Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Edith Endsley joined the Army Nurse Corps in 1943 during World War II at the age of twenty-one and was assigned to the navy hospital ship USS Mercy. In the course of duty in the Pacific Theater of Operations she, two other nurses, and a Catholic priest were sent ashore on a small Japanese island to tend to American and Japanese wounded at the request of a high-ranking Japanese officer. This proved to be a ruse. The priest was killed and the three nurses were told to go to a geisha house where they were stripped, drugged, and massaged by three geishas. When Edith woke up she had reason to believe that she had been raped but there was no evidence. Upon discharge from the service Edie returned home to small-town Missouri with a severe case of androphobia, an intense fear of men. Aboard ship Edith met a young ensign who promised to look her up after the war. He did but Edith decided to become a nun and a friendship between Ensign Danny and Elizabeth, Ediths younger sister, turned romantic and when Edith decided to leave the convent Danny and Elizabeth are in love.

Book Christianity Is Jewish

    Book Details:
  • Author : Edith Schaeffer
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2012-01-30
  • ISBN : 1610977750
  • Pages : 231 pages

Download or read book Christianity Is Jewish written by Edith Schaeffer and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-01-30 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Edith Schaeffer lovingly encourages Christians to embrace the Jewishness of their faith. When the early church repudiated its Jewish roots, the New Testament became disconnected from its Hebraic foundations in the Old Testament. Edith Schaeffer presents a most convincing case for an unbreakable continuity in the flow of history from Genesis to Revelation. Her book reveals the thread of redemption in its Jewish context and Christianity as a grafted vine rooted in Judaism. The reader will hardly be able to miss the conclusion that the Christian gospel built on the foundation of the prophets and of the apostles is entirely Jewish. We live in a time when Christians and Jews are confused about their true identity and mutual calling to each other. This book deserves a re-edition at a time of unrelenting persistence of anti-Semitism, when much of the world turns their backs on Israel and the Jews. The global community of nations risks abandoning its Judeo-Christian heritage. This book's simple message may be what is needed to open the eyes of the Church to what Christianity owes to the Jews: gratitude, love, and the knowledge of their Jewish Messiah as the true Passover Lamb.

Book The Young Pretenders

Book excerpt: "A children's book whose sophistication, humour and ironies are nowadays appreciated by both children (aged about 9-13) and adults. Babs lives most contentedly in a large house in the country with her grandmother, her nanny and her brother (their parents are in 'Inja'). Then their grandmother dies and they are sent to live in Kensington with their uncle and his wife. Having run wild in the country, spent hours with the gardener and had a great deal to do and to think about, suddenly they are abandoned in a world of artifice and convention and are expected to behave artificially and conventionally. Babs cannot, of course, stop playing, and the central theme of the book is that she has not learned how to dissemble (as opposed to playing 'let's pretend') but must learn how to do so"--Publisher's website.
