Book Ammonia IR Absorbance Measurements with an Equilibrium Vapor Cell

Download or read book Ammonia IR Absorbance Measurements with an Equilibrium Vapor Cell written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infrared (IR) absorbance spectra were acquired for 18 ammonia vapor pressures. The vapor pressures were generated with 15 gravimetrically prepared aqueous solutions and three commercial aqueous solutions using a dynamic method I.E., EQUILIBRIUM VAPOR CELL (EVC). Background IR spectra were obtained using the vapor pressure of distilled water. The IR absorbance (A) measurements were analyzed by computing ammonia vapor mole fractions (Y) or partial pressures (P) as a function of solution mole fractions (X). The Y versus A furnished a superior data fit over P versus A for the prepared and two commercial solutions. The linear regions of these data fits allowed prediction of Y and P for the third commercial 5% VN ammonia solution. Eight times zero filling of IR interferogram data allowed a more accurate determination of the ammonia spectral band peak positions. The zero filled results were compared to the results with no zero filling. Program listings, analysis results, and IR absorbance spectra were tabulated in an extensive set of appendixes. Titration of two prepared aqueous ammonia solutions demonstrated the reliability of gravimetric solution preparation, as well as showing that storage of an aqueous ammonia solution for a period exceeding 2 years had no significant effect on ammonia concentration.

Book Equilibrium Vapor Cell for Quantitative Infrared Absorbance Measurements

Download or read book Equilibrium Vapor Cell for Quantitative Infrared Absorbance Measurements written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infrared (IR) absorbance measurements, through a gas flow cell, are made with the closed-loop circulation of vapor-air mixtures that are generated by temperature equilibrated aqueous solutions. Accurate vapor pressures of organic solutes are established with the equilibrated aqueous solutions. The water solvent effectively depresses the vapor pressure associated with the pure organic solutes of methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, acetone, and methyl ethyl ketone (MEK). Knowledge of the solute liquid mole fractions, pure component vapor pressures, and the Wilson equation permit determination of the solute vapor pressures to within 2% accuracy. Reliable solution preparation requires only the correct weighings of pure constituent materials before mixing to achieve the targeted solute liquid mole fractions. Absorbances are measured for all solutes over a range of seven concentrations with the exception of four MEK concentrations. These concentrations show the absorbance region of adherence to Beer's Law with an experimental precision of approximately +2% for the solutes studied. Absorptivities that are calculated from the absorbance versus vapor pressure slopes are compared to the available IR absorbance data from other laboratories.

Book Infrared Spectral Evaluation of Methanol

Download or read book Infrared Spectral Evaluation of Methanol written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vapor analytes of methanol and ammonia are quantitatively generated separately and as mixtures in the presence of water vapor. Generation of these analytes relies on the vapor liquid equilibria properties of the associated aqueous solutions for delivering targeted vapor amounts into an equilibrium vapor cell. The amount delivered to the equilibrium vapor cell is controlled by use of gravimetrically prepared solutions and maintaining a constant solution temperature. The cell vapor contents are examined with a laboratory Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. Vapor phase spectra are acquired for the analyte mixtures in the Beer's Law concentration range using a fixed path length optical cell. Comparison to literature vapor liquid equilibrium measurements indicates the assumption of ideal solution behavior for methanollammonia interactions in the ternary solutions to be valid.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by W. H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 24 (thesis year 1979) a total of 10,033 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 215 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 24 reports these submitted in 1979, on occasion, certain universities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.
