The aims and purposes of the various types of art schools are given, and the reports of 102 individual schools, with total registration of are tabulated in detail and preceded by a summary. There is also a list tabulating the answers received from 170 colleges in reference to the teaching of the history of art. The total number of students in these colleges during the season of 1909-1910 was and of this number received instruction in the history of art and worked in the studios. A group of illustrations of academic work by students precedes the tabu lated material, and illustrations of pupils' work in design, crafts and indus trial art follow. The balance of the illustrations, sixty in all, reproduce paint ings to which honors have been awarded, sculpture recently unveiled, new art buildings and artists recently deceased.
