Book excerpt: “So long, Carrie Bradshaw—there’s a new role model for go-getting thirty-somethings. Gabrielle Bernstein is doling out inner peace and self-love for the postmodern spiritual set.”—Elle Foreword by Marianne Williamson Before she became a celebrated teacher and lecturer, Gabrielle Bernstein was going down a dangerous path. For years, Bernstein struggled with eating disorders, drug and alcohol abuse, and constant self-doubt and self-loathing. That all changed when she discovered A Course in Miracles, which taught her that much of what she feared in life was not frightening at all and, in many cases, not even real. Now, Bernstein lives an empowered, healthy, and joyful life. In Spirit Junkie, Bernstein guides readers through the life-changing lessons that shaped her spiritual journey: how we become accustomed to fearful ways of thinking, how to recognize and change those thought patterns to make way for bliss, and how to maintain our happiness and share it with the world. By understanding and changing our perceptions, hang-ups will melt away, resentments will release, and a childlike faith in joy will be reignited. Praise for Spirit Junkie “For those ready to give up their addiction to suffering or who simply need to release the general malaise of a too-busy, too shallow way of life, Spirit Junkie is a soothing balm for the soul. Gabrielle Bernstein is a brilliant shining guide for all who seek to have more love, more light and more miracles in their life.”—Arielle Ford, author of The Soulmate Secret

Download or read book An angel named Cin written by K.J. Franklin and published by K.J. Franklin. This book was released on 2021-08-04 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cinaxus is an angel who has been banished from heaven for failing to do his job as a reaper. He was a warrior who was accustomed to a life of fighting demons. When he was transferred to the duties of a reaper he was insulted, but he did what he was told. His failure was refusing to collect the soul of a human child. The story begins the night he was banished, but it takes place two hundred seventy-eight years after his banishment. Despite the religious undertones if you’re looking for a book about religion, this isn’t it. If graphic violence and coarse language offend you…. Read it anyway. There’s a lot of it, but you’ll probably get over it… Probably. An angel named Cin is a story with a colorful cast of characters. Some you’ll love, and some you might despise. It also features a new, and unique outlook on Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory. Once again this is not a book about religion. I can’t stress that enough. It’s a good mixture of adventure, horror, and comedy packed into a dark story. If any of these things interest you then this is the book for you. If you think it isn’t the book for you you’re wrong. You just don’t know it yet. It’s okay you’re forgiven.

The four feel a strange kinship from the moment they meet but do not suspect their importance. And none of them know just how Liliath plans to use them, as mere pawns in her plan, no matter the cost to everyone else . . . Fans of Cassandra Clare, Holly Black, and Leigh Bardugo will fall in love with Angel Mage, a feminist fantasy that takes place in an alternate European world ruled by fearsome magic and deadly passions. * PW Best Books 2019 * Bank Street College of Education Best Children's Book of the Year (2020) *

Book An Angel Named Sally and Two Guardian Angels

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a biography of two wonderful women who were instrumental in bringing public awareness for the mentally disabled in 1940s to 1980s and a little girl with Down syndrome. Irene Otteman and Margaret McQuiston dedicated their lives to making a better world for the mentally disabled. The story explains difficulties, challenges, and successes. It includes hopes, dreams, and emotional turmoil. It talks about lifestyle changes and how far society has come in recognizing those who are different. Programs the two started in Central Michigan include the Day Center, which was the first educational opportunity for mentally disabled children in Isabella County Michigan. (Education was not available before these two women became advocates for the mentally disabled.) A parent's association became part of the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center, also known as the State Home and Training School, because Margaret and Irene became involved. In addition, Irene was the first to suggest Central Michigan University Special Olympics and Devine Houses for the Disabled. The parent's association, Association of Interfaith Ministry, and Mid-Michigan Industries are all historical parts of those early beginnings. The world is a better place because of people like Irene and Margaret, who went the extra mile in helping those who couldn't help themselves.

Book Paradise Reconsidered in Gnostic Mythmaking

Download or read book Paradise Reconsidered in Gnostic Mythmaking written by Tuomas Rasimus and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2009-10-31 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a new understanding of Sethianism and the origins of Gnosticism by examining the mythology in and social reality behind a group of texts to which certain leaders of the early church occasionally attached the label ‘Ophite.’ In the unique Ophite mythology, which rewrites the Genesis paradise story and is attested, for example, in Irenaeus’ Adversus haereses 1.30, The Apocryphon of John and On the Origin of the World, the snake’s advice to eat of the tree of knowledge is considered positive, the creator and his angels are turned into demonic beasts and the true Godhead is presented as an androgynous heavenly projection of Adam and Eve. It is argued that Hans-Martin Schenke’s influential model of the ‘Sethian system’ only reveals part of a larger whole to which the Ophite material belongs as an important and organic component.

The severed head marked by a distinctive tattoo on its cheek should have been a Guild case, but dark instincts honed over hundreds of years of life compel the vampire Dmitri to take control. There is something twisted about this death, something that whispers of centuries long past…but Dmitri’s need to discover the truth is nothing to the vicious strength of his response to the hunter assigned to decipher the tattoo. Savaged in a brutal attack that almost killed her, Honor is nowhere near ready to come face to face with the seductive vampire who is an archangel’s right hand, and who wears his cruelty as boldly as his lethal sensuality…the same vampire who has been her secret obsession since the day she was old enough to understand the inexplicable, violent emotions he aroused in her. As desire turns into a dangerous compulsion that might destroy them both, it becomes clear the past will not stay buried. Something is hunting…and it will not stop until it brings a blood-soaked nightmare to life once more…

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question of evil presents a profound challenge to humanity—why do we do what we know to be wrong? This is especially a challenge to religious believers. Why doesn't an all-good and omnipotent God step in and put an end to evil? The Problem of Evil in the Western Tradition examines how Western thinkers have dealt with the problem of evil, starting in ancient Israel and tracing the question through post-biblical Judaism, Early Christianity (especially in Africa), the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Enlightenment, and to the twenty-first century when science has raised new and important issues. Joseph Kelly covers the book of Job, the book of Revelation, Augustine of Hippo, Aquinas, Luther, Marlow, Milton, Voltaire, Hume, Mary Shelley, Darwin, Jung, Flannery O'Connor, Karl Rahner, Teilhard de Chardin, and modern geneticists. Chapters are "Some Perspectives on Evil," "Israel and Evil," "The New Adam," "Out of Africa," "The Broken Cosmos," "The Middle Ages," "Decline and Reform of Humanism," "The Devil's Last Stand," "Rationalizing Evil," "The Attack on Christianity," "Dissident Voices," "Human Evil in the Nineteenth Century," "Science, Evil, and Original Sin," "Modern Literary Approaches to Evil," "Some Scientific Theories of Evil," and "Modern Religious Approaches to Evil."
