Book First Book on Analytic Anatomy Physiology and Hygiene Human and Comparative

This book was released on 2018-03-24 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from First Book on Analytic Anatomy, Physiology and Hygiene, Human and Comparative: For Common and Grammar Schools and for Families I'he treatment of some of the common ills of life of wounded, poisoned and asphyxiated persons, is briefly discussed in their appro prlate chapters. Another object in view has been to make the style clear, concise and adapted to the references made to illustrative figures, to teach the pupil the correct word, though it may be a technical term, believing it is best to use those terms which express the ideas that are peculiar to the study. As the study of objects is more simple and impressive than mere words, and as illustrations are more instructive, particularly to children, than written sentences, this work has been so arranged as to be used advantageously, with object study and topical instruction, especially with Outline Anatomical Charts, both human and comparative. As use is the test of a text-book, this manual is respectfully submitted to teachers and to patrons of schools. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elementary Physiology: Including Hygiene, a Brief Summary of Bacteriology, and an Outline of Means for Aiding the Injured, and Preventing Disease; For Advanced Grades The author has endeavored to state the essential facts of physiology in the clearest possible way, and to develop from these facts some practical rules of health. Great effort has been put forth to make a text easy to read and to understand. There is fuore anatomy than is usual for texts of this grade, but there is no adequate understand ing of the facts of physiology or the rules of hygiene without a fair knowledge of anatomy. Pains have been taken to explain fully the action of all important organs, so the most useful rules of hygiene may be clearlyr under stood and applied. As far as possible, technical terms have been omitted, and the matter of the text expressed in the language of the average pupil in the advanced grades. Technical terms, when used at all, are explained where first used. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Human Physiology written by John W. Ritchie and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Human Physiology: An Elementary Text-Book of Anatomy, Physiology, and Hygiene From a considerable experience with both very elementary and more advanced classes, the author has been led to certain con elusions in regard to the teaching of elementary physiology and hygiene. It is not proposed to enter here into a discussion of the correctness of these conclusions, but a brief statement of a few principles that seem fundamental may perhaps be allowable. The chief object of teaching physiology in the public schools is to train the pupils to keep their bodies in health. The mere teaching of anatomy and physiology will not accomplish this, for the pupil cannot master the structure and workings of the body in a way that will enable him to frame the laws of health and apply them. Neither can the desired end be reached by teach ing rules of health without an anatomical and physiological basis; for without such a basis, hygiene is an intangible and an elusive subject. The author has therefore concluded that a conservative middle course is wiser than either of the extremes of method mentioned above. An elementary text in physiology should be a balanced text, containing sufficient anatomy to make clear the broader outlines of the structure of the human body, enough physiology to make plain the great laws according to which the body lives, and a full discussion of how a violation of these laws may be avoided. For the introduction of certain new matter, as, for example, the cell idea, the work of enzymes, and matter relating to germ diseases, there is little need for explanation. The groundwork of physiology and pathology has in recent years so shifted and extended itself, that the subject-matter of an elementary course must to a considerable extent be altered if it is to furnish 3. Book Health Studies Applied Physiology and Hygiene Classic Reprint

Download or read book Health Studies Applied Physiology and Hygiene Classic Reprint written by Ernest Bryant Hoag and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Health Studies Applied Physiology and Hygiene Anatomy and physiology, except in their simple elements, are of doubtful value for young pupils. But the study of how to keep well, or hygiene, is something that every boy and girl, man and woman, must learn or else must suffer for his ignorance. Hygiene, properly presented. Deals with things of everyday life. No pupil in the schools is too young to begin to learn how to adjust himself successfully to his surroundings. This learning how to meet our environment, as Professor Huxley long ago said, constitutes a liberal education. Many of the school texts have been based too exclusively on physiology, or have dealt largely with elementary anatomy, and have been difficult of comprehension to the pupils. Health studies differs materially from such books. It makes hygiene the primary study, and introduces only a sufficient amount of physiology to form a sound basis for the study of health principles. If this small book succeeds in helping its readers to think for themselves; if it encourages them in making their own definitions; if it leads them to realize that it is not ignorance but knowledge which leads to health, and there fore happiness; and finally, if it helps to prepare them to meet practical life as they will find it, - then its appear ance will have been justified. Book First Book of Physiology and Hygiene Classic Reprint

Download or read book First Book of Physiology and Hygiene Classic Reprint written by Gertrude De Cathcart and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from First Book of Physiology and Hygiene When the author undertook the preparation of a little book in which the outlines of Physiology and Hygiene should be presented in a simple and attractive form, the task did not seem so difficult as it has proved to be. Feeling that some thing more was necessary than merely to string the manifold facts together, loosely like so many beads, an attempt was made to give them a more coherent form by grouping them round certain central ideas which made an appeal to the imagination. Such a method promised to arouse the interest of young readers, and at the same time to furnish them with a framework into which knowledge afterwards acquired could be fitted. Small though the measure of success in this direction may be, it is hoped that the book will be of some value to junior students. Simple language has been used throughout and technical terms have been avoided, so far as possible. The main ideas have been emphasized by a certain amount of repetition, which serves to impress them upon the mind and at the same time presents the subject in true perspective. It is a great pleasure to the author not only to express indebtedness to Prof. R. A. Gregory for his valuable advice and criticism, but also to offer sincere thanks to Mr. A. T. Simmons for his help and suggestions. Acknowledgment must also be made to the Delegates of Local Examinations, Oxford, and the Syndics of Local Examinations, Cambridge, for permission to print a selection of questions from papers set in their Examinations in Physiology and Hygiene. Book Anatomy Physiology Hygiene Classic Reprint

Download or read book Anatomy Physiology Hygiene Classic Reprint written by California State Board Of Education and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-07 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Anatomy, Physiology, Hygiene The facts of Anatomy and Physiology are put as sim ply and clearly as possible; something in the way of object lessons, with the child himself as an object. The pupil is encouraged to look in the fields and markets to see the truth of the statements made, and is constantly referred to the pictures that illustrate the text for a bet ter understanding. Common diseases are mentioned, and the habits that lead to them emphasized. The book is in two parts, because it seems wiser to learn the parts and uses of a machine before attempting to run it, and the dependence of the systems is so inti mate that a knowledge of all should precede an attempt to study the hygiene of any one. Book New Analytic Anatomy Physiology and Hygiene

Download or read book New Analytic Anatomy Physiology and Hygiene written by Calvin Cutter and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from New Analytic Anatomy, Physiology and Hygiene: Human and Comparative; For Colleges, Academies and Families; With Questions The solicitation of my publishers, and the request of many teachers, have induced me to review and remodel my schoolbook on Outline Anatomy, Physiology and Hygiene, adapting it to the advanced position of teachers, schools and the community. My former work was published in 1849, and thoroughly revised in 1852. Several hundred thousand copies of the revised edition have been published. It has been translated and published in five different languages, by the missionaries in Asia and Europe. In general arrangement, the present Treatise is modeled after the former. The aim has been to improve the analysis; to bring the Chemistry and Histology to the present advanced state of these sciences; to make the Anatomy and Physiology concise and definite, the Hygiene plain and practical; to introduce some Comparative Anatomy; and to furnish illustrating cuts, both apposite and artistic. I am under great obligation to Joseph Leidy, M.D., of Philadelphia, who kindly permitted the use of his original illustrating cuts from his very valuable work upon Human Anatomy; also to the works of Marshall and Owen, and other scientific men, whose writings have been quoted and opinions adopted.
