Book An Analysis of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Governance in U S States Through Independent Energy Administrations

Download or read book An Analysis of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Governance in U S States Through Independent Energy Administrations written by Cheng-Hao Shih and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent United States energy efficiency and renewable energy (EERE) development has transformed state energy governance in the past decade. After restructuring, a new type of energy efficiency and renewable energy administration was established to coordinate resources and networks across state and local jurisdictions. Research into these administrations’ essential role in coordinating resources, information, and networks among stakeholders across sectors can improve our understanding of these new administrations and their network in the current state energy governance. ☐ This dissertation applied both qualitative and quantitative methods to study how independent state EERE administrations developed and collaborated with public sector, private sector, and civil society stakeholders on EERE programs and policies. The conceptual framework in the second chapter presents a general picture for state energy governance that centers on the independent state EERE administration and their governance networks, which include actors across different sectors of society. ☐ The quantitative analysis in the third chapter examines if there is a correlation between the presence of these state administrations and the adoption of new state EERE policies. I construct an Event History Analysis model to estimate the relationship between the presence of a state EERE administration and the adoption of Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) enabling legislation from 2008 to 2013. Results from the event history model show that the existence of a state EERE administration significantly correlated with PACE-enabling legislation adoption. ☐ The case study analyses in the fourth chapter illustrates a detailed governance network for the two independent state EERE administrations, The Energy Trust of Oregon and Efficiency Vermont, and discusses the purpose of their collaborations with different stakeholders for their program operations in each state. ☐ Both the quantitative and qualitative analyses contribute to conceptualizing the independent state EERE administration model and its governance network. By focusing on the independent EERE administration and explaining how this administration structure developed its network, this dissertation connects two strands of state-level energy governance research pertaining to energy administration structure and governance networks.

Book Sustainable Energy and the States

Download or read book Sustainable Energy and the States written by Dianne Rahm and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-11-18 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With America's dependence on fossil fuels painfully apparent due to world events and the resultant sharply rising gas prices, the search for renewable energy sources has never been more important. Still, the quest for sustainable energy is far from new. Since passage of the National Energy Act of 1978, states and the federal government have encouraged technological advances designed to make the United States self-sufficient when it comes to energy production. Government incentives and global-minded policymakers encourage development of alternative energy sources. While addressing the national issues of global climate change and energy security, the idea of sustainable energy must also find a way to appeal to an increasingly competitive market. Through nine case studies, this volume explores the roles which politics, market forces and leadership play as barriers or facilitators in the development of sustainable energy sources. Beginning with an overview of energy-related programs and legislation including the National Energy Act of 1978 and the Energy Policy acts of 1992 and 2005, the book discusses the various financial programs and policy mechanisms used by the states. Each of the nine essays examines sustainable energy development within a particular state or region. The importance of the political climate, the impact of free markets and the value of effective leadership with regard to this particular technological development remains a common thread. Topics such as the perceived effectiveness of state and federal governmental efforts and prevalent attitudes regarding renewable energy are also discussed. Each essay includes an in-depth bibliography with many website resources to encourage further research. Statistical tables are also provided. Instructors considering this book for use in a course may request an examination copy here.

Book The U S Government and Renewable Energy

Download or read book The U S Government and Renewable Energy written by Allan Hoffman and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-11-18 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book on how the U.S. and other governments have changed their thinking about energy issues over the past four decades, a change triggered by increasing concern about the role of fossil fuels in global warming and climate change, greater awareness of the risks of nuclear power, and the emergence of viable renewable energy sources. It will help understanding of how this change came about in the United States from the unique perspective of a well-placed participant and observer. It will enhance understanding of the global energy transition that is finally getting underway in the second decade of the 21st century at an accelerating, even dizzying, pace. The book’s main purpose is to illustrate how the U.S. government moved along its winding path to where it is today in getting ready for a renewable energy future. Target audiences are the young people who will inherit the transition and shape its future, those in government who currently shape our public policies, and those colleagues, friends, and family members who lived through many of the times and events discussed in the book.
