Book Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures Standard ASCE SEI 7 10

Download or read book Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures Standard ASCE SEI 7 10 written by American Society of and published by . This book was released on 2013-11-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prepared by the Committee on Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures of the Codes and Standards Activities Division of the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE. Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures, ASCE/SEI 7-10, provides requirements for general structural design and includes means for determining dead, live, soil, flood, snow, rain, atmospheric ice, earthquake, and wind loads, as well as their combinations, which are suitable for inclusion in building codes and other documents. This Standard, a revision of ASCE/SEI 7-05, offers a complete update and reorganization of the wind load provisions, expanding them from one chapter into six. The Standard contains new ultimate event wind maps with corresponding reductions in load factors, so that the loads are not affected, and updates the seismic loads with new risk-targeted seismic maps. The snow, live, and atmospheric icing provisions are updated as well. In addition, the Standard includes a detailed Commentary with explanatory and supplementary information designed to assist building code committees and regulatory authorities. The third printing of Standard ASCE/SEI 7-10 incorporates errata and includes Supplement 1. In addition, the seismic commentary has been expanded and completely revised. Standard ASCE/SEI 7 is an integral part of building codes in the United States. Many of the load provisions are substantially adopted by reference in the International Building Code and the NFPA 5000 Building Construction and Safety Code. Structural engineers, architects, and those engaged in preparing and administering local building codes will find the structural load requirements essential to their practice.

Book Wind Engineering 1983 3B

Download or read book Wind Engineering 1983 3B written by J.D. Holmes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind Engineering 1983, Part B contains the proceedings of the Sixth International Conference on Wind Engineering, held in Gold Coast, Australia, on March 21-25, 1983 and in Auckland, New Zealand, on April 6-7, 1983 under the auspices of the International Association for Wind Engineering. The conference provided a forum for discussing topics related to wind energy and wind engineering, from bluff body aerodynamics and mathematical models of wind loading to full-scale measurement and modeling of buildings and other structures. Comprised of 37 chapters, this volume begins with a description of two probabilistic wind load models used in assessing the safety indices of structural members in cyclonic and non-cyclonic regions of Australia. The discussion then turns to the effect of uncertainties in wind load estimation on reliability assessments; wind tunnel test program and risk analysis for structural design; and application of wind engineering to low-rise housing. Subsequent sections focus on wind loading of chimneys and cooling towers, bridges, cables and transmission lines, and offshore platforms. The fundamentals of bluff body aerodynamics are also examined, along with mathematical models of wind loading. This monograph will be of interest to students, practitioners, and researchers concerned with wind energy and wind engineering.

Book Architectural Glass to Resist Seismic and Extreme Climatic Events

Download or read book Architectural Glass to Resist Seismic and Extreme Climatic Events written by Richard A. Behr and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2009-09-14 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Glass is a popular cladding material for modern buildings. The trend for steel-framed, glass-clad buildings instead of those using traditional materials such as brick and concrete has inherent problems. These include, for example, the performance of architectural glass in extreme climatic events such as windstorms and heavy snow loads and also during earthquakes. This book reviews the state-of-the-art in glass and glazing technology to resist failure due to these natural events. Building code seismic requirements for architectural glass in the United States are considered first of all, followed by a chapter on glazing and curtain wall systems to resist earthquakes. The next two chapters discuss snow loads on building envelopes and glazing systems, and types and design of glazing systems to resist snow loads. Wind pressures and the impact of wind-borne debris are then considered in the next group of chapters which also review special types of glazing systems to resist windstorms. A final chapter reviews test methods for the performance of glazing systems during earthquakes and extreme climatic events. With its distinguished editor and team of contributors, Architectural glass to resist seismic and extreme climatic events is an essential resource for architects, structural, civil and architectural engineers, researchers and those involved in designing and specifying building glazing and cladding materials in areas where severe windstorms, snow and earthquakes are a threat. Considers the state of the art in glass and glazing technology to resist failure due to extreme climatic events Reviews specific building techniques and test methods to enhance glazing performance during snow storms, wind storms and earthquakes

Book Reinforced Concrete Structural Reliability

Download or read book Reinforced Concrete Structural Reliability written by Mohamed Abdallah El-Reedy, Ph.D and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-12-15 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural engineers must focus on a structure’s continued safety throughout its service life. Reinforced Concrete Structural Reliability covers the methods that enable engineers to keep structures reliable during all project phases, and presents a practical exploration of up-to-date techniques for predicting the lifetime of a structure. The book also helps readers understand where the safety factors used come from and addresses the problems that arise from deviation from these factors. It also examines the question of what code is best to follow for a specific project: the American code, the British Standard, the Eurocode, or other local codes. The author devotes an entire chapter to practical statistics methods and probability theory used in structural and civil engineering, both important for calculating the probability of structural failure (reliability analysis). The text addresses the effects of time, environmental conditions, and loads to assess consequences on older structures as well as to calculate the probability of failure. It also presents the effects of steel bar corrosion and column corrosion, and precautions to consider along with guides for design. This book offers guidelines and tools to evaluate existing as well as new structures, providing all available methods and tests for assessing structures, including visual inspection and nondestructive testing for concrete strength. It also presents techniques for predicting the remaining service life of a structure, which can be used to determine whether to perform repairs or take other action. This practical guide helps readers to differentiate between and understand the philosophy of the various codes and standards, enabling them to work anywhere in the world. It will aid engineers at all levels working on projects from the design to the maintenance phase, increasing their grasp of structure behavior, codes and factors, and predicting service life.
