Book An Investigation of the Towing Characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle DSRV Part III Surfaced and Submerged Towing in a Regular Seaway

Download or read book An Investigation of the Towing Characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle DSRV Part III Surfaced and Submerged Towing in a Regular Seaway written by and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The surfaced and submerged towing characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) are examined for a variety of towing ship fantail motions and regular waves. The results indicate that under the conditions examined, the DSRV will tow in a dynamically stable and predictable manner and that, in large waves, approaching those of a State 5 sea, a synthetic towline with a breaking strength of at least 150,000 pounds should be used to provide a satisfactory margin of safety against peak tension loads.

Book An Investigation of the Towing Characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle DSRV Part II Surface Towing in Calm Water

Download or read book An Investigation of the Towing Characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle DSRV Part II Surface Towing in Calm Water written by Charles W. Sieber and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The surface towing characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) are examined for a variety of towpoints and ballast conditions. The results indicate that the DSRV may with care be successfully towed on the surface at speeds up to 3.3 knots. Using towpoints located on the forward hard ring, vehicle net buoyancies from 130 to 2730 pounds may be employed. Care must be exercised to avoid the regimes of lateral divergence and spontaneous submergence, the boundaries of each being defined. (Author).

Book An Investigation of the Towing Characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle Part I Submerged Towing in Clear Water

Download or read book An Investigation of the Towing Characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle Part I Submerged Towing in Clear Water written by Charles W. Sieber and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The submerged towing characteristics of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) are examined for a variety of towpoints and ballast conditions. The results indicate that DSRV can be readily towed at speeds up to at least 15 knots from towpoints located on the forward hard ring with vehicle net buoyancies from 0-2000 pounds positive. The hydrodynamic downforce produced by the vehicle without additional appendages such as a depressor is sufficient to produce towing depths of 100-150 feet with less than 500 feet of submerged towline length. Book Hydrodynamic Towing Evaluation of SSBN 623 and SSBN 636

Download or read book Hydrodynamic Towing Evaluation of SSBN 623 and SSBN 636 written by Allan A. Muise and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental evaluation was conducted to investigate the surface towing characteristics of the SSBN-623 and SSBN-636 submarines. A 1/19.394-scale model was towed in the David Taylor Model Basin deep water towing basin, varying towpoint location, metacentric height (GM), trim and several stern appendage modifications. SSBN-623 was towed in a stable configuration at speeds up to 10 kn full-scale with the sternplanes set to 25 deg trailing edge up, at trim between 4.5 ft (1.37 m) and 6.0 ft (1.83 m) down by the stern, with a GM between 0.97 ft (0.296 m) and 1.90 ft (0.579 m), and with a lower-rudder plate appendage attached. A stable towing configuration can be obtained for SSBN-636 by replacing the missing 4-ft (1.22 m) section of the lower rudder and making the same changes as listed for SSBN-623. The use of sternplane scoops stabilized both SSBN-623 and SSBN-636, but with a non-acceptable increase in towline tension. Hydrodynamic performance, Towing characteristics, Submarine towing stability.

Book An Experimental Investigation of the Towing Characteristics of the Auxiliary Repair Drydock USS White Sands ARDS1 ex ARD 20

Download or read book An Experimental Investigation of the Towing Characteristics of the Auxiliary Repair Drydock USS White Sands ARDS1 ex ARD 20 written by R. M. Knutson and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The towing characteristics of the Auxiliary Repair Drydock, USS WHITE SANDS ARDS1 (ex ARD-20) are examined. Operational considerations are discussed, and a method of improving the directional stability by the addition of skegs is investigated. The stability, towing tensions, and the effects on maneuverability of various skeg arrangements are compared to those of the hull without skegs. The results indicate that skegs will improve the towing performance of WHITE SANDS without severely compromising hull maneuverability. Further information concerning the towing characteristics of the ARD with standard rudders (ARD-30 type configuration) is contained in the Appendix. These results indicate that the rudders do not have sufficient projected area to provide directional stability.

Book Reliability Prediction for a Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle Second Reliability Model

Download or read book Reliability Prediction for a Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle Second Reliability Model written by Robert L. Ragot and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A second reliability model of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) is defined. On the basis of this model, a prediction is made of the DSRV reliability for a typical rescue mission. The predicted reliability is computed to be 29%, for a 26-hour vehicle-operating time. The major factor contributing to the low predicted reliability of the vehicle is the high failure rate assumed for the forward and skirt (exterior) lamps. A two-orders-of-magnitude decrease in the assumed failure rate for these underwater lamps results in a predicted reliability of about 80%. Recommendations are made for improving future DSRV reliability studies.
