Book Heat Transfer in Subsonic Separated Flows

Download or read book Heat Transfer in Subsonic Separated Flows written by Viktor I. Terekhov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-02-05 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the results of scientific research performed over the past two decades by the authors. The book discusses some issues of separated laminar flows that are of great practical interest for the development of new technologies using microchannel flows, where separation zones can form. Of particular interest is the complex mechanism of flow separation with superimposed high external turbulence. The challenges of finding the optimal location for the cavities and fins on heat exchange surfaces are also considered. This is an important fundamental and practical problem when creating new schemes of efficient heat exchangers in various power plants. A wide class of problems of turbulent flow in tubes with flow separation is considered. These data will be useful in engineering estimates of the thermal–hydraulic efficiency of various heat transfer intensifiers. This book focuses on the analysis of thermal characteristics of separated flows, as well as the possibility of controlling the intensity of heat exchange processes, from the point of view of both their intensification and their suppression.

Book Heat Transfer and Flow Structure in End Wall Boundary Layers

Download or read book Heat Transfer and Flow Structure in End Wall Boundary Layers written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytical, numerical, and experimental stndies have documented the flow development and surface heat transfer for several three dimensional end-wall flows, and indicate the presence of highly unsteady vortex formation within the end-wall boundary layer. This vortex formation process leads rapidly to the evolution of three dimensional separation effects which have a profound influence on the surface heat transfer. Analysis of the three dimensional behavior indicates the presence of persistent and strong interactions between the end-wall boundary layers on both the surface and the side-wall boundary layers of the obstacle. A detailed series of Navier-Stokes calculations have been carried out for a vortex-induced motion similar to that encountered in turbulent boundary layers. As the Reynolds number is increased, a new type of instability associated with surface layer separation was found which leads to brealmp of the surface layer. Experimentally, laminar approach flows always develop discrete, periodic necklace vortices in the junction region, whereas a turbulent approach yields a dominant necklace or horseshoe-shaped vortex that moves chaotically. Examinations of the complex fluid/heat transfer processes using PIV and thermochiomic liquid crystals shows that these junction vortices undergo very strong surface interactions, which creates strongly focused "eruptions" of surface fluid; these studies show a direct correlation between the eruptive processes and local regions of high heat transfer.

Book Influence of Surface Geometry and Heating on the Flow Structure in Wall bounded Flows

Download or read book Influence of Surface Geometry and Heating on the Flow Structure in Wall bounded Flows written by Shivani Tara Gajusingh and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present research is aimed at improving the knowledge and understanding of the physical processes that control heat transfer across the solid-fluid interface, which is very important in order to develop efficient heat exchangers. To achieve this objective, the research has been divided into three phases, which investigated the fundamental physical phenomena from different aspects. The first phase provided the first detailed investigation of the impact of different wall roughness on the turbulent properties in a smooth channel. The results show the different wall roughness has significant effects on the mean streamwise velocity and Reynolds stress distribution. For other turbulent properties, the enhancement was observed near the rough wall, however, it was restricted to the inner region. The second phase provided the first quantitative comparison of the mean and turbulent properties in the presence and absence of wall heating under same operating conditions. The results show that both mean and turbulent characteristics are affected by wall heating. The results also showed that an originally laminar flow becomes turbulent with the addition of heat. However for an originally turbulent flow, addition of heat reduces the magnitudes of the mean streamwise velocity and turbulent properties. The third phase provided the first detailed comparison on the turbulent characteristics with and without a baffle. The results showed a significant enhancement of all turbulent characteristics in the region downstream of the baffle. These results demonstrate that higher turbulence produced by a baffle would be responsible for the enhanced heat transfer rate at the wall.
