Book Self Etching Primers and Shear Bond Strength of Orthodontic Brackets

Download or read book Self Etching Primers and Shear Bond Strength of Orthodontic Brackets written by Amit Goyal and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-12 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self-etching primers are the latest addition to the armamentarium of an orthodontist. Their main advantage is that they reduce the number of steps required in the bonding of orthodontic brackets. However, their low ph was a cause of concern. This book describes a study undertaken to see the effects of ph of self-etchant on shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets. These shear bond strengths were also compared to those obtained with a conventional 3-step bonding system. It was found that self-etching primers not only reduce the chair time in an orthodontist's clinic but also reduce the amount of enamel lost during etching. The bond strength achieved was less than that of the conventional bonding system but was acceptable for orthodontic purposes. Thus self-etching primers are an important and useful invention for simplifying the most critical step in orthodontic clinic- bonding.

Book An in Vitro Study of the Effects of Physical Plasma on the Bonding of Orthodontic Brackets Can Etching be Replaced

Download or read book An in Vitro Study of the Effects of Physical Plasma on the Bonding of Orthodontic Brackets Can Etching be Replaced written by Mostafa Alzahar and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Objectives: This study investigates the effectiveness of the Cold AP on the alteration of the enamel surface without using acid etchant by using Conventional photo-activated resin bond to bond the orthodontic brackets. Materials and Methods: One hundred and twenty-five Enamel specimens are prepared from disinfected bovine mandibular incisors are divided into five groups. Group I: brackets are attached on the enamel surface with the standard adhesive technique (etch + primer +bond). Group II: the brackets are attached with the Standard Orthodontic adhesive technique without etching. Group III: the enamel surface is conditioned with pure Argon Cold atmospheric plasma before the application of the primer without using an acid etchant. Group IV: the enamel surface is conditioned with the admixture of Argon Cold atmospheric plasma with 0.5 % Oxygen before the application of the primer without using acid etchant Group V: after the application of Argon Cold atmospheric plasma with 0.5 % Oxygen the surface is rewetted by deionized water before the application of the primer and adhesive. After that, the samples are exposed to thermal cycling. The shear bond strength of the samples is tested by the universal testing machine which measured the maximum force at which the brackets are deboned from the tooth surface at a speed of 1mm/minute is measured. Results: Significant intergroup differences were found. Group V showed the highest shear bond strength followed by Group I, VI, III, II ...

Book In Vitro Bond Strength of Orthodontic Brackets and Resin Composite Cement Degree of Conversion as a Function of Pre cure Temperature

Download or read book In Vitro Bond Strength of Orthodontic Brackets and Resin Composite Cement Degree of Conversion as a Function of Pre cure Temperature written by David Richard Ries and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets and corresponding resin composite cement degree of conversion as function of pre-cure temperature. Orthodontic brackets were bonded to paired maxillary premolars or mandibular third molars in an environmental chamber with either room temperature (control) or warmed (68°C) resin cement. Bonding was followed immediately by shear testing of the bracket/cement/tooth interface. Residual resin cement on the bracket base was evaluated using micro-Raman spectroscopy to measure the degree of conversion of the cement from ratios of spectral peak heights at 1610cm−1 and 1640cm−1. Results showed no difference in shear bond strength or degree of conversion between room temperature and pre-warmed groups. Also, there was no difference in bond strength between premolar and third molar groups. The evidence suggests that pre-warming resin composite cement is not beneficial for increasing shear bond strength.

Book A Standardized Approach to Determine the Effect of Thermocycling and Long Term Storage on the Shear Bond Strength of Orthodontic Brackets Cemented to Bovine Enamel

Download or read book A Standardized Approach to Determine the Effect of Thermocycling and Long Term Storage on the Shear Bond Strength of Orthodontic Brackets Cemented to Bovine Enamel written by Raj-Deep Singh Mahal and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1980's, direct bonding became a routine clinical procedure. Current literature on the effects of thermocycling on bond strength is equivocal. This is largely due to a lack of a universally accepted standardized technique to examine the effects of thermocycling on orthodontic bond strength. As a result, differences in testing methodology between laboratories and investigators within the same laboratory make it difficult to directly compare data from thermocycling studies. The aims of this study were (1) to show that the testing method developed at the University of Toronto is independent of the investigator; (2) to determine the effect of thermocycling on the shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets bonded to bovine enamel; (3) to determine the effect of long term storage on the mean shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets bonded to bovine enamel; (4) to examine the bond failure interface in order to determine if a relationship exists between thermocycling and the location of the cement after debonding; (5) to examine the bond failure interface in order to determine if a relationship exists between long term storage and the location of the cement after debonding.
