Specifically, it builds link while introduces two moderating variables, emotional intelligence (EI) and employees’ tenure in the meantime to the investigation of leadership effectiveness. Book An Investigation of Leader Emotional Intelligence as a Predictor of Employee Engagement and Retention

Download or read book An Investigation of Leader Emotional Intelligence as a Predictor of Employee Engagement and Retention written by Raed K. Shenaq and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a rapidly evolving workplace, employee retention is crucial to an organization’s success because retaining competent and experienced employees can be a critical aspect for the competitive advantage and performance of organizations in the long term. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among leader’s emotional intelligence (EI), employee engagement (EE), and employee retention (RET) from a subordinate’s perspective among a sample of employees under the direction of a supervisor/leader. In particular, the relationship between the leader’s EI and EE was investigated, and the relationship between EE and their RET was investigated. Additionally, statistical analysis was used to investigate if the relationship between leader EI and RET is moderated and/or mediated by EE. The sample (N=273) participated in an online survey with some demographic items and items measuring leader EI (as measured by the 16-item Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale, (WLEIS) EE (as measured by the 9-item Utrecht Work Engagement Scale, UWES-9), and RET (as measured by the three- item intention to remain scale from Armstrong-Stassen & Ursel, 2009). Survey data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Although this study is not conclusive, it promotes a sense of urgency for organizations to view their process of retraining effective employees in a holistic way (internal as well as external). Further research should examine the leaders’ perceptions of their own EI, the subordinates’ EE, and RET.

This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Success of any organization largely depends upon its productive workforce. Research has demonstrated that emotional intelligence plays significant role in influencing the performance and productivity of employees at workplace. Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize and monitor one's own emotions, ability to motivate one self and others and being empathetic to others. Past research studies focus on the importance and linkage of emotional intelligence with job satisfaction and its impact on the job performance and productivity. Still there is significant requirement of research to be conducted in the Indian context to study the relationship between emotional intelligence and employee engagement which has become the topmost challenge for the organizations in today's world of cut throat competition. The paper attempts to investigate the relationship between employee engagement and emotional intelligence among service sector employees. For the purpose of data collection, questionnaires were administered among 92 respondents by targeting service sector organizations located in the region of Jalandhar. Pearson correlation analysis was utilized as a tool to determine the relationship employee engagement and emotional intelligence. The findings of the study indicated that out of four factors which define emotional intelligence viz well-being, self-control, emotionality and sociability, well being had a significant positive relationship with employee engagement while emotionality showed significant negative relationship with employee engagement.

Book International Perspectives on Employee Engagement

Download or read book International Perspectives on Employee Engagement written by Michael Segalla and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-06-22 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Employee engagement, or more specifically how to obtain more engagement and what to do with the disengaged, preoccupies C-level executives, human resources professionals, and consultants. Factiva, a global database of more than 33,000 national and international publications indexed by Dow Jones, registered a near-continuous double-digit growth in interest in the topic since 1994. COVID-19 appears to be straining work systems, and employee engagement may be suffering. Interestingly, the American preoccupation with employee engagement, as evidenced by the tens of thousands press mentions indexed by Factiva and the over 38,000 website hits for the search term "employee engagement tools", does not appear shared by the rest of the world. International Perspectives on Employee Engagement offers a predominately non-American view of employee engagement. The authors address employee engagement from a variety of perspectives. They represent both empirical research and theoretical discussions. The chapters have a distinctly international viewpoint with authors hailing from Europe, Middle East, Africa, and North America. Given the cultural diversity of the authors, this book offers a unique, non-American perspective on employee engagement. With a new introduction that specifically examines the possible key performance indicators (KPIs) for the annual executive performance appraisal process resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of International Studies of Management & Organization.

Book A quantitative investigation of the impact of emotional intelligence and SOAR based capacity of leaders on employee retention

