Book The People of the Bible and the Book of Mormon

Download or read book The People of the Bible and the Book of Mormon written by Michael Jacobazzi and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-03-27 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The people who were written about in the Book of Mormon have forgotten and abandoned their Jewish culture, traditions, and customs. From the time they left Jerusalem, they became New Testament Christians in their ways and actions. The Torah and the Book of Mormon are different in their writings. The Torah shows a God who delivered them from slavery in Egypt, and eventually brought them to live in Canaan. They were given laws that would help them in the new land and help them remember God. They had a way of life that centered around the Temple in Jerusalem and sacrificial worship. The Book of Mormon shows a group of people who were from the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh but called themselves Jews. They left Jerusalem at the urging of God, took several years to reach the sea, built a ship, and sailed to the Americas. Upon their arrival, they began living Christian, rather than Jewish, lives.

Book Elements of Causal Inference

Download or read book Elements of Causal Inference written by Jonas Peters and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2017-11-29 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A concise and self-contained introduction to causal inference, increasingly important in data science and machine learning. The mathematization of causality is a relatively recent development, and has become increasingly important in data science and machine learning. This book offers a self-contained and concise introduction to causal models and how to learn them from data. After explaining the need for causal models and discussing some of the principles underlying causal inference, the book teaches readers how to use causal models: how to compute intervention distributions, how to infer causal models from observational and interventional data, and how causal ideas could be exploited for classical machine learning problems. All of these topics are discussed first in terms of two variables and then in the more general multivariate case. The bivariate case turns out to be a particularly hard problem for causal learning because there are no conditional independences as used by classical methods for solving multivariate cases. The authors consider analyzing statistical asymmetries between cause and effect to be highly instructive, and they report on their decade of intensive research into this problem. The book is accessible to readers with a background in machine learning or statistics, and can be used in graduate courses or as a reference for researchers. The text includes code snippets that can be copied and pasted, exercises, and an appendix with a summary of the most important technical concepts.

Book excerpt: A centuries-old belief system is put to the test as two prominent authors examine and debate the subject of Calvinism from opposing viewpoints. James White, author of The Potter's Freedom, takes the Calvinist position. Dave Hunt, author of What Love Is This, opposes him. The exchange is lively and at times intense as these two articulate men wrestle over what the Scriptures tell us about God's sovereignty and man's free will. This thought-provoking, challenging book provides potent responses to the most frequently asked questions about Calvinism. Is God free to love anyone He wants? Book The Neanderthals Rediscovered How Modern Science Is Rewriting Their Story The Rediscovered Series

Download or read book The Neanderthals Rediscovered How Modern Science Is Rewriting Their Story The Rediscovered Series written by Dimitra Papagianni and published by Thames & Hudson. This book was released on 2013-10-07 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Even-handed, up-to-date, and clearly written. . . . If you want to navigate between the Scylla and Charybdis of Neanderthal controversies, you’ll find no better guide.” —Brian Fagan, author of Cro-Magnon In recent years, the common perception of the Neanderthal has been transformed thanks to new discoveries and paradigm-shattering scientific innovations. It turns out that the Neanderthals’ behavior was surprisingly modern: they buried the dead, cared for the sick, hunted large animals in their prime, harvested seafood, and spoke. Meanwhile, advances in DNA technologies have forced a reassessment of the Neanderthals’ place in our own past. For hundreds of thousands of years, Neanderthals evolved in Europe very much in parallel to the Homo sapiens line evolving in Africa, and, when both species made their first forays into Asia, the Neanderthals may even have had the upper hand. Here, Dimitra Papagianni and Michael A. Morse look at the Neanderthals through the full dramatic arc of their existence—from their evolution in Europe to their expansion to Siberia, their subsequent extinction, and ultimately their revival in popular novels, cartoons, cult movies, and TV commercials.

Book How to be Wiser than King Solomon

Download or read book How to be Wiser than King Solomon written by Stanford Erickson and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-05-01 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How To Be Wiser Than Solomon is a biography of King Solomon. It teaches you to be wiser than Solomon. It also questions the wisdom of some modern scholars of archeology and Biblical scholars of the Old Testament, both learned Jewish scholars and learned Christian scholars. These scholars, most of whom contend that Solomon did not write Ecclesiastes, believe that the stories of David and Solomon in the Old Testament might have been a hoax by Levitical priests to maintain control over the Jewish people. How To Be Wiser Than Solomon explains that Ecclesiastes represents Solomon's wisdom "under the sun." My own poem Ecclesiastes: A Modern Sequel describes how to be wiser "above the sun." Finally, this book gives a unique insight into Solomon's classic Song of Solomon. Scholars find the poem confusing. Once you understand that Solomon abandoned his true love Abishag to marry Pharaoh's daughter, the poem on its simplest level is an account of Solomon's remorse for forsaking Abishag
