Book An Approach to Implement Kahn s Technique with Dynamic Power Supply

Download or read book An Approach to Implement Kahn s Technique with Dynamic Power Supply written by Sowjanya Kommu and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radio-frequency power amplifiers are an integral part of today's communication systems. Primary importance is given to improve its efficiency and linearity, which are required for the effective signal transmission. Three main architectures on which, the efficiency of communication systems are based on are: (a) Kahn's technique, (b) Doherty's power amplifiers, and (c) Cheireix out-phasing modulation. Several schemes to implement these techniques exist in literature and their study is very diverse. In this thesis, a detailed literature survey on these techniques is presented, which includes their operation, properties, advantages, disadvantages, and areas of potential applications. This main objective of this thesis is to adopt the Kahn's architecture and implement the various electrical blocks using the latest technology. The main building blocks of the described architecture are: AM/PM signal generator, amplitude detector, dynamic power supply, and a radio-frequency power amplifier. The circuit operation, properties, and circuit-level implementation of all these blocks are presented. The design of a pulse-width modulated buck dc-ac converter used as a dynamic power supply is given. The amplitude-modulated Class-D radio-frequency power amplifier is designed and its performance is evaluated. Each of the circuit-level implementations of the various blocks were designed, built, and simulated on SABER circuit simulator. A test audio signal with frequency 2.5 kHz is generated in the AM/PM signal generator block. A buck dynamic power supply operates at a fixed supply voltage of 25 V with its output voltage varying between 3 V to 23 V. The Class-D radio-frequency power amplifier is designed to generate a carrier frequency of 250 kHz. The efficiency of each stage was determined.

Book Design and Control of Matrix Converters

Download or read book Design and Control of Matrix Converters written by Anindya Dasgupta and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-30 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes two target applications for synchronous systems: regulated 3-phase voltage supply and voltage sag mitigation. It presents a detailed design procedure for converter switches and filters considering all steady-state, commutation and dynamic requirements. This work has evolved from previously published research by the authors, which in turn is part of a larger effort to expand the application domain of matrix converters to power systems. The objectives of the work have been categorized into the following: developing a dynamic model that provides adequate design insights; designing filters; and devising a control scheme. The low frequency dynamic model is first analyzed for regulated voltage supplies assuming balanced system. The system is modeled relative to a synchronous rotating (dq) frame linearized around an operating point. The input–output variables are related by non-diagonal transfer function matrices. Individual transfer function sub-matrices are sequentially investigated and it is shown that, depending on the input power, input voltage and filter parameters, the appearance of a set of right half zeros is possible. The book then considers filter design, as well as general issues like ripple attenuation, regulation, reactive current loading, and filter losses. The book also addresses additional constraints that may be imposed by dynamic requirements and commutation. In the third stage, voltage controller design is detailed for a 3-phase regulated voltage supply. In dq domain, output voltage control represents a multivariable control problem. This is reduced to a single variable control problem while retaining all possible right half zeros, thereby preserving the internal stability of the system. Consequently, the standard single variable control design technique has been used to design a controller. The analytically predicted dynamic response has been verified by experimental results. It was possible to operate the system beyond the critical power boundary where the right half zeros emerge. Lastly, the developed control approach has been extended to voltage sag mitigation with adequate modifications. A 3-wire linear load and both symmetrical and asymmetrical voltage sags have been considered. Experimentally obtained response time for sag mitigation was found to be less than the power supply holdup time of most of the sensitive equipment. This book will be useful to both researchers and graduate students.

Book Designing TSVs for 3D Integrated Circuits

Download or read book Designing TSVs for 3D Integrated Circuits written by Nauman Khan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-22 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the challenges and presents best strategies for designing Through-Silicon Vias (TSVs) for 3D integrated circuits. It describes a novel technique to mitigate TSV-induced noise, the GND Plug, which is superior to others adapted from 2-D planar technologies, such as a backside ground plane and traditional substrate contacts. The book also investigates, in the form of a comparative study, the impact of TSV size and granularity, spacing of C4 connectors, off-chip power delivery network, shared and dedicated TSVs, and coaxial TSVs on the quality of power delivery in 3-D ICs. The authors provide detailed best design practices for designing 3-D power delivery networks. Since TSVs occupy silicon real-estate and impact device density, this book provides four iterative algorithms to minimize the number of TSVs in a power delivery network. Unlike other existing methods, these algorithms can be applied in early design stages when only functional block- level behaviors and a floorplan are available. Finally, the authors explore the use of Carbon Nanotubes for power grid design as a futuristic alternative to Copper.
