Book Quest for Meaning Through an Intimate Walk with God

Download or read book Quest for Meaning Through an Intimate Walk with God written by H. Baté Agbor-Baiyee and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2015-01-28 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quest for Meaning through an intimate walk with God is about divine empowerment and spiritual awakening through the incalculable possibilities of prayers and relationship with God. This book underscores the fact that nothing is too immense or trifling to be a theme or subject of prayer. Though prayer is central in vitalizing our existence, all too often, it is not understood, ignored, or avoided. In our deepest valley of despair and despondency, Jesus notices our tears and sufferings; He knows the full magnitude of our aches and has reassured us that He will not leave us to our own stratagem. All He asks of us is to invite Him to dwell in us, the temple of God. There is something simply prophetic and powerful about a heart which even in disillusionment is willing to look up to God in praise and worship as the case is for many despairing African and immigrant children. They struggle with doubt and wrestle with anxiety and discouragements, especially when their prayers go unanswered while lost in the gorge of the shadow. Yet, they have undertaken to categorically love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with your entire mind. This is a bare-knuckled collection of stimulating and liberating prayers that addresses a broad expanse of existential issues faced by fearless African children in their fragile stations in life. They are passionately praying like Paul asking Father-God the good Shepherd for direction and protection. Although the fear in their eyes and angst in their souls have transformed into futility, their hearts do not panic because they know no satanic weapon formed against them shall flourish. They are assured through prayers that they are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus the enthroned Creator. Quest for Meaning proffers assuring prayers that serve as tonic to cool-off the penury, effrontery and tormenting experiences of the afflicted. Be anxious of nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Download or read book A Walk With The Light In The Shadows written by Paul Gaumer and published by Carpenter's Son Publishing. This book was released on 2022-03-01 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you a Christian? Do you walk daily with the Lord? Are there times when the darkness and demons overtake your thoughts? Just know, you are not alone. A Walk With The Light In The Shadows is the personal journal of Paul Gaumer, a Christian who lives each day with Bipolar Disorder. Join him on a journey into his life as he deals with the darkness and demons all while trying to keep God at the center of his life. He understands that dealing with a mental illness cannot be prayed away. The thoughts that he, and you, are feeling are real and sometimes need to be dealt with beyond prayer. But, God will never leave you nor will He forsake you and will walk along side of you during the times you need Him most. The stigma of mental health is real, especially in the Christian community. Paul hopes that his book will help begin to start the discussions to end the stigma of mental health among Christians. We have stayed in the shadows long enough. It's time to discuss mental health in the Christian community and let the Light lead your path.

Book Walk It Off

Download or read book Walk It Off written by Ruth Marshall and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2018-01-02 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Furiously Happy meets Elaine Lui in this truly original—and surprisingly hilarious—memoir about one woman’s journey to learn how to walk after a debilitating diagnosis turned her life upside down. Learn How to Walk (Again) To-Do List: Step 1: Stand Step 2: Step Step 3: Pee (Yes!) Step 4: Walk with walker Step 5: Walk with sticks Step 6: Walk without props Recreational interlude for sex Step 7: RUN! Ruth Marshall—power mom, wife, actor, and daughter—was in great health, until one day, her feet started to tingle. She visited doctors and specialists for tests, but no one could figure out the cause of her symptoms. Was she imagining those pesky tingles? She tried to brush it off, even as she tripped over curbs and stumbled into people. Clumsiness is charming, right? But when Ruth suddenly couldn’t feel her legs at all, she knew something was terribly wrong. Her fears were confirmed by an MRI revealing a rare tumour that had been quietly growing on her spine for more than a decade. Within days, surgery was scheduled, and after the intense eight-hour ordeal, Ruth woke up to find her legs and feet had forgotten how to do...well, everything. The question that burned in her mind was, “Will I ever walk again?” What Ruth thought would be three days in the hospital turned into months of rehabilitation as she relearned not only how to walk, run, pee, and even have sex again, but how to better appreciate everyone around her—including her devoted husband, her two young sons, her worried parents, her sisters, her loving friends, and the caring staff at the rehab center who help her tackle her recovery head-on. Laugh-out-loud outrageous and searingly honest, this is a memoir that not only entertains but inspires readers to put their best foot forward and walk off anything life throws their way.

