More recently, her husband made a fortune selling his tech business, and their adored son has been accepted to Princeton. Yet sometimes the middle-class small-town girl in Nina wonders if she’s strayed from the person she once was. Tom Volpe is a single dad working multiple jobs while struggling to raise his headstrong daughter, Lyla. His road has been lonely, long, and hard, but he finally starts to relax after Lyla earns a scholarship to Windsor Academy, Nashville’s most prestigious private school. Amid so much wealth and privilege, Lyla doesn’t always fit in—and her overprotective father doesn’t help—but in most ways, she’s a typical teenaged girl, happy and thriving. Then, one photograph, snapped in a drunken moment at a party, changes everything. As the image spreads like wildfire, the Windsor community is instantly polarized, buzzing with controversy and assigning blame. At the heart of the lies and scandal, Tom, Nina, and Lyla are forced together—all questioning their closest relationships, asking themselves who they really are, and searching for the courage to live a life of true meaning. Book All I Ever Wanted

Download or read book All I Ever Wanted written by Kathy Valentine and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2020-03-31 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Runner-up, Carr P. Collins Award for Best Book of Non-Fiction, 2021 Go-Go’s bassist Kathy Valentine’s story is a roller coaster of sex, drugs, and of course, music; it’s also a story of what it takes to find success and find yourself, even when it all comes crashing down. At twenty-one, Kathy Valentine was at the Whisky in Los Angeles when she met a guitarist from a fledgling band called the Go-Go’s—and the band needed a bassist. The Go-Go’s became the first multi-platinum-selling, all-female band to play instruments themselves, write their own songs, and have a number one album. Their debut, Beauty and the Beat, spent six weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 and featured the hit songs “We Got the Beat” and “Our Lips Are Sealed.” The record's success brought the pressures of a relentless workload and schedule culminating in a wild, hazy, substance-fueled tour that took the band from the club circuit to arenas, where fans, promoters, and crew were more than ready to keep the party going. For Valentine, the band's success was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream—but it’s only part of her story. All I Ever Wanted traces the path that took her from her childhood in Texas—where she all but raised herself—to the height of rock n’ roll stardom, devastation after the collapse of the band that had come to define her, and the quest to regain her sense of self after its end. Valentine also speaks candidly about the lasting effects of parental betrayal, abortion, rape, and her struggles with drugs and alcohol—and the music that saved her every step of the way. Populated with vivid portraits of Valentine’s interactions during the 1980s with musicians and actors from the Police and Rod Stewart to John Belushi and Rob Lowe, All I Ever Wanted is a deeply personal reflection on a life spent in music.

Her mind won’t let her recall the events of that night; the past is in the past…until the first Final Girl is found dead in her bathtub and the second Final Girl appears on Quincy's doorstep. Blowing through Quincy's life like a hurricane, Sam seems intent on making her relive the trauma of her ordeal. When disturbing details about Lisa's death emerge, Quincy desperately tries to unravel Sam's truths from her lies while evading both the police and bloodthirsty reporters. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Back in the Day 2: The College Years With the little strength he had, Thomas told us he wanted to go camping one last time. "Consider this my dying wish and honor it, please?" Later that night Thomas began to use the bucket more frequently than he had been. He said he had one last thing he wanted. He told Chris he wanted to sit on his lap and have Chris sing his favorite song to him. They looked into each other's eyes as Chris started to sing "I see trees of green, red roses too". We all knew what that song was. When Chris got to the part that says "They're really sayin' I love you", Thomas forced out the words to Chris. "I love you" and with that Thomas closed his eyes and drew his last breath. Thomas got everything he wanted in his final days and hours. We could see Chris just sitting there rocking Thomas' lifeless body. Reviews for Back in the Day: Anthony Larson Phoenix, AZ It is rare that a book speaks to me in the way this book did. It has been a long time since I was so taken by a book that i had to literally force myself to put it down in order to do things like sleep and eat. I had only gotten as far as the second paragraph when I first had the thought that this could just as well be my story. As it turns out I would have that thought more times than I could count. I am by no means easily moved to tears by something I am reading; however, this book moved me to tears a number of times. If only every teenager who sees his or her self as being "different" in any way could have parents like John and Sara Kendall this world would be a much better place. Jeff Milyard Arizona The excerpt from your book strikes home as a dear friend was beaten by both his mother and father after discovering a love letter from his boyfriend. While I tried to ease his pain that incident placed fear in my heart and I never did come out.
