Book Children s Drawings of the Human Figure

Download or read book Children s Drawings of the Human Figure written by Maureen V. Cox and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-05-24 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The human figure is one of the earliest topics drawn by the young child and remains popular throughout childhood and into adolescence. When it first emerges, however, the human figure in the child's drawing is very bizarre: it appears to have no torso and its arms, if indeed it has any, are attached to its head. Even when the figure begins to look more conventional the child must still contend with a variety of problems: for instance, how to draw the head and body in the right proportions and how to draw the figure in action. In this book, Maureen Cox traces the development of the human form in children's drawings; she reviews the literature in the field, criticises a number of major theories which purport to explain the developing child's drawing skills and also presents new data.

Book Children Draw And Tell

Download or read book Children Draw And Tell written by Marvin Klepsch and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-05-22 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1988. Child therapists have long been fascinated by children's human figure drawings and what they reveal about self-image, feelings, and' family relation ships. Now this comprehensively researched volume provides a valuable introduction to using children's human figure drawings as projective measures in a variety of settings. The principles for interpreting drawings, as well as general and specific indicators, are illustrated in 85 children's drawings. Part I on The Theory deals with the background of projective psychology, discussing art as a projective technique and emphasizing that all behavior, including drawings, reflects personality, attitudes and values. The authors examine the major methods of obtaining diagnostic information and recommend the use of several methods for best results. Part II on The Application examines in detail the projective use of children's human figure drawings to evaluate personality, relationships (particularly in families), group values, and attitudes. In each area, research is presented, directions for administration of various tests are given, and guidelines for interpretation are offered. Significant factors are revealed in numerous children's drawings, accompanied by clinical comments. Of special interest is the presentation of original research on group values among Canadian Indian (Saskatchewan Cree) children and on attitudes of young children toward teachers, doctors and other authority figures as revealed in human figure drawings. For psychologists, social workers, teachers and other child-care professionals, as well as students in these fields, this is an indispensable basic guide to interpreting human figure drawings.

Download or read book Academic Paths written by Peter A. Keller and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2016-01-28 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the intimate autobiographies of 13 psychologists who work in academic settings. Their experiences are as diverse as their specializations and the academic institutions from which they come. However, all of the contributors have in common an infectious enthusiasm for their academic experiences and the unique opportunities provided by their careers. Psychology students often have only vague notions about the career experiences and personal lives of academic psychologists. The autobiographies in this book open special windows onto the lives of psychologists in academic settings. The contributions range from a description of experiences at a two-year community college through discussions of the demands at high powered doctoral-level research institutions. The authors offer intimate glimpses of experiences in their lives that paved the way to academia. Although this book is, in a sense, about career planning in academic settings, there is no pretense about it being a career planning guide. The editor's goal was to give readers some sense of what motivates academic psychologists and what their personal as well as professional lives are like. The editor also makes clear his belief that there is no single pathway to a successful academic career in psychology. Although each contributor describes what most would see as a successful career, the academic paths taken and the personal and professional rewards received are often quite different. This book will provide encouragement to students contemplating a career in academia as well as interesting reading for psychologists curious about what makes their academic colleagues tick.

Book Human Figure Drawing as a Measure of Self esteem

Download or read book Human Figure Drawing as a Measure of Self esteem written by Abby L. MacKinnel and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The construct of self-esteem is a significant aspect of an individual's sense of worth, thus shaping attitudes and behavior about the self. Projective art techniques can reflect the individual's self-concept in various ways. In the present study, the Human Figure Drawing (HFD) created by Koppitz (1968) was utilized to determine if the size of the drawn figure is an effective measure of self-esteem. Participants in this study included 47 undergraduate students. Figure height and area were measured from the HFD and self-esteem was measured by using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSSE; Rosenberg, 1965). It was expected that larger and taller figure drawings would correlate with higher self-esteem scores. Results for this studey were not significant, but other trends were noted. Individuals who scored in the high range for self-esteem were much more likely to include teeth in their figure drawings. Additionally, there were weak correlations noted in an exploratory analysis based on gender.

Book Self esteem Reflected in Human Figure Drawings by Learning Disabled Children

Download or read book Self esteem Reflected in Human Figure Drawings by Learning Disabled Children written by Andre Powell and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, human figure drawings scored using the Koppitz's (1968) emotional indicators were correlated with self-esteem measured using the Self-Perception Profile for Learning Disabled Students (SPP-LD; Renick & Harter, 1988). It was hypothesized that the number of emotional indicators would correlate negatively with self-concept as measured by the SPP-LD. Participants were fourteen 3rd and 4th grade males and females ranging in age from eight to eleven from a special education program. The participants completed the SPP-LD questionnaire and draw a human figure in a single group session. Results showed no statisically significant relationship between the number of emotional indicators present and SPP-LD scores.

Children as young as 6 are worrying about their shape and size. Body image is an important aspect of children’s self-esteem and confidence. More than 60 lively, varied and detailed lesson plans. Additional lessons on gender, social media and the selfie culture. An overview of research on the links between body image, academic achievement and emotional wellbeing. The evidence-based lessons in Body Image in the Primary School have been awarded the quality kitemark by the PSHE Association and highlighted by Ofsted as an example of excellent practice.
