Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whither Thou Goest is the amazing story of a modern day Ruth and Boaz. How God used a background of war, disaster, and family separation to bring His two children together will touch your heart and increase your faith. American missionary Karl Faulkner found himself stranded in Poland with war breaking out and doors to sharing the Gospel closing all around him. Such were the circumstances which forced him out of Poland into Hungary, and eventually made him return to the United States. Had Karl misinterpreted the messages he’d received directing him to witness to the Jews of Eastern Europe? His answer would come years later, when he was contacted by the Red Cross. A family that had befriended Karl in Hungary now sought refuge from the Communist regime and needed an American sponsor. They were bringing friends with them, one of which was to become Karl’s wife. Terezia Toth left behind all the world she had ever known—her relatives, church, and ability to earn a living, even her language and social customs when she and her companions arrived in the United States. Thanks to the sponsorship of two Baptist churches in Oregon, they were well provided for. But everything was different and strange. Life would be so much easier living among other refugees in California. Why was God asking her to stay behind and marry a man she did not know, who didn’t even speak her language? Yet Terezia was willing to echo the words of Ruth, “Whither thou goest, I will go…” committing to follow her husband wherever the Lord led. It was a vow that would try her faith and take her to the brink of reason. The end result was to become a marriage built on mutual devotion and endearing love, yielding eternal fruit blossoming in the garden of Paradise.

Book excerpt: Whither Thou Goest is the first nonfiction book to focus on this little-known period in American history of 1878, when the world was in the depths of depression like none before. In two parallel journeys that take place in the past and the present, Whither Thou Goest attempts to make people long gone to come back alive. It examines who we are, where we've been, and has everything to do with where we are going. The first journey started in 1878. The author's great-grandaunt and uncle pioneers Mary Jane and Theo Beardsley left their small-town home in upstate New York with their two young daughters, Eva and Frankie, and followed their dream of a new life in the American West. Swallowed up by time, they became forgotten by all they knew back East. All that is but one. The second journey started in 1996. By chance, the author learned that Frankie's family home was now an Oregon museum. He discovered a small diary kept by Eva a bare-boned chronicle of their journey west. The inspired author and his wife decided to follow their trail across America and learn all they could about 1878 America and his relatives, living and dead.

Book excerpt: Black America stands over the spiritual abyss if we continue down the paths we are currently taking, we will be extinct by 2040 Inside this book lies scriptural answers to many problems that plague the black community today, Answers that are practical and down to earth, and not mere theoretical conjecture. It is there if we know where and how to look. Problem such as: Why blacks can't seem to have unity? Why we fill the prisons? Why black women get involved with thugs and why do thugs have an easy time getting women (white or black) Why many women (white and black) can't break away from toxic men? What the black man must do to save himself, his women and children? What is the African-Americans relationship with ancient Israel? Are blacks cursed and will the curse be lifted? What is the impact of Homosexuality on black Americans? Why are 70% of African-American children born into fatherless Homes? Why are 72% of African-American women unmarried? These are not answers from so-called experts or talking heads. These are from God's word and they apply today, not just in Biblical times. Ask yourself some deep questions. Are you tired of getting your butt kicked by every one self? Are you brotha's tired of having to deal with whorish women? Are you tired of whore-mongering and abusive men? Are you tired of struggling to overcome your own inner demons? Do you want to be able to experience Peace that is beyond understanding ? and you want to be able to experience it now not having to just wait for it in the hereafter? These and many other questions are answered in scripture. Chances are you have been taught God's word through a preacher or T.V. Evangelist. You need to read God's Word as if he were talking to you directly because he is. Read, Study, Pray, Love and Live.
Download or read book The Turn Around Religion in America written by Michael P. Kramer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-02-24 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Playing on the frequently used metaphors of the 'turn toward' or 'turn back' in scholarship on religion, The Turn Around Religion in America offers a model of religion that moves in a reciprocal relationship between these two poles. In particular, this volume dedicates itself to a reading of religion and of religious meaning that cannot be reduced to history or ideology on the one hand or to truth or spirit on the other, but is rather the product of the constant play between the historical particulars that manifest beliefs and the beliefs that take shape through them. Taking as their point of departure the foundational scholarship of Sacvan Bercovitch, the contributors locate the universal in the ongoing and particularized attempts of American authors from the seventeenth century forward to get it - whatever that 'it' might be - right. Examining authors as diverse as Pietro di Donato, Herman Melville, Miguel Algarin, Edward Taylor, Mark Twain, Robert Keayne, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Paule Marshall, Stephen Crane, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Joseph B. Soloveitchik, among many others-and a host of genres, from novels and poetry to sermons, philosophy, history, journalism, photography, theater, and cinema-the essays call for a discussion of religion's powers that does not seek to explain them as much as put them into conversation with each other. Central to this project is Bercovitch's emphasis on the rhetoric, ritual, typology, and symbology of religion and his recognition that with each aesthetic enactment of religion's power, we learn something new.

Book excerpt: The former treatise I made, O Theophilus, concerning all that Jesus began both to do and to teach, until the day in which he was received up, after that he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit unto the apostles whom he had chosen: To whom he also showed himself alive after his passion by many proofs, appearing unto them by the space of forty days, and speaking the things concerning the kingdom of God: and, being assembled together with them, he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, [said he], ye heard from me: For John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence. They therefore, when they were come together, asked him, saying, Lord, dost thou at this time restore the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know times or seasons, which the Father hath set within His own authority. But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. And when he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they were looking stedfastly into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; who also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye looking into heaven? this Jesus, who was received up from you into heaven shall so come in like manner as ye beheld him going into heaven. Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is nigh unto Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey off. And when they were come in, they went up into the upper chamber, where they were abiding; both Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James [the son] of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas [the son] of James. These all with one accord continued stedfastly in prayer, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. And in these days Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren, and said (and there was a multitude of persons [gathered] together, about a hundred and twenty), Brethren, it was needful that the Scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spake before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was guide to them that took Jesus. For he was numbered among us, and received his portion in this ministry. (Now this man obtained a field with the reward of his iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. And it became known to all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch that in their language that field was called Akeldama, that is, The field of blood.) For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be made desolate, And let no man dwell therein: and, His office let another take. Of the men therefore that have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and went out among us, beginning from the baptism of John, unto the day that he was received up from us, of these must one become a witness with us of his resurrection. And they put forward two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show of these two the one whom thou hast chosen, to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place.
