Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Believers know that when we die we enter heaven and will spend eternity there with God and the saints who have gone before us. But what actually happens in heaven? What are we going to be doing there? Won't it get boring at some point? According to Scripture, a large part of our experience of heaven will be a continual revealing of God's glory. Not just his glory in the moment, but during all of time. The mysteries of providence, the hidden movements of God throughout history, and the forgotten and unnoted works of even the most obscure of God's people will be unveiled so that we can see how wise, loving, gracious, and powerful our God is. And though we will experience perfection in heaven, we will never be omniscient, which means we will always be learning more about God's glory, inspiring us to return joyful praise and thanksgiving. If your vision of heaven has been limited to clouds and harps and angels, it's time to expand that view with the truth found in this biblically based look at the afterlife.

  • Publisher : Baker Books
  • Release : 2012-11-01

  • Pages : 264 pages

Download or read book The Mystery of God written by Steven D. Boyer and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2012-11-01 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can I know God if he is incomprehensible? Is it possible to know God in a way that takes seriously the fact that he is beyond knowledge? Steven Boyer and Christopher Hall argue that the "mystery of God" has a rightful place in theological discourse. They contend that considering divine incomprehensibility invites reverence and humility in our thinking and living as Christians and clarifies a variety of theological topics. The authors begin by investigating the biblical, historical, and practical foundations for understanding the mystery of God. They then spell out its implications for theological issues and practices such as the incarnation, salvation, and prayer, rooting knowledge of God in a concrete life of faith. Evangelical yet ecumenical, this book will appeal to theology students, pastors, church leaders, and all who want intellectual and practical guidance for knowing the unknowable God.

Book Hidden Treasures in the Book of Job Reasons to Believe

Download or read book Hidden Treasures in the Book of Job Reasons to Believe written by Hugh Ross and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2011-10-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arguably the oldest book in the Bible, the book of Job has a surprising amount to say about some of the newest scientific discoveries and controversies. Far from a book that is just about suffering, Job is filled with rich insight into both ancient and modern questions about the formation of the world the difference between animals and humans cosmology dinosaurs and the fossil record how to care for creation and more With careful consideration and exegesis, internationally known astrophysicist and Christian apologist Hugh Ross adds yet another compelling argument to the case for the veracity of the biblical commentary on the history of the universe, Earth, life, and humanity. Hidden Treasures in the Book of Job shows that the Bible is an accurate predictor of scientific discoveries and a trustworthy source of scientific information, and that both the book of Scripture and the book of nature are consistent both internally and externally.

Download or read book Walking In Wisdom written by Lala Vanclief and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-07-10 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul had never been to Colossae, but he'd heard from a good friend that the church in that city was blossoming in faith and love. They'd been rooted in Christ-but young churches had been misled before. Paul desperately wants to encourage the church and head off any persuasive arguments from false teachers, so he writes them a letter. The brief book of Colossians is all about who we are in Christ. This volume is a verse-by-verse study of the Book of Colossians. Expositors have differing views on the relative importance of the letters of St. Paul. Many do not consider the letter to the Colossians to rank high in that echelon. I beg to disagree. I do not believe that there is more urgent and important writing in the Bible than the book of Colossians. It does not deal with the fundamentals of justification and the simple layout of the bases for the faith as Romans does. And it does not build the masterful case for the sanctification that Christ has provided by the Cross as the book of Hebrews does. In that regard, I do not say that Colossians are more important than Romans and Hebrews. Even so, the subject taken up by Colossians and how it impacts the modern church and the problems that we face in the Age of Reason ranks it as a book of unexcelled urgency in my view. Colossians teaches us plainly that outside of Christ there is no wisdom and understanding that has any merit, either for the present or the future. It firmly establishes the truth that Christ, the Triune God in bodily form, created all things and that all things consist in Him. All wisdom and knowledge that has any merit are in Christ. This means positively everything. The Church cannot stop the world from blaspheming God and coming up with evil theories of origins, and we should not try. What Colossians is teaching us is that for the Christian and the Church of the living God it is important to understand that all truth in existence, not only in this universe but in heaven, comes from Christ. It takes us back to the Garden of Eden and underscores the dreadful mistake that was made by our ancient mother Eve. Truth is not the result of science, reason, philosophy, experience, religion, or any other humanistic endeavor. Truth comes and only comes by revelation from God. In that revelation, all wisdom and knowledge that is valid are comprehending. I believe that this great book is much needed in the church of our time. We pray to God that He will assist us in being able, through the power and wisdom of the Holy Ghost, to lay this truth out in our expositions as clearly as God has shown it to us and our meditations.

Book excerpt: How did the apostle John know that, two thousand years after he lived, your life would need a fresh touch from God? How did John know that, at the beginning of a new millennium, our lives would be so busy, our focus so divided, our bodies so tired, our minds so bombarded, our families so attacked, our relationships so strained, our churches so programmed . . . that we would be desperate for the simplicity and the purity, the freedom and the fulfillment of a life lived in Jesus’ name?
