Book The ABC of Communism

Download or read book The ABC of Communism written by Nikolai Bukharin and published by Pattern Books. This book was released on 2021-04-08 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ABC of Communism is a book written by Nikolai Bukharin and Evgenii Preobrazhensky in 1919, during the Russian Civil War. Originally written to convince the proletariat of Russia to support the Bolsheviks, it became "an elementary textbook of communist knowledge". It became the best known and most widely circulated of all pre-Stalinist expositions of Bolshevism and the most widely read political work in Soviet Russia. Long out of print, and often only being available with the abridged first few chapters, this version includes completed new transcriptions of the last eight chapters along with the Programme of the Communist Party of Russia, a glossary, and a new word index. The ABC of Communism is written to be a systematic description of communism and the proletarian condition under capitalism, away from the reality of Soviet life, into a redirection towards a militant optimism on the horizon. This book in the Radical Reprint series from Pattern Books is made to be accessible and as close to manufacturing cost as possible.

Book The ABCs of Socialism

Download or read book The ABCs of Socialism written by Bhaskar Sunkara and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2016-07-12 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jacobin magazine offfers an irreverent, illustrated introduction to socialism that answers the basic questions many want to know—but are too afraid to ask. The remarkable run of self-proclaimed “democratic socialist” Bernie Sanders for president of the United States has prompted—for the first time in decades and to the shock of many—a national conversation about socialism. A New York Times poll in late November found that a majority of Democrats had a favorable view of socialism, and in New Hampshire in February, more than half of Democratic voters under 35 told the Boston Globe they call themselves socialists. It’s unclear exactly what socialism means to this generation, but couple with the ascendancy of longtime leftwinger Jeremy Corbyn to the leadership of the Labour Party in the UK, it’s clear there’s a historic, generational shift underway. This book steps into this moment to offer a clear, accessible, informative, and irreverent guide to socialism for the uninitiated. Written by young writers from the dynamic magazine Jacobin, alongside several distinguished scholars, The ABCs of Socialism answers basic questions, including ones that many want to know but might be afraid to ask (“Doesn’t socialism always end up in dictatorship?”, “Will socialists take my Kenny Loggins records?”). Disarming and pitched to a general readership without sacrificing intellectual depth, this will be the best introduction an idea whose time seems to have come again.

Book excerpt: Now and After: The ABC of Communist Anarchism is an introduction to the principles of anarchism and anarchist communism written by Alexander Berkman. The anarchist movement was under siege during the 1920s and, in an effort to revive the movement, the Jewish Anarchist Federation in New York asked Berkman to write an introduction to anarchism intended for the general public. By presenting the principles of anarchism in plain language, the New York anarchists hoped that readers might be swayed to support the movement or, at a minimum, that the book might improve the image of anarchism and anarchists in the public's eyes. Berkman's work explains anarchist philosophy in terms that uninitiated readers can understand. Because of its presentation of anarchist philosophy in plain language, Now and After has become one of the best-known introductions to anarchism in print.

Download or read book A B C Of Communism Vol 1 Classic Reprint written by Nikola Bucharin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A. B. C. Of Communism, Vol. 1 Russian Proverb. Can best be advanced, and who organize themselves in a party. The whole working class, therefore, does not belong to the party, but its best and most energetic members does. These members lead the others. To the workers' party (the Bolsheviki) the best workers and peasants attach them selves; to the party of the landlords and capitalists Party of Peoples' Freedom the most ener getic landlords, capitalists, and their servants: lawyers, professors, officers, etc., belong. Consequently every party represents the most thoughtful members of its class. There fore, a landlord or capitalist, who is in an organized party, can better fight workers and peasants than one who is not. Similarly, organized workers can more successfully fight capitalists and landlords than those who are unorganized. The former have reflected upon the aims and the interests of the working class; they know how these interests can best be served; and they know the shortest way to their goal All those aims which a party strives to realize, while representing the interests of its floss, constitute a party program. In the program is therefore shown what a cer tain class aspires to. In the program of the Communist Party is consequently shown what the workers and poor peasants strive for. A program is a most important thing for a party. From a program we can always ascertain whose interests are represented by the party to whichthe program belongs.
