Book excerpt: We analyze the decay B° → K+ ?− ?° with a sample of 454 million B{bar B} events collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC, and extract the complex amplitudes of seven interfering resonances over the Dalitz plot. These results are combined with amplitudes measured in B° → K°{sub s}?+?− decays to construct isospin amplitudes from B° → K{sup *}? and B° → ?K decays. We measure the phase of the isospin amplitude ?{sub 3/2}, useful in constraining the CKM unitarity triangle angle ? and evaluate a CP rate asymmetry sum rule sensitive to the presence of new physics operators. We measure direct CP violation in B° → K{sup *+}?− decays at the level of 3 ? when measurements from both B° → K+?−?° and B° → K°{sub s}?+?− decays are combined.

Book excerpt: We present the first results on the Dalitz-plot structure and improved measurements of the time-dependent CP-violation parameters of the process B° → K{sub S}°K{sub S}°K{sub S}° obtained using 468 x 106 B{bar B} decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC. The Dalitz-plot structure is probed by a time-integrated amplitude analysis that does not distinguish between B° and {bar B}° decays. We measure the total inclusive branching fraction?(B° → K{sub S}°K{sub S}°K{sub S}°) = (6.19 ± 0.48 ± 0.15 ± 0.12) x 10−6, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third represents the Dalitz-plot signal model dependence. We also observe evidence for the intermediate resonant states f0(980), f0(1710), and f2(2010). Their respective product branching fractions are measured to be (2.70{sub -1.19}{sup +1.25} ± 0.36 ± 1.17) x 10−6, (0.50{sub -0.24}{sup +0.46} ± 0.04 ± 0.10) x 10−6, and (0.54{sub -0.20}{sup +0.21} ± 0.03 ± 0.52) x 10−6. Additionally, we determine the mixing-induced CP-violation parameters to be S = -0.94{sub -0.21}{sup +0.24} ± 0.06 and C = -0.17 ± 0.18 ± 0.04, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. These values are in agreement with the standard model expectation.

Overall, twelve parameters are measured, including the fractions of longitudinal f{sub L} and parity-odd transverse f{sub {perpendicular}} amplitudes, branching fraction, strong phases, and six parameters sensitive to CP-violation. We use the dependence on the K[pi] invariant mass of the interference between the J{sup P} = 1− and 0 K[pi] components to resolve the discrete ambiguity in the determination of the strong and weak phases. Our measurements of f{sub L} = 0.49 ± 0.05 ± 0.03, f{sub {perpendicular}} = 0.21 {+-} 0.05 {+-} 0.02, and the strong phases point to the presence of a substantial helicity-plus amplitude from a presently unknown source.

For the B° 2![phi]K° decays, they measure sin 2[beta]{sub eff}([phi]K°) = +0.50 ± 0.25(stat){sub -0.04}{sup +0.07}(syst). The B° 2!K+K−K{sub s}° decays are dominated by K+K− S-wave, as determined from an angular analysis; they measure sin 2[beta]{sub eff} (K+K−K{sub s}°) = +0.55 ± 0.22(stat) ± 0.04(syst) ± 0.11(CP), where the last error is due to the uncertainty in the fraction of CP-even contributions to the decay amplitude. We find no evidence for direct CP violation.

We also study the resonant and nonresonant substructure of B--> KKK decays, and find evidence against the previously hypothesized resonance dubbed the "fX(1500)."

From a time-dependent maximum-likelihood fit they measure the mixing-induced CP violation parameter S(f0(980)K$0\atop{S}$) = - sin 2[beta]efff0(980)K$0\atop{S}$ = -0.95$+0.32\atop{-0.23}$ ± 0.10 and the direct CP violation parameter C(f0(980)K$0\atop{S}$) = - 0.24 ± 0.31 ± 0.15, where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. Finally, they present a measurement of the branching fraction of the decay B0 2!f0(2![pi]+[pi]- )K$0\atop{S}$. From a time-dependent maximum likelihood fit to a data sample of 123 x 106 Y(4S) 2!B$\bar{B}$ decays they find 93.6 ± 13.6 ± 6.4 signal events corresponding to a branching fraction of [beta](B0 2!f0(980)(2![pi]+[pi]- )K0) = (6.0 ± 0.9 ± 0.6 ± 1.2) x 10-6, where the first error is statistical, the second systematic, and the third due to model uncertainties.

This measurement establishes direct CP violation in the B° meson system at the level of 4.2 standard deviations.
