Book Electrochemical Study of the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction on Nickel palladium phosphorous Amorphous Metal Alloys for Use in Alkaline Hydrogen Systems

Download or read book Electrochemical Study of the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction on Nickel palladium phosphorous Amorphous Metal Alloys for Use in Alkaline Hydrogen Systems written by Colin John Cochran and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The electrochemical study of the behaviour of Ni-Pd-P amorphous metal alloys was performed for the hydrogen evolution reaction. Crystalline nickel along with the (Ni95Pd5)80P20 , (Ni90Pd10)80P20, (Ni 85Pd15)80P20, and (Ni80Pd 20)80P20 amorphous metal alloys were tested in 1 M KOH at 30°C. The (Ni95Pd5)80P 20 amorphous metal alloy was tested in 3, 5, and 7 M KOH at 30°C and in 1 M KOH at 15, 45, and 70°C. The activity of the HER was determined using 'steady state' (Tafel) polarization tests. Polarization tests were performed on as-polished nickel and amorphous metal alloys, and on nickel and amorphous metal alloy electrodes activated by cyclic voltammetry. Scanning electron microscopy was used to study the changes in surface morphologies of the crystalline nickel and Ni-Pd-P amorphous metal alloys. (Abstract shortened by UMI.).

Book Electrochemistry for Corrosion Fundamentals

Download or read book Electrochemistry for Corrosion Fundamentals written by Toshiaki Ohtsuka and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brief is concerned with the fundamentals of corrosion of metallic materials and electrochemistry for better understanding of corrosion phenomena. Corrosion is related to both the environment and material properties, induced by electrochemical reactions at the interface between metallic materials and the environment as in aqueous and gaseous phases. In order to understand corrosion phenomena, knowledge of electrochemistry is thus required, and to investigate the cause of corrosion damage, appropriate electrochemical experiments must be performed. Corrosion scientists should therefore possess knowledge of both electrochemistry and its related experimental techniques. In this book, corrosion phenomena are introduced from the electrochemical aspect. Electrochemical techniques for the study of corrosion are then described with other techniques that can be combined with electrochemistry. Because this brief is characterized as starting with the fundamentals of corrosion and electrochemistry, it is accessible to undergraduate students as well as to graduate students who are beginning corrosion research.

Book Synthesis and Electrochemical Study of Palladium based Nanomaterials for Green Energy Applications

Download or read book Synthesis and Electrochemical Study of Palladium based Nanomaterials for Green Energy Applications written by Cassandra Kelly Ostrom and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Rising global energy consumption leads to increased environmental impacts. The continued use of current energy resources, e.g. fossil fuels, will exaggerate the cumulative nature of CO2 byproduct emissions in the atmosphere. The development and implementation of a hydrogen economy, as a solution to offset degradative environmental impacts, will likely enable opportunities for maintaining or improving standards of living while significantly lowering carbon emissions. Palladium has proven to be a strong contender as an enabling material that encompasses many aspects of a prospective hydrogen economy, lending promise to applications such as hydrogen purification, storage and fuel cell catalysis. In my M.Sc. study, Pd-based nanomaterials have been synthesized and examined for their applications in hydrogen storage and fuel cell catalysis. The surface properties of synthesized Pd-based nanomaterials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray Photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and N2 gas adsorption/desorption.

Download or read book Electrocrystallization written by Alexander Milchev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Electrocrystallization is a particular case of a first order phase transition” and “Electrocrystallization is a particular case of electrochemical kinetics” are two statements that I have heard and read many times. I do not like them for a simple reason: it is annoying to see that the subject to which you have devoted more than 30 years of your life may be considered as a “particular case”. Therefore, I decided to write this book in which Electrocrystallization is the main subject. To become competent in the field of Electrocrystallization one should possess knowledge of Electrochemistry, Nucleation and Crystal Growth, which means knowledge of Physical Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. That is certainly difficult and in most cases those who study Electrocrystallization are either more electrochemists, or more physical chemists, or more physicists, very often depending on whom has been their teacher. Of course, there are scientists who consider themselves equally good in all those fields. Very frequently they are, unfortunately, equally bad. The difference is essential but strange enough, it is sometimes not easy to realize the truth immediately.

Book ELECTROCHEMICAL BEHAVIOR OF A PALLADIUM HYDROGEN DIFFUSION ELECTRODE

Download or read book ELECTROCHEMICAL BEHAVIOR OF A PALLADIUM HYDROGEN DIFFUSION ELECTRODE written by and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrochemical studies on palladium hydrogen diffusion electrodes indicate that sufficiently high current densities can be achieved making their use as fuel cell hydrogen electrodes practically feasible. Using a palladium oxide catalyst, formed by heating the electrode in air at 600 deg C, maximum current densities of 75 ma/sq. cm at a solution temperature of 24 deg C and 140 ma/sq. cm at 43.5 deg C were achieved.
