Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Essay in Refutation of Atheism It is not without some misgiving that I present the following essay to the public; not, indeed, because I have any lack of confidence in the soundness of its principles, or the combined analytical and synthetic processes by which I attempt to demonstrate the existence of God, the fact of creation, providence, the moral law, and the ground of man's moral obligation to worship God; but from a consciousness of my inability to do justice to the great thesis I have undertaken to defend, and my distrust of the disposition of the public to receive and read with patience what is most likely to be treated as a metaphysical disquisition, and therefore as worthless. Nobody now reads metaphysical works, or any works that pertain to the higher philosophy, and especially such as attempt to vindicate theology as the science of sciences. All I can say is, that my essay is not metaphysical in the ordinary acceptation of the term, does not attempt to construct a science of abstractions, which are null, and deals only with concretes, with realities. Some of the problems, and the analyses by which I attempt to solve them, may be regarded as abstruse, difficult, and foreign from the ordinary current of thought, as all such discussions must necessarily be; but I have done my best to make my statements and reasonings clear and distinct, plain and intelligible to men of ordinary understanding and intellectual culture. Book Short Essays in Refutation of Agnosticism Atheism and Materialism Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2017-12-26 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Short Essays in Refutation of Agnosticism, Atheism, and Materialism The object of the writer of the following short Essays is to place the subject of Infidelity in so plain and concise a form before the minds of general readers, as to make it easy for those who have not time nor opportunity to read books on the subject, of more extensive and elaborate form. If my design in this, my first effort, adds to the defence of Truth against Error and Atheism, I will feel myself highly gratified that I have given a helping hand to the active ministers of the Gospel, and friends of Divine truth. I have mentioned some of the ancient Greek philosophers on purpose to show the difference and contrast between them and modern Darwinian Agnostics and Positivists of the present time, and that the ancient Greeks were men of higher and purer conceptions of thought than the Free thinkers of the present day, although they lived in darker times. Download or read book Catholic Realism written by Sebastian Mahfood and published by Proving Press. This book was released on 2015-01-01 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atheism is in revival. Many in the 21st Century lack a belief in a supernatural Creator. This requires an emboldened response from those who also live by faith, doing what God has called them to do, and not through their five senses alone (2 Corinthians 5:7). As Pope Benedict XVI said in his January 9, 2013, audience, "The event of the Incarnation, of God who became man, like us, shows us the daring realism of divine love." Those of us who 'see' that daring realism are called to share it with others, and that is the idea behind this book called Catholic Realism. As Catholics, we can share a response based on revelation and interpreted by the Magisterium, but that will not satisfy the atheist. Indeed, it does not satisfy many who believe the Gospel message is true but do not live faith-filled lives. For that reason, a philosophical response is a necessary pre-evangelization tool. This book is designed to assist the everyday evangelist in developing such a tool.

Book No Apology Necessary Atheism Refuted Eternal Causal Intelligence Affirmed A Comprehensive Compendium of Intelligent Refutations to Atheism

This book was released on 2018-11-15 with total page 533 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains my writings, other apologetics writers, top scientists, thinkers, and scholars on the topics of Ontology, Evolutionary Theory, Theology, Biogenesis, Quantum Physics, Philosophy, Science, Physics, Scientism, and Epistemology, pertaining to the core topic of Refutations to Atheistic Materialism. Crucial to consider is the idea that it is not any one refutation or data point of evidence pointing to the plausibility of there being an Eternal Causal Intelligence that creates a case for the strong possibility of such an Eternal Causal Intelligence...a Creator. Rather, it is the summation of ALL such robust data points and proofs that culminates in an over-arching and inescapable conclusion that such a Creator is not only highly plausible, and therefore worthy of serious scientific, philosophic, and theological consideration, but moreover, to reject such a conclusion, based upon the cumulative data is tantamount to an overt confession of scientific malpractice and a glaring Naturalism biases.

Book excerpt: Despite the prevalence of religious belief in the United States (nearly 200 million Americans belong to 350,000 congregations), a growing minority (14 percent) of U.S. adults identify with no religion whatsoever. Journalist James A. Haught addresses the secular segment of American society in this interesting collection of incisive essays that give voice to honest doubts about religious beliefs. Taken together, Haught''s essays endorse the idea that freedom of religion must include freedom to doubt as well as to believe. Individually, the articles present many different reasons to doubt: - Intellectual integrity demands that we express doubts about beliefs for which there is no scientific evidence.- The historical record, past and present, shows that religion is often the cause of evils, from the Inquisition and the burning of witches to current terrorist violence committed in the name of religion.- Natural evils, such as the 2004 Asian tsunami and devastating diseases, should make any thoughtful person question whether an all-powerful and all-merciful God governs the universe.- The sheer number and diversity of often-conflicting belief systems raise serious doubts about the philosophical coherence of religion as an approach to finding the truth.- Scandals among the clergy undermine the credibility of religion as a sound basis for morality.Written in a straightforward conversational style that makes clear the many scientific, philosophical, and ethical difficulties that plague religion, Haught''s thought-provoking essays will appeal to atheists, agnostics, and anyone with questions about religion.

Book God Is Dead and I Don t Feel So Good Myself

Download or read book God Is Dead and I Don t Feel So Good Myself written by Andrew David and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this pertinent and engaging volume leading Christian philosophers, theologians, and writers from all over the denominational map explode the black-and-white binaries that characterize both sides of the New Atheism debate. They transcend the self-assured shouting matches of this latest expression of the culture wars by engaging in rigorous, polychromatic Christian reflection that considers the extent to which the atheistic critique-both new and old-might help the church move toward a more mature faith, authentic spirituality, charitable witness, and peaceable practice. With generous openness and ferocious wit, this collection of essays, interviews, memoir, poetry, and visual art-including contributions from leading intellectuals, activists, and artists such as Stanley Hauerwas, Charles Taylor, John Milbank, Stanley Fish, Luci Shaw, Paul Roorda, Merold Westphal, and D. Stephen Long-provides substantive analysis, incisive critique, and a hopeful way forward for Christian dialog with atheist voices.
