Book Fragments for a History of the Human Body

Download or read book Fragments for a History of the Human Body written by Michel Feher and published by Zone Books. This book was released on 1989 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The first approach can be called vertical since what is explored here is the human body's relationship to the divine, to the bestial and to the machines that imitate or simulate it. The second approach covers the various junctures between the body's "outside" and "inside": it can therefore be called a "psychosomatic" approach, studying the manifestation - or production - of soul and the expression of emotions through the body's attitudes, and, on another level, the speculations inspired by cenesthesia, pain and death. Finally, the third approach ... brings into play the classical opposition between organ and function by showing how a certain organ or bodily substance can be used to justify or challenge the way human society functions ..." - foreword Part 3.

Book Encounters with Popular Pasts

Download or read book Encounters with Popular Pasts written by Mike Robinson and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is based on the recognition that heritage is popular and popular culture is now readily transformed into heritage, whose meanings and myths reshape social life and political and economic realities, as well as re-make "tradition". The papers in this volume consider: What does popular heritage look like? To whom does it speak? Is it active in dissolving class and cultural boundaries or just in reproducing new ones? How do societies manage a heritage that is fluid, immediate and that straddles extremes of serious conflict and hedonistic frivolity? When and under what circumstances is the creation and expression of new cultural forms - popular culture - capable of being transformed into heritage?

Download or read book Cambio clim tico lecciones de y para ciudades de am rica latina written by Nail, Silvie and published by U. Externado de Colombia. This book was released on 2016-07-25 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Our Future A Green Manifesto for Latin America and the Caribbean Nuestro Futuro Un Manifiesto Verde Para Am rica Latina Y El Caribe

Download or read book Our Future A Green Manifesto for Latin America and the Caribbean Nuestro Futuro Un Manifiesto Verde Para Am rica Latina Y El Caribe written by Iván Duque and published by Planeta Publishing. This book was released on 2024-04-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Actions towards carbon neutrality, positive conservation and sustainability in Latin America and the Caribbean Our world is facing an unprecedented environmental crisis. We have lost more than 70% of wildlife in the last fifty years; with the current rate of deforestation, in less than a decade the Amazon will become a net emitter of greenhouse gases; rising sea levels threaten entire cities;Frequent natural disasters resulting from extreme weather events indiscriminately annihilate lives. Latin America and the Caribbean play a predominant role in mitigating this crisis, as they have the highest concentration of biodiversity on the planet, the main sources of fresh water, the Amazon biome, and an unquantifiable wealth of coral reefs, among others. Aware of this reality, Iván Duque proposes in these pages a roadmap for the countries of the region - with realistic, bankable, replicable, scalable and sustainable strategies - to join forces that allow solutions in the short, medium and long term. The stage of speeches and promises is over. Concrete actions are needed to save the planet and must be implemented now.
