Book Handbook On Timoshenko ehrenfest Beam And Uflyand Mindlin Plate Theories

Download or read book Handbook On Timoshenko ehrenfest Beam And Uflyand Mindlin Plate Theories written by Isaac E Elishakoff and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2019-10-29 with total page 798 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The refined theory of beams, which takes into account both rotary inertia and shear deformation, was developed jointly by Timoshenko and Ehrenfest in the years 1911-1912. In over a century since the theory was first articulated, tens of thousands of studies have been performed utilizing this theory in various contexts. Likewise, the generalization of the Timoshenko-Ehrenfest beam theory to plates was given by Uflyand and Mindlin in the years 1948-1951.The importance of these theories stems from the fact that beams and plates are indispensable, and are often occurring elements of every civil, mechanical, ocean, and aerospace structure.Despite a long history and many papers, there is not a single book that summarizes these two celebrated theories. This book is dedicated to closing the existing gap within the literature. It also deals extensively with several controversial topics, namely those of priority, the so-called 'second spectrum' shear coefficient, and other issues, and shows vividly that the above beam and plate theories are unnecessarily overcomplicated. In the spirit of Einstein's dictum, 'Everything should be made as simple as possible but not simpler,' this book works to clarify both the Timoshenko-Ehrenfest beam and Uflyand-Mindlin plate theories, and seeks to articulate everything in the simplest possible language, including their numerous applications. This book is addressed to graduate students, practicing engineers, researchers in their early career, and active scientists who may want to have a different look at the above theories, as well as readers at all levels of their academic or scientific career who want to know the history of the subject. The Timoshenko-Ehrenfest Beam and Uflyand-Mindlin Plate Theories are the key reference works in the study of stocky beams and thick plates that should be given their due and remain important for generations to come, since classical Bernoulli-Euler beam and Kirchhoff-Love theories are applicable for slender beams and thin plates, respectively.Related Link(s)

Book Appraisal of Method of Flutter Analysis Based on Chosen Modes by Comparison with Experiment for Cases of Large Mass Coupling

Download or read book Appraisal of Method of Flutter Analysis Based on Chosen Modes by Comparison with Experiment for Cases of Large Mass Coupling written by Donald S. Woolston and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results are presented for a series of flutter studies in which a Rayleigh type analysis based on chosen modes is applied to a uniform model wing carrying an arbitrarily placed concentrated weight in order to appraise the accuracy of the assumption of uncoupled modes of vibration. The results are compared with experiment.

Book Stochastic Analysis of Offshore Steel Structures

Download or read book Stochastic Analysis of Offshore Steel Structures written by Halil Karadeniz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-01 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stochastic Analysis of Offshore Steel Structures provides a clear and detailed guide to advanced analysis methods of fixed offshore steel structures using 3D beam finite elements under random wave and earthquake loadings. Advanced and up-to-date research results are coupled with modern analysis methods and essential theoretical information to consider optimal solutions to structural issues. As these methods require and use knowledge of different subject matters, a general introduction to the key areas is provided. This is followed by in-depth explanations supported by design examples, relevant calculations and supplementary material containing related computer programmers. By combining this theoretical and practical approach Stochastic Analysis of Offshore Steel Structures cover a range of key concepts in detail including: The basic principles of standard 3D beam finite elements and special connections, Wave loading - from hydrodynamics to the calculation of wave loading on structural members, Stochastic response calculations with corresponding solution algorithms including earthquakes, and Fatigue damage, reliability calculation and reliability based design optimization. The broad and detailed coverage makes this a solid reference for research oriented studies and practical sophisticated design methods. Students, researchers, insuring bodies and practical designer offices can turn to Stochastic Analysis of Offshore Steel Structures to broaden their theoretical understanding and develop their practical designs and applications of 3D finite analysis in fixed offshore steel structures.

Book The AFCRL 29 ft Millimeter wave Antenna

Download or read book The AFCRL 29 ft Millimeter wave Antenna written by L. M. Keane and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A general description of AFCRL's new 29-ft parabolic antenna is given. This antenna, designed for operation at 35 Gc, has Cassegrain feed optics and a precise reflecting surfdce supported on an elevation over azimuth mount. Design parameters include a gain of 67.5 dB at 35 Gc and a pointing capability of better than =1 arc min under 30-knot wind loads, normal solar loading, and peak accelerations of .012 deg/sq sec. The servo system was designed primarily to track objects traveling at sidereal rates. A limited satellite tracking capability should exist, however. Emphasis is given to engineering aspects of the tower, mount, drive system, and reflector assembly which should provide efficient rf operation and extreme precision in pointing. (Author).

Book Aerodynamic Properties of Cruciform wing and Body Combinations at Subsonic Transonic and Supersonic Speeds

Download or read book Aerodynamic Properties of Cruciform wing and Body Combinations at Subsonic Transonic and Supersonic Speeds written by John R. Spreiter and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 646 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aerodynamic forces and moments exerted on pitched and yawed wing-body combinations consisting of a slender body of revolution and a cruciform arrangement of thin wings have been investigated by two theoretical methods. One method, an extension of the slender wing-body theory of NACA TN No. 1662, makes possible the determination of simple closed expressions for the load distribution, of simple closed expressions for the load distribution, the forces, and the moments for slender cruciform-wing and body combinations in which the wings may be dissimilar plan form. The second method treats cruciform-wing and body combinations consisting of a body of revolution and identical wings of arbitrary aspect ratio and plan form. The results are valid at subsonic, transonic, and supersonic speeds.
