Book An Experimental Study of Turbulent Skin Friction Reduction in Supersonic Flow Using a Microblowing Technique

Download or read book An Experimental Study of Turbulent Skin Friction Reduction in Supersonic Flow Using a Microblowing Technique written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-06-15 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new turbulent skin friction reduction technology, called the microblowing technique has been tested in supersonic flow (Mach number of 1.9) on specially designed porous plates with microholes. The skin friction was measured directly by a force balance and the boundary layer development was measured by a total pressure rake at the tailing edge of a test plate. The free stream Reynolds number was 1.0(10 exp 6) per meter. The turbulent skin friction coefficient ratios (C(sub f)/C(sub f0)) of seven porous plates are given in this report. Test results showed that the microblowing technique could reduce the turbulent skin friction in supersonic flow (up to 90 percent below a solid flat plate value, which was even greater than in subsonic flow). Book A Study of Micro blowing Technique

Download or read book A Study of Micro blowing Technique written by Nam Suk Choi and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A skin friction reduction method called the Micro-blowing Technique was used to study the reduction of profile drag on a symmetrical airfoil. A two-dimensional symmetrical airfoil, the UTIAS-MBT model, was designed and built at UTIAS to verify the reduction of the profile drag. The momentum deficit method, more commonly known as the wake traverse, was utilized to measure the profile drag of the model at zero angle of attack. When air was blown through the micro voids of the porous plate, the drag of the model was effectively reduced. Maximum profile drag reduction of approximately 6% was observed with the current blowing system. Further studies of the Micro-blowing technique are needed to fully investigate the profile drag reduction.

Book Aerodynamic Drag Reduction Technologies

Download or read book Aerodynamic Drag Reduction Technologies written by Peter Thiede and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ------------------------------------------------------------ This volume contains the Proceedings of the CEAS/DragNet European Drag Reduction Conference held on 19-21 June 2000 in Potsdam, Germany. This conference, succeeding the European Fora on Laminar Flow Technology 1992 and 1996, was initiated by the European Drag Reduction Network (DragNet) and organised by DGLR under the auspice of CEAS. The conference addressed the recent advances in all areas of drag reduction research, development, validation and demonstration including laminar flow technology, adaptive wing concepts, turbulent and induced drag reduction, separation control and supersonic flow aspects. This volume which comprises more than 40 conference papers is of particular interest to engineers, scientists and students working in the aeronautics industry, research establishments or academia.
