Book Frontiers in Colorectal Surgery

Download or read book Frontiers in Colorectal Surgery written by Robin K. S. Phillips and published by Tfm Publishing. This book was released on 2005 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a topical review of issues the editors consider to be "hot topics" and will be of interest to qualified consultant colorectal surgeons and those performing general surgery with an interest in colorectal surgery. In addition, the topics picked are likely to be ones that canditates taking the Intercollegiate Examination in General Surgery will be quizzed upon. It is not intended to be a textbook covering all aspects of colorectal surgery. Rather, it is meant to be an up-to-date view of current and probable near future advances. Frontiers in neoplasia, inflammatory bowel disease, anal disorders and management are covered by acknowledged experts, known to be active in the field. The implications of deep pelvic dissection and pouch surgery in males and females are sensitively explored. Each chapter contains three main sections entitled 'What is the problem/issue?', 'Where are we now?' and 'Where are we going?'. Referencing for the first two is key and current; the last section is speculative with the occasional reference. This volume should find a place on the coloproctologist's bookshelf as an exciting review of contemporary themes, complementing traditional textbooks.

Download or read book Updates in Colo Proctology written by Jean-Claude Givel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Updates in Colo-Proctology" covers the proceedings of the Anglo-Swiss Colo-Proctology Meeting held in St Moritz in 1990. The book contains the papers which were presented and dis cussed there by physicians of the various specialties concerned with the care of patients with diseases of the colon, rectum and anus. The authors, each distinguished in a particular field, have contributed across a wide range of subjects and different dis ciplines. The topics covered include surgical and investigative techniques, cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and specific infections. Being familiar with the previous literature, it is clear that little was really new among the themes presented in St Moritz, but few will deny that many of the techniques and methods of treatment described in this book are truly modern. Some contribute an entirely new dimension to the approach to well known colo-proctological conditions, while others may open up new paths for future research. In addition, in colo-proctology as in other disciplines, advances in treatment almost always bring new problems in the complications which attend them. These are the subject of some of the papers. Although it would be invidious to pick out individual contributions when there is so much that is new to talk about and so much that is old to be looked at in a new light, we should like to record how much we have enjoyed reading and collating these chapters. We hope that others will share our enthusiasm and pleasure.

Book Advanced Colonoscopy and Endoluminal Surgery

Download or read book Advanced Colonoscopy and Endoluminal Surgery written by Sang W. Lee and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-31 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each chapter of this new book on advanced lower GI endoscopy and endoluminal surgery focuses on the thought process and step-wise technical approach to the condition and procedure listed. By using this unique method, practitioners ranging from surgeons-in-training, gastroenterologists-in-training and those early in their career to senior colorectal specialists and gastroenterologist who want to incorporate or improve their advanced endoscopic skills will be able utilize techniques and learn from this gathering of experts. The guiding principle of this work is to create a resource for surgeons and gastroenterologists that extends beyond the currently available texts, and that surgeons and gastroenterologists can turn to when wanting to “brush up” on techniques, find a useful “tip or trick” for a complex patient, or simply learn a reproducible methods for advanced endoscopic procedures. This unique book highlights current knowledge, demonstrates standards of medical care, and provides clear step-by-step reproducible techniques even for the most advanced procedures. Beyond the simple application of technical knowledge the book addresses the deeper questions about the optimal “next step” in dealing with more complex patients (i.e., difficult polyps, gastrointestinal bleeding, IBD). International experts also address future challenges and innovations in lower gastrointestinal endoscopy. Finally, it focuses on specific “tips and tricks” that experts in the field have learned. The format follows that of both a “how to” manual as well as an algorithm-based guide to allow the reader to understand the thought process behind the proposed treatment strategy. Throughout the text, each author provides an ongoing narrative of his/her individual techniques along with color illustrations and diagrams to “personally” take the reader through the crucial steps of the procedure, and key points of patient care inherent to that topic. Additionally, where appropriate, links to online videos will give the reader an up-front look into technical aspects of EMR, ESD, endoscopic stent placements, CELS, as well as NOTES. The editors and contributors to this book are those with nationally and internationally recognized expertise in lower gastrointestinal endoscopic and endoluminal interventions, have taught many international courses, and have numerous peer-reviewed publications. This book will be useful to colorectal surgeons, general surgeons, and gastroenterologists who want to learn or improve their skills in lower gastrointestinal endoscopy and advanced endoscopic interventions. Furthermore, this book will be of particular interest to the surgeons-in-training, and gastroenterologist-in-training that are often called upon to manage a variety of colorectal conditions through an endoscopic approach. This would ultimately serve as an invaluable reference for any physician or surgeon with a vested interest in caring for patients with simple or complex colorectal disease.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Hedrology" - a term coined by G. B. E. SIMONETTI (Milan) - is the oldest of all surgical specialities. It was re-introduced as Proctology by European surgeons at the turn of the century. Excellent work was performed by the surgeons LIS FRANK, DIEFFENBACH, VELPEAU, VOLKMANN, KRASKE, VON REINEKE, QUENU, REHN and GOETZE. Today this specialty includes the research, recognition and treatment of disorders of the entire colon, rectum and anus. Ever since the days of W. VON REINEKE (1868-1901), this specialty has been cultivated with special care at the Chirurgische Universitatsklinik Erlangen; scientific investigation has progressed and the operative technique has been improved. Experts from 22 countries met here at the Third International Congress in order to exchange experience and to learn from the successes and failures of their col leagues. These opinions and this knowledge have been summarized in the congress report. Thus it presents a survey of today's problems in proctology. G.