Book Why I Walk

Download or read book Why I Walk written by Kevin Klinkenberg and published by New Society Publishers. This book was released on 2014-08-11 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This memoir of life as a committed pedestrian in a beautiful Southern city explores the many joys and benefits of walking as a way of life. Raised on the notion that driving is the essence of freedom, many of us still cling to the belief that the American Dream is defined by a house in the suburbs and a car in the garage. But in Why I Walk, Kevin Klinkenberg shares a very different dream life—and a very different kind of freedom. A few years ago, Kevin moved to Savannah, Georgia, from Kansas City, Missouri. In large part, he chose his new home because he was seeking a truly walkable place to live. Going beyond the typical arguments against suburbia, he shows how walking on a daily basis has improved his health, finances, social life, and sense of personal freedom. By focusing directly on the real, measurable advantages of choosing to be a pedestrian, Why I Walk makes a convincing case for ending our love affair with the automobile—and rekindling the romance of walking.

Download or read book Walking Prey written by Holly Austin Smith and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2014-03-18 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, two cultural forces are converging to make America's youth easy targets for sex traffickers. Younger and younger girls are engaging in adult sexual attitudes and practices, and the pressure to conform means thousands have little self-worth and are vulnerable to exploitation. At the same time, thanks to social media, texting, and chatting services, predators are able to ferret out their victims more easily than ever before. In Walking Prey, advocate and former victim Holly Austin Smith shows how middle class suburban communities are fast becoming the new epicenter of sex trafficking in America. Smith speaks from experience: Without consistent positive guidance or engagement, Holly was ripe for exploitation at age fourteen. A chance encounter with an older man led her to run away from home, and she soon found herself on the streets of Atlantic City. Her experience led her, two decades later, to become one of the foremost advocates for trafficking victims. Smith argues that these young women should be treated as victims by law enforcement, but that too often the criminal justice system lacks the resources and training to prevent the vicious cycle of prostitution. This is a clarion call to take a sharp look at one of the most striking human rights abuses, and one that is going on in our own backyard.

Book Six Walks In the Footsteps of Henry David Thoreau

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New Yorker Best Book of 2022 A New England Indie Bestselller A New York Times Best Book of Summer, a Wall Street Journal and Town & Country Best Book of Spring “A gorgeous reminder that walking is the most radical form of locomotion nowadays.” —Nick Offerman “I think Thoreau would have liked this book, and that’s a high recommendation.” —Bill McKibben, author of The End of Nature On an autumn morning in 1849, Henry David Thoreau stepped out his front door to walk the beaches of Cape Cod. Over a century and a half later, Ben Shattuck does the same. With little more than a loaf of bread, brick of cheese, and a notebook, Shattuck sets out to retrace Thoreau’s path through the Cape’s outer beaches, from the elbow to Provincetown’s fingertip. This is the first of six journeys taken by Shattuck, each one inspired by a walk once taken by Henry David Thoreau. After the Cape, Shattuck goes up Mount Katahdin and Mount Wachusett, down the coastline of his hometown, and then through the Allagash. Along the way, Shattuck encounters unexpected characters, landscapes, and stories, seeing for himself the restorative effects that walking can have on a dampened spirit. Over years of following Thoreau, Shattuck finds himself uncovering new insights about family, love, friendship, and fatherhood, and understanding more deeply the lessons walking can offer through life’s changing seasons. Intimate, entertaining, and beautifully crafted, Six Walks is a resounding tribute to the ways walking in nature can inspire us all.

  • ISBN : 1401944523
  • Pages : 385 pages

Download or read book Walking Home written by Sonia Choquette and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2015-09-29 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life was falling apart. Within the space of three years, Sonia Choquette had suffered the unexpected death of two close family members, seen her marriage implode, and been let down by trusted colleagues. And sympathy was not forthcoming. "You’re a world-renowned spiritual teacher and intuitive guide," people jeered. "How could you not have seen this coming?" Having intuitive abilities didn’t make her superhuman, however. Nor did it exempt her from being wounded or suffering the pain of loss and the consequences of our all-too-human traits such as anger, resentment, and pride—traits that can lead even the best of us to stray from our spiritual path. In order to regain her spiritual footing, Sonia turned to the age-old practice of pilgrimage and set out to walk the legendary Camino de Santiago, an 820-kilometer trek over the Pyrenees and across northern Spain. Day after day she pushed through hunger, exhaustion, and pain to reach her destination. Eventually, mortification of the flesh gave way to spiritual renewal, and she rediscovered the gifts of humility and forgiveness that she needed to repair her world. In this riveting book, Sonia shares the intimate details of her grueling experience, as well as the unexpected moments of grace, humor, beauty, and companionship that supported her through her darkest hours. While her journey is unique, the lessons she learned—about honoring your relationships with others as well as with your own higher self, and forgiving all else—are universal.