Download or read book A quantitative investigation of the impact of emotional intelligence and SOAR based capacity of leaders on employee retention written by John S. Sofia and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a need to retain highly skilled and specialized talent in today’s dynamic and highly competitive global business environment. The challenge is not only selecting, recruiting, and hiring the right talent, but also making sure that talent is retained for as long as possible after the hire date. The intention of employees to stay employed is critical and a strategic business differentiator for organizational success due to the high cost of recruitment, the intrinsic loss of knowledge and expertise, and the often nondocumented and not understood loss of productivity. The purpose of this dissertation was to evaluate the relationship among emotional intelligence (EI), SOAR and retention (RET) among a sample of professionals who are actively working with a direct supervisor. A sample of 352 participants completed the 16-item Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale to estimate their leaders’ EI, the 19-item SOAR profile to estimate their leaders’ SOAR-based capacity, and the Intention to Remain scale to selfreport their RET. This study was designed as a quantitative cross-sectional survey design to investigate three research questions and test three study hypotheses regarding the EI and SOAR-based capacity of leaders, and the effects leader EI and leader SOAR have on subordinate RET. Participants were either active members of an Alumni Association of a Midwestern University, or current working and former professional contacts of the researcher. Survey data were analyzed using general linear model (GLM) statistical analysis. Results found statistical support for leader EI and leader SOAR as positive predictors of subordinate RET. Results also found SOAR moderated the relationship between EI and RET in males but not females. The implications of this study suggest that employers and higher education instructors must embrace the challenge of identifying the right talent with the relevant EI abilities and SOAR capabilities (soft skills) required for today’s business needs such as: critical thinking, collaboration, active listening, interpersonal skills, strategic thinking, and communication. In addition to collaborating with higher education on the development and the teaching of EI and SOAR soft skills, organizational leaders should create a culture that encourages all employees to have inclusive and meaningful conversations. This can be accomplished utilizing the SOAR capabilities of active listening, engagement, communication, and the creation of meaningful dialogue around strengths, opportunities, aspirations, and results.

Book Employee Engagement and Emotional Intelligence of Contact Center Personnel

Download or read book Employee Engagement and Emotional Intelligence of Contact Center Personnel written by Darwin Louis O. Baetiong and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was designed to focus on the interrelationship of socio-demographic characteristics, Employee Engagement, and Emotional Intelligence of contact center personnel. The study wanted to find out the level of Employee Engagement and Emotional Intelligence of contact center personnel and the relationship that exists between the two. Moreover, the study sought to examine if there is a significant difference between the respondents' level of Employee Engagement and Emotional Intelligence when grouped according to their socio-demographic characteristics. The descriptive-correlational method of research was used to identify the relationship that exists between the socio-demographic characteristics, Employee Engagement, and Emotional Intelligence. The participants utilized the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) to measure employee engagement, which was developed by Dr. Wilmar Schaufeli and Dr. Arnold Bakker of the Occupational Health Psychology Unit of Utrecht University in the Netherlands, and the Emotional intelligence Appraisal to measure Emotional Intelligence, which was authored by Dr. Travis Bradberry and Dr. Jean Grease of TalentSmart, the leading provider of emotional intellligence tests, products, training and consulting. Findings revealed that the contact center personnel's level of Employee Engagement is average while their level of Emotional Intelligence is above average. Employee Enaggement and Emotional Intelligence have a significant relationship at .05 level. Employee Engagement and Emotional Intelligence appeared to have a positive relationship signifying that the higher the Employee Engagement level is, the higher the Emotional Intelligence level of the respondents. Moreover, the results imply that age, gender and marital status of contact center personnel do not influence Employee Engagement and Emotional intelligence levels. Based on the results of the study, an employee relations program which the researcher coined as "Work Relations Wellness Program" has been designed. The work Relations Wellness Program consists of employee activities that aim to maintain if not enhance the employee engagement and emotional intelligence levels of contact center personnel.

Book Emotional Intelligence of Managers and the Effect on Virtual Workers

Download or read book Emotional Intelligence of Managers and the Effect on Virtual Workers written by Daniel Green and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizations are increasingly turning toward telecommuting. Many studies have investigated the relationship of Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Employee Engagement (EE) in traditional environments, but it was not known if the EI of managers had any effect on EE scores within a virtual work environment, when the virtual relationship variable was specifically controlled for. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to test the theory that the EI of managers in a virtual work environment was correlated with the EE scores of workers in a Fortune 500 company. The EQ-i 2.0 EI assessment was administered to 87 managers within a Fortune 500 company that had virtual direct reports, and results from that assessment were compared to EE results from the corporate Pulse survey. A Spearman correlation analysis revealed that there was a significant, positive relationship between overall EI of managers and EE of virtual workers (Σ = .226). The statistical analysis also showed that there was a significant positive relationship between the Manager Self-Expression Composite Score and EE of virtual workers (Σ = .224), but it revealed no relationship between the Manager Interpersonal Composite Score and EE of virtual workers (Σ = .012). The results of this study indicate that the relationship of EI and EE transcends traditional environments and continues to exist in the virtual realm, and that focusing on raising EI within managers can help boost desired business outcomes, like increased EE, within modern Fortune 500 work environments.
