Download or read book Worship as Body Language written by E. Elochukwu Uzukwu and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Worship sets an assembly in motion movement towards God in response to God's movement towards humans thus creating a resilient and caring community. Worship as Body Language brings the African community's experience of the body and its gestures together with the Christian liturgy, since worship and social action are closely related. The body language" or gestures of praise, adoration, contemplation, ritual dance, and care of the neighbor are meaningful to the ethnic group; African Christians tune into these body motions to express the one Christian faith. In Worship as Body Language, Father Uzukwu details how patterns of African ritual assemblies and sacred narratives have merged with Jewish, gospel, and early Church traditions to create living Christian communities and liturgies. Using a socio-historical method, this book sheds new light on liturgical action and theology, and suggests more transition rituals. It also provides samples of emergent African Christian liturgies that emphasize intense community participation with appropriate gestures. These local liturgies attest to the patristic principle that different customs actually confirm the unity of our faith in Christ. Scholars teaching and researching the foundations of the liturgy and liturgical inculturation, graduate students, and those organizing workshops on the regional, diocesan, or parish level will find Worship as Body Languagea ready handbook on the liturgy. It is also a useful textbook for introducing college students and seminarians to the anthropological, historical, and theological dimensions of the liturgy. Elochukwu E. Uzukwu, CSSp, ThD, lectures in liturgy and African theology in seminaries and Catholic universities in Nigeria, Congo, Zaire, and France. He is the author of Liturgy: Truly Christian, Truly African, and the editor of Bulletin of Ecumenical Theology. "

Book Celebrating Jesus Christ in Africa

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This insightful and informative work explores the Africanization of Catholic worship in Congo (Zaire) and its implications for the world Church. In his Foreword, noted liturgist David Power says that Celebrating Jesus Christ in Africa is important not only for "informing readers about churches of Africa, but in offering wisdom to other churches facing questions about possible developments in their own liturgies."" "Kabasele Lumbala asks challenging questions regarding the issues of rites and inculturation: Which society, culture, and theology are hormative in deciding the shape of liturgy? He shows how African Christians are forging a synthesis between the Christian mystery, the Roman form of celebration and their own culture. Celebrating Jesus Christ in Africa is must reading for missioners, liturgists, theologians and all those concerned with the expression of culture in the rituals of the church."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book God Spirit and Human Wholeness

Download or read book God Spirit and Human Wholeness written by Elochukwu Eugene Uzukwu and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-03-09 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Holy Spirit provides access to relationship with and reflection on the Triune God. In West Africa, Christians approach the Triune God in a way that challenges the Jewish-Christian memory. Deeply rooted in their ancestral memory, where living is relationality, they embrace the Trinitarian faith, the economy of the relational God-Christ-Spirit, by expanding and reinventing their indigenous experience of God, deities, spirits, and ancestors. Christian faith-practice is marked by the spectacular dominance of the Holy Spirit, whose charisms reflect the operations of deities. African Initiated Churches (AICs), Protestant and Catholic charismatic movements, experience God-Spirit's liberating and healing hand for the enhancement and realization of communal and individual destiny (what one expects from a concerned providential deity). This book argues that the emergent West African Trinitarian imagination is in harmony with Hebrew insight into the One and Only Yahweh of the patriarchs that assumed the dimensions of Elohim, God--experienced as a sound of sheer silence by Elijah, and proposed in utter weakness as the Only God by Deutero-Isaiah--the God that Jesus called Abba, Father. As Spirit and Life, the Holy Spirit, which is the source of all charisms (Origen), is our link to the Trinity.

Book Theology Liberation and Genocide

Download or read book Theology Liberation and Genocide written by Mario I. Aguilar and published by SCM Press. This book was released on 2013-01-25 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Reclaiming Liberation Theology series claims that Liberation Theology is alive and well and continues to produce new and challenging material. In "Theology, Liberation and Genocide", Mario Aguilar, one of the leading liberation theologians of the current generation, asks how it can be possible to do theology in the face of atrocities such as the genocide in Rwanda. He argues that the traditional ways of doing theology ('high theology') no longer work and that theology now has to take place at the periphery rather than in the social, cultural and political centre. In this book, Aguilar seeks further to unfold the new agenda for liberation theology as set by Ivan Petrella and others.

Book Beyond Eurocentrism

Download or read book Beyond Eurocentrism written by Peter Gran and published by Syracuse University Press. This book was released on 2021-02-01 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eurocentrism influences virtually all established historical writing. With the rise of Prussia and, by extension, Europe, eurocentrism became the dominant paradigm for world history. Employing the approaches of Gramsci and Foucault, Peter Gran proposes a reconceptualization of world history. He challenges the traditional convention of relying on totalitarian or democratic functions of a particular state to explain and understand relationships of authority and resistance in a number of national contexts. Gran maintains that there is no single developmental model but diverse forms of hegemony that emerged out of the political crisis following the penetration of capitalism into each nation. In making comparisons between seemingly disparate and distinctive nations and by questioning established canons of comparative inquiry, Gran encourages people to recognize the similarities between the West and non-West nations.

Il a fait des promesses qui sont les preuves de sa fidélité et qui nous encouragent à avoir foi et espoir. Il a fait alliance avec Noé en lui promettant, ainsi qu'à ses descendants qu'il ne détruirait plus jamais la terre.
