The Editors, Astle, Topham, and Morant, formed a considerable portion of their text from Ryley, from Hale's Transcripts in Lincoln's-inn Library, and from the Copy purchased of Mr. Tonson, corrected by the Originals; and they also added a Selection of Parliamentary matter found on the Patent and other Rolls, and also in public offices and private collections. Since 1765, numerous ancient Parliamentary Petitions, &c. Have been discovered by the diligence of the Keepers Of the Records in the Tower. These should be published; and as the deficiencies Of the edition of 1765 have been long recognized, (1) it appears necessary to proceed to a new edition, calculated to be a companion to the authentic edition Of the Statutes of the Realm.
