Book Boundary Layer and Flow Control

Download or read book Boundary Layer and Flow Control written by G. V. Lachmann and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boundary Layer and Flow Control: Its Principles and Application, Volume 2 focuses on the layer of fluid in the immediate area of a bounding surface where the effects of viscosity are substantial. This book is organized into two main topics—boundary layer control for low drag, and shock-induced separation and its prevention by design and boundary layer control. It specifically discusses the nature of transition, effect of two-dimensional and isolated roughness on laminar flow, and progress in the design of low drag aerofoils. The onset of separation effects for aerofoils and wings, shock-induced separation for laminar boundary layers, and shock-induced separation for laminar boundary layers are also deliberated. This volume is recommended to physicists and specialists interested in boundary layer and flow control.

Book Introduction to Interactive Boundary Layer Theory

Download or read book Introduction to Interactive Boundary Layer Theory written by Ian John Sobey and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2000 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the major achievements in fluid mechanics in the last quarter of the twentieth century has been the development of an asymptotic description of perturbations to boundary layers known generally as 'triple deck theory'. These developments have had a major impact on our understanding of laminar fluid flow, particularly laminar separation. It is also true that the theory rests on three quarters of a century of development of boundary layer theory which involves analysis, experimentation and computation. All these parts go together, and to understand the triple deck it is necessary to understand which problems the triple deck resolves and which computational techniques have been applied. This book presents a unified account of the development of laminar boundary layer theory as a historical study together with a description of the application of the ideas of triple deck theory to flow past a plate, to separation from a cylinder and to flow in channels. The book is intended to provide a graduate level teaching resource as well as a mathematically oriented account for a general reader in applied mathematics, engineering, physics or scientific computation.

Book An Introduction to Boundary Layer Meteorology

Download or read book An Introduction to Boundary Layer Meteorology written by Roland B. Stull and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1988-07-31 with total page 688 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part of the excitement in boundary-layer meteorology is the challenge associated with turbulent flow - one of the unsolved problems in classical physics. An additional attraction of the filed is the rich diversity of topics and research methods that are collected under the umbrella-term of boundary-layer meteorology. The flavor of the challenges and the excitement associated with the study of the atmospheric boundary layer are captured in this textbook. Fundamental concepts and mathematics are presented prior to their use, physical interpretations of the terms in equations are given, sample data are shown, examples are solved, and exercises are included. The work should also be considered as a major reference and as a review of the literature, since it includes tables of parameterizatlons, procedures, filed experiments, useful constants, and graphs of various phenomena under a variety of conditions. It is assumed that the work will be used at the beginning graduate level for students with an undergraduate background in meteorology, but the author envisions, and has catered for, a heterogeneity in the background and experience of his readers.

Book A Background of the Problems of Boundary Layer Research

Download or read book A Background of the Problems of Boundary Layer Research written by H. Schlichting and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The progress in the field of boundary layer research in recent years is briefly surveyed. The following items are treated to some extent: stability and transition, turbulent boundary layers, three-dimensional boundary layers, boundary layer control, and boundary layers in hypersonic flow. Book Separation of Flow

Download or read book Separation of Flow written by Paul K. Chang and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interdisciplinary and Advanced Topics in Science and Engineering, Volume 3: Separation of Flow presents the problem of the separation of fluid flow. This book provides information covering the fields of basic physical processes, analyses, and experiments concerning flow separation. Organized into 12 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the flow separation on the body surface as discusses in various classical examples. This text then examines the analytical and experimental results of the laminar boundary layer of steady, two-dimensional flows in the subsonic speed range. Other chapters consider the study of flow separation on the two-dimensional body, flow separation on three-dimensional body shape and particularly on bodies of revolution. This book discusses as well the analytical solutions of the unsteady flow separation. The final chapter deals with the purpose of separation flow control to raise efficiency or to enhance the performance of vehicles and fluid machineries involving various engineering applications. This book is a valuable resource for engineers.

Book Advanced Concepts For Boundary Layer Control

Download or read book Advanced Concepts For Boundary Layer Control written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New concepts for turbulent boundary layer control for viscous drag reduction have been explored through numerical experiments. Direct numerical simulations of a turbulent channel flow have been conducted to develop new robust control strategies. Three different control schemes have been developed. These include applications of neural networks, a suboptimal control theory, and systems control theory. The first two approaches were developed for viscous drag reduction in turbulent boundary layers, while the third approach was developed for delay of transition to turbulence. In all cases, surface blowing and suction was used as control input. All three approaches led to simple feedback control laws, which led to substantial viscous drag reduction (neural network and suboptimal control theory) and delay of transition (systems control theory). Implication of these results as well as issues regarding practical implementation are discussed.
