Book Neutron Spectrometry Using CR 39 Track Etch Detectors

Download or read book Neutron Spectrometry Using CR 39 Track Etch Detectors written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Track-size distributions were measured for chemically etched CR-39 foils exposed to monoenergetic neutrons with energies ranging from 0.144 to 19 MeV and to various broad spectrum neutron sources including spontaneous fission neutrons from 238Pu. These tracks are due to energetic charged particles resulting from interactions of the neutrons with the CR-39. After etching the tracks are visible with an optical microscope and vary in size and configuration depending on the particle, energy and angle of incidence. The foils were analyzed using an automatic analysis system that scans the foils, identifies valid tracks and records the track-size parameters. The track-size distributions vary with neutron energy and with the hardness of the broad spectrum sources. The distribution from the 238Pu fission source is readily distinguishable from the other sources measured and from distributions due to background.

Book Neutron Spectra Evaluation Obtained from the Track size Distribution on Electrochemically Etched CR 39 Foils

Download or read book Neutron Spectra Evaluation Obtained from the Track size Distribution on Electrochemically Etched CR 39 Foils written by and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are studying the relationship between neutron energy and track-size distribution on electrochemically etched CR-39 foils using a two-stage etching procedure. Although the electrochemical etching process alters the track size, we now find that the track diameter is related to the neutron energy even after the second stage (blowup) is completed. This relationship is complex, being effected by the etching parameters, including oven temperature, etching high voltage, and etching time. Current studies are directed at establishing the effect of each of these parameters on the track-size distribution and at determining an optimal etching procedure for neutron spectra evaluation. If neutron spectral information can be determined from the track-size distribution, dose can be calculated directly from the neutron fluence and spectrum.

Book Experimental neutron resonance spectroscopy

Download or read book Experimental neutron resonance spectroscopy written by J Harvey and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental Neutron Resonance Spectroscopy deals with the experimental technique of neutron resonance spectroscopy. Pulsed accelerator time-of-flight spectrometers and gamma rays from neutron capture in resonances are discussed. Total neutron cross section measurements are presented, along with neutron scattering and capture cross-section measurements and measurements on fissile nuclides. This book is comprised of five chapters and begins with an introduction to pulsed accelerator time-of-flight spectrometers with moderated continued neutron spectra, together with the pulsed Van De Graaff. Experimental techniques used for neutron cross section measurements, including detectors and data acquisition equipment, are then outlined. Scattering measurements and capture measurements as well as gamma-ray spectra from the capture of neutrons in resonances are considered. The final chapter focuses on the detailed and varied experiments that have been performed on the complicated fission process, together with the parameters of the resonances of the fissile nuclides. This monograph will be a useful resource for spectroscopists and physicists.

Book Neutron Spectrometry

Download or read book Neutron Spectrometry written by Robert S. Sanna and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements of neutron spectra with nuclear emulsion at various distances from a 14 MeV neutron source were made at the Nevada Test Site during Operation HENRE. These measurements and supplementary ones made using the neutron flux integrator developed at the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory, and a version of Bonner's spectrometer, are compared with theoretical calculations. Overall agreement was found to be good.
