Download or read book An Automated Low Cloud Prediction System written by Edward B. Geisler and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the Air Force Geophysics Laboratory (AFGL) Weather Test Facility (WTF) at Otis AFB, MA, a network of cloud base height, visibility, and wind measuring instruments were used to explore techniques for the short range prediction of low cloud ceiling. AFGL developed this system in response to the USAF Air Weather Service's requirements to modernize its basic weather support capabilities. This system allowed AFGL to evaluate the ability of statistical forecasting techniques to provide decision assistance significantly improved over the decision assistance currently provided by climatology and persistence. The approach relies upon the use of a hierarchical clustering algorithm to transform the raw cloud base height data into an automated low cloud observation. Four prediction techniques (Regression Estimation of Event Probabilities, Equivalent Markov, climatology, and persistence) yielding probability estimates of low cloud ceiling were evaluated and comparisons made to determine their respective accuracy and reliability. In addition, thresholding techniques were used to convert probability forecasts (unit bias, maximum probability, iterative, and persistence). Analysis of the data collected at the AFGL WTF demonstrates the accuracy and reliability of the automated low cloud prediction system. Regression estimation of event probabilities provided accurate, reliable, high resolution probability forecasts with results superior to climatology, persistence, and Equivalent Markov.

Download or read book Aviation Turbulence written by Robert Sharman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-27 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anyone who has experienced turbulence in flight knows that it is usually not pleasant, and may wonder why this is so difficult to avoid. The book includes papers by various aviation turbulence researchers and provides background into the nature and causes of atmospheric turbulence that affect aircraft motion, and contains surveys of the latest techniques for remote and in situ sensing and forecasting of the turbulence phenomenon. It provides updates on the state-of-the-art research since earlier studies in the 1960s on clear-air turbulence, explains recent new understanding into turbulence generation by thunderstorms, and summarizes future challenges in turbulence prediction and avoidance.

Download or read book Automated Workflow Scheduling in Self Adaptive Clouds written by G. Kousalya and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-25 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely text/reference presents a comprehensive review of the workflow scheduling algorithms and approaches that are rapidly becoming essential for a range of software applications, due to their ability to efficiently leverage diverse and distributed cloud resources. Particular emphasis is placed on how workflow-based automation in software-defined cloud centers and hybrid IT systems can significantly enhance resource utilization and optimize energy efficiency. Topics and features: describes dynamic workflow and task scheduling techniques that work across multiple (on-premise and off-premise) clouds; presents simulation-based case studies, and details of real-time test bed-based implementations; offers analyses and comparisons of a broad selection of static and dynamic workflow algorithms; examines the considerations for the main parameters in projects limited by budget and time constraints; covers workflow management systems, workflow modeling and simulation techniques, and machine learning approaches for predictive workflow analytics. This must-read work provides invaluable practical insights from three subject matter experts in the cloud paradigm, which will empower IT practitioners and industry professionals in their daily assignments. Researchers and students interested in next-generation software-defined cloud environments will also greatly benefit from the material in the book.

Download or read book Resource Management on Distributed Systems written by Shikharesh Majumdar and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-11-20 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive guide to the principles, algorithms, and techniques underlying resource management for clouds, big data, and sensor-based systems. Resource Management on Distributed Systems provides helpful guidance on resource management questions by describing algorithms and techniques for managing resources on parallel and distributed systems, including grids, clouds, and parallel processing-based platforms for big data analytics. The book introduces four general principles of resource management with a discussion of their impact on system performance, energy usage, and cost, and includes a set of exercises at the end of a chapter. To provide extensive coverage of the subject, the text includes chapters on sensors, autoscaling on clouds, complex event processing for streaming data, and data filtering techniques for big data systems. The book also covers results of applying the discussed techniques on simulated as well as real systems (including clouds and big data processing platforms), and techniques for handling errors associated with user predicted task execution times. Written by a highly qualified academic with significant research experience in the field, Resource Management on Distributed Systems includes information on sample topics such as: Attributes of parallel/distributed applications that have an intimate relationship with system behavior and performance, plus their related performance metrics. Handling a lack of a prior knowledge of local operating systems on individual nodes in a large system. Detection and management of complex events (that correspond to the occurrence of multiple raw events) on a platform for streaming analytics. Techniques for reducing data latency for multiple operator-based queries in an environment processing large textual documents. With comprehensive coverage of core topics in the field, Resource Management on Distributed Systems is a comprehensive guide to resource management in a single publication and is an essential read for professionals, researchers and students working with distributed systems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents selected papers from the 5th International Conference on Inventive Systems and Control (ICISC 2021), held on 7–8 January 2021 at JCT College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, India. The book includes an analysis of the class of intelligent systems and control techniques that utilises various artificial intelligence technologies, where there are no mathematical models and systems available to make them remain controlled. Inspired by various existing intelligent techniques, the primary goal is to present the emerging innovative models to tackle the challenges faced by the existing computing and communication technologies. The proceedings of ICISC 2021 aim at presenting the state-of-the-art research developments, trends, and solutions for the challenges faced by the intelligent systems and control community with the real-world applications. The included research articles feature the novel and unpublished research works on intelligent system representation and control.
