Book Atlas of Comparative Sectional Anatomy of 6 invertebrates and 5 vertebrates

Download or read book Atlas of Comparative Sectional Anatomy of 6 invertebrates and 5 vertebrates written by Géza Zboray and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-02-04 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This atlas contains 189 coloured images taken from transversal, horizontal and sagittal sections of eleven organisms widely used in university teaching. Six invertebrate and five vertebrate species – from the nematode worm (Ascaris suum) to mammals (Rattus norvegicus) – are shown in detailed images. Studying the macrosections with unaided eyes, with a simple magnifier or binocular microscope might be of great help to accomplish traditional anatomical studies and to establish a certain spatial experience/space perception. This volume will be of great interest for biology students, researchers and teachers of comparative anatomy. It might act as supporting material of practical courses. Furthermore, medical practitioners, agricultural specialists and researchers having an interest in comparative anatomy might also benefit from it.

Book The Visual System in Vertebrates

Download or read book The Visual System in Vertebrates written by F. Crescitelli and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 816 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vertebrate eye has been, and continues to be, an object of interest and of inquiry for biologists, physicists, chemists, psychologists, and others. Quite apart from its important role in the development of ophthalmology and related medical disciplines, the vertebrate eye is an exemplar of the ingenuity of living systems in adapting to the diverse and changing environments in which vertebrates have evolved. The wonder is not so much that the visual system, like other body systems, has been able to adapt in this way, but rather that these adaptations have taken such a variety of forms. In a previous volume in this series (VII/I) Eakin expressed admiration for the diversity of invertebrate photoreceptors. A comparable situation exists for the vertebrate eye as a whole and one object of this volume is to present to the reader the nature of this diversity. One result of this diversification of ocular structures and properties is that the experimental biologist has available a number of systems for study that are unique or especially favorable for the investigation of particular questions in visual science or neurobiology. This volume includes some examples of progress made by the use of such specially selected vertebrate systems. It is our hope that this comparative approach will continue to reveal new and useful preparations for the examination of important questions.

Book An Atlas of Comparative Vertebrate Histology

Download or read book An Atlas of Comparative Vertebrate Histology written by Donald B. McMillan and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2018-06-04 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atlas of Comparative Vertebrate Histology looks at the histology of a wide range of vertebrates, representative of all the major classes and families, with examples ranging from amphioxus to primates. The authors focus their microscope on commonly seen vertebrates as well as ‘non-standard’ species, such as lamprey, hagfish, dogfish, skate, rock bass, cod, river catfish, toad, amphiuma, leopard and bull frog, garter and brown snake, Coturnix quail and cowbird. The study of comparative histology in the vertebrates helps students and researchers alike understand how various groups have addressed similar problems, opening doors to interesting research possibilities. Not all vertebrates follow the mammalian model of tissue and organ structure. When dealing with unique species, we see some structures taken beyond their ‘normal’ function. Comparative histology allows us to understand the structural responses underlying the physiology unique to each vertebrate group. Presents the histology of a wide range of vertebrates, representative of all the major classes and families, with examples ranging from amphioxus to primates Includes an image gallery with over 500 flat images and 50+ virtual microscopy slides Contains electronic content features cross linking between text, tables and the image gallery

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comparative Anatomy Atlas presents illustrations on the body structures of different species of animals. The book first presents drawings on Squalus acanthias, including dorsal, ventral, and posterior views of the chondrocranium, cross and sagittal sections of the trunk and caudal vertebrae, dorsal, pectoral, and caudal fins, and axial musculature. The publication also shows drawings on Nectums macuhsus, as well as ventral view of the shoulder and pelvic girdle, anterior and lateral views of the thoracic, sacral, and caudal vertebrae, dorsal and ventral views of the anterior musculature, and ventral view of the heart and efferent vessels. The manuscript offers drawings on Felis domesticus, including lateral and medial views of the muscles of the hind limb, lateral view of the rib cage, dorsal and ventral views of the skull and cervical vertebrae, and ventral view of male and female urogenital systems. The book is a dependable reference for readers interested in comparative anatomy.

Book Colour Atlas of Vertebrate Anatomy

Download or read book Colour Atlas of Vertebrate Anatomy written by Gillian M King and published by Wiley-Blackwell. This book was released on 1991-01-15 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an introduction to comparative vertebrate anatomy for biology undergraduates. The information is presented in the form of colour photographs of step-by-step dissection stages, integrated with a text on comparative anatomy. Dissection plays an important part in understanding the anatomy of an animal and this book has been designed to make full use of the wealth of information made available through dissection. The accompanying text aims to outline the evolutionary and functional aspects of the anatomy revealed in the photographs and an additional text gives clear instructions on the execution of the dissections
