Book Wave Turbine Analysis Tool Development

Download or read book Wave Turbine Analysis Tool Development written by Gerard E. Welch and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A quasi-one-dimensional (Q-1-D) computational fluid dynamic solver, previously developed and validated for pressure-exchanger wave rotors, is extended in the present work to include the blade forces of power producing wave rotors (i.e., wave turbines). The accuracy of the single-passage Q-1-D solver is assessed relative to two two-dimensional solvers: a single-passage code and a multi-block stator/rotor/stator code. Comparisons of computed results for inviscid, steady and unsteady flows in passage geometries typical of wave rotors reveal that the blade force model is accurate and that the correlation (effective stress and heat flux) terms of the Q-1-D passage-averaged formulation can be neglected. The ends of the rotor passages pose particular challenges to Q-1-D formulations because the flow there must at times deviate significantly from the mean camber line angle to match the port flow fields. This problem is most acute during the opening and closing of the rotor passages. An example sub-model is developed to account for the deviation between the flow departure angle and the mean camber line exit angle that occurs as an inviscid flow decelerates to meet a uniform pressure boundary. Comparisons of results from four-port wave turbine simulations reveal that the Q-1-D solver currently overpredicts wave turbine performance levels and highlight the need to devote future effort to the boundary conditions and sub-models of the Q-1-D solver.

Book Aircraft Technology

Download or read book Aircraft Technology written by Melih Kushan and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-09-12 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is well known that improvements in space and aviation are the leader of today's technology, and the aircraft is the most important product of aviation. Because of this fact, the books on aircraft are always at the center of interest. In most cases, technologies designed for the aerospace industry are rapidly extending into other areas. For example, although composite materials are developed for the aerospace industry, these materials are not often used in aircraft. However, composite materials are utilized significantly in many different sectors, such as automotive, marine and civil engineering. And materials science in aviation, reliability and efficiency in aircraft technology have a major importance in aircraft design.

Book Gas Turbine Engineering Handbook

Download or read book Gas Turbine Engineering Handbook written by Meherwan P. Boyce and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-09-01 with total page 956 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gas Turbine Engineering Handbook has been the standard for engineers involved in the design, selection, and operation of gas turbines. This revision includes new case histories, the latest techniques, and new designs to comply with recently passed legislation. By keeping the book up to date with new, emerging topics, Boyce ensures that this book will remain the standard and most widely used book in this field. The new Third Edition of the Gas Turbine Engineering Hand Book updates the book to cover the new generation of Advanced gas Turbines. It examines the benefit and some of the major problems that have been encountered by these new turbines. The book keeps abreast of the environmental changes and the industries answer to these new regulations. A new chapter on case histories has been added to enable the engineer in the field to keep abreast of problems that are being encountered and the solutions that have resulted in solving them. Comprehensive treatment of Gas Turbines from Design to Operation and Maintenance. In depth treatment of Compressors with emphasis on surge, rotating stall, and choke; Combustors with emphasis on Dry Low NOx Combustors; and Turbines with emphasis on Metallurgy and new cooling schemes. An excellent introductory book for the student and field engineers A special maintenance section dealing with the advanced gas turbines, and special diagnostic charts have been provided that will enable the reader to troubleshoot problems he encounters in the field The third edition consists of many Case Histories of Gas Turbine problems. This should enable the field engineer to avoid some of these same generic problems

Book Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interactions

Download or read book Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interactions written by Holger Babinsky and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-12 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shock wave-boundary-layer interaction (SBLI) is a fundamental phenomenon in gas dynamics that is observed in many practical situations, ranging from transonic aircraft wings to hypersonic vehicles and engines. SBLIs have the potential to pose serious problems in a flowfield; hence they often prove to be a critical - or even design limiting - issue for many aerospace applications. This is the first book devoted solely to a comprehensive, state-of-the-art explanation of this phenomenon. It includes a description of the basic fluid mechanics of SBLIs plus contributions from leading international experts who share their insight into their physics and the impact they have in practical flow situations. This book is for practitioners and graduate students in aerodynamics who wish to familiarize themselves with all aspects of SBLI flows. It is a valuable resource for specialists because it compiles experimental, computational and theoretical knowledge in one place.

Book Internal Flow

Download or read book Internal Flow written by E. M. Greitzer and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-02-26 with total page 739 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the analysis and behaviour of internal flows encountered in propulsion systems, fluid machinery (compressors, turbines and pumps) and ducts (diffusers, nozzles and combustion chambers). The focus is on phenomena that are important in setting the performance of a broad range of fluid devices. The authors show that even for complex processes one can learn a great deal about the behaviour of such devices from a clear understanding and rigorous use of basic principles. Throughout the book they illustrate theoretical principles by reference to technological applications. The strong emphasis on fundamentals, however, means that the ideas presented can be applied beyond internal flow to other types of fluid motion. The book equips students and practising engineers with a range of new analytical tools. These tools offer enhanced interpretation and application of both experimental measurements and the computational procedures that characterize modern fluids engineering.
