Book Journey to Alternity

Download or read book Journey to Alternity written by Judith Prager and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2000-05 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if you could change your life, your health, your world in the wink of an eye? Like an optical illusion, a picture hidden in a picture that suddenly reveals itself with a change of focus, so alternate realities — "alternities" — await your discovery. Through true and astounding stories of healing, exercises to experience the mysteries for yourself, and detailed explanations of the quantum science behind them, you will discover how it is possible to change your health and your world with your imagination. This book uses the metaphor of metaphor to explode the prison of limits that has characterized three-dimensional life. It uses the illusion of allusion to melt hard forms and make them malleable. It offers you Alternity — the domain of endless possibilities — and invites you to move in.

Book Popular Culture and Legal Pluralism

Download or read book Popular Culture and Legal Pluralism written by Wendy A Adams and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-06-17 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing upon theories of critical legal pluralism and psychological theories of narrative identity, this book argues for an understanding of popular culture as legal authority, unmediated by translation into state law. In narrating our identities, we draw upon collective cultural narratives, and our narrative/nomos obligational selves become the nexus for law and popular culture as mutually constitutive discourse. The author demonstrates the efficacy and desirability of applying a pluralist legal analysis to examine a much broader scope of subject matter than is possible through the restricted perspective of state law alone. The study considers whether presumptively illegal acts might actually be instances of a re-imagined, alternative legality, and the concomitant implications. As an illustrative example, works of critical dystopia and the beliefs and behaviours of eco/animal-terrorists can be understood as shared narrative and normative commitments that constitute law just as fully as does the state when it legislates and adjudicates. This book will be of great interest to academics and scholars of law and popular culture, as well as those involved in interdisciplinary work in legal pluralism.

But that wasn"t said about the altruistic men and women of Alternitycorp, a group of science-adventurers who gained absolute power only to change key events of the past in hopes of creating a better future. This future had a name, and that name was Chronopolis, a city created using a science called Chrononomy. It all starts deep beneath Alternity Group Headquarters, where Special Time Agent Justin Nicholas Thyme enters the Chrona, an imposing time portal powered by the nuclear fusion of nearby stars. This star energy enables Justin and his protegée Infinity Staires to travel back in time to change key events, forward in time to explore mankind"s eventual fate, and even across infinite fractured dimensions. Join Justin as he fights giant centipedes in the Permian, while Infinity attempts to prevent Cortes from landing at La Paz, all under orders from a group of wildly rich scientists trying to save humanity, and the flora and megafauna of the future. Chronopolis is the home base, and the Chrona is the gateway to the past, future and beyond. Come ride along, and don"t forget to wear a protective "freeze" suit for the time jumps! Meet our agents, the aliens, the ants and the beautiful amazons of Space Station Armstrong, then take a breather at Alternity"s Miocene base, where Infinity keeps Owdy, her pet Woolly Mammoth. This is an adventure you will never forget.

Book Flesh and Blood

Download or read book Flesh and Blood written by Nick Gifford and published by infinity plus. This book was released on with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Matt's home life is falling to pieces as his mother seeks refuge from divorce by returning to the seaside town where she grew up. Separated from his friends, bored and discontented, Matt gradually becomes aware that his mother's family are the keepers of a terrifying secret. "Piggies was certainly good, but Flesh & Blood marks an advance on it ... an effective horror story that could well appeal to a wider audience than its targeted one, though anyone too squeamish should beware some parts of it." The Zone "Nick Gifford creates a vivid and disturbing world... Although the publisher describes this as a horror story it does not adhere to the traditional recipe ... what is more scary than goblins and ghouls about this plot is the believable predicament Matt finds himself in ... I enjoyed reading this novel and feel it appeals successfully to a wide age range." Children's Books UK "Another great teen thriller." Spot On "The pacing and plotting in this novel are superb. Twists and surprises occur at unpredictable intervals. And the ending is a blend of hope and menace ... achieves a level of excellence equivalent to one of Ramsey Campbell's books, neither condescending to his youthful readers nor slighting his adult ones. Now, that's a truly scary accomplishment!" Asimov's SF Magazine

Book The Word and the Law

  • Author : Milner S. Ball
  • Publisher : University of Chicago Press
  • Release : 1993-06
  • ISBN : 9780226036250
  • Pages : 236 pages

Download or read book The Word and the Law written by Milner S. Ball and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1993-06 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Milner Ball takes an experimental journey into the inner life of law and the careers of men and women who use it to help disadvantaged people and to strengthen the fabric of the communities in which they live. At the center of this book are portraits of seven contemporary legal practitioners—lawyers, judges, and advocates—who have devoted their lives to an unconventional vision of the law. In their work, in areas from New York City housing court to the Warm Springs reservation in Oregon, the law exemplifies fundamental human values, manifestations of what Ball calls the "Word," the presence of God in life. To develop this concept of the Word, Ball explores its workings in familiar literary and biblical texts, primarily William Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury, Toni Morrison's Beloved, the Book of Isaiah, and the Gospel of Mark.
