundamentals of hydrological characterization, with focus on hydrological data acquisition and measurement analysis as well as geostatistical approaches. The fundamentals of geophysical characterization are then at length, including the geophysical techniques that are often used for hydrogeological characterization. Unlike other books, the geophysical methods and petrophysical discussions presented here emphasize the theory, assumptions, approaches, and interpretations that are particularly important for hydrogeological applications. A series of hydrogeophysical case studies illustrate hydrogeophysical approaches for mapping hydrological units, estimation of hydrogeological parameters, and monitoring of hydrogeological processes. Finally, the book concludes with hydrogeophysical frontiers, i.e. on emerging technologies and stochastic hydrogeophysical inversion approaches.

Book Groundwater Hydrology

Download or read book Groundwater Hydrology written by David Keith Todd and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-08-06 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thorough, up-to-date guide to groundwater science and technology Our understanding of the occurrence and movement of water under the Earth's surface is constantly advancing, with new models, improved drilling equipment, new research, and refined techniques for managing this vital resource. Responding to these tremendous changes, David Todd and new coauthor Larry Mays equip readers with a thorough and up-to-date grounding in the science and technology of groundwater hydrology. Groundwater Hydrology, Third Edition offers a unified presentation of the field, treating fundamental principles, methods, and problems as a whole. With this new edition, you'll be able to stay current with recent developments in groundwater hydrology, learn modern modeling methods, and apply what you've learned to realistic situations. Highlights of the Third Edition * New example problems and case studies, as well as problem sets at the end of each chapter. * A special focus on modern groundwater modeling methods, including a new chapter on modeling (Chapter 9), which describes the U. S. Geological Survey MODFLOW model. * Over 300 new figures and photos. * Both SI and U.S. customary units in the example problems. * Expanded coverage of groundwater contamination by chemicals. * New references at the end of each chapter, which provide sources for research and graduate study. Student and instructor resources for this text are available on the book's website at www.wiley.com/college/todd.
